10/10/12 Willamette Week - WW Endorsement Video: If Pot is Legal, Will More Kids Smoke?
Washington D.C. - The NORML Women’s Alliance is proud to stand with a bipartisan, multi-interest coalition of organizations including the NAACP and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW), and announce its official endorsement of Oregon’s Ballot Measure 80, known as the Oregon Cannabis Tax Act (OCTA), which is to be voted on in the November 2012 elections.
The passage of Measure 80 would legalize and tax the use of marijuana for adults 21 and older, as well as set up a regulated retail distribution system. The measure would also restore industrial hemp for Oregon farmers that would help stimulate a weak economy, create more employment opportunities and develop new agricultural and environmentally friendly resources.
“A regulated system will eliminate the black market and create the jobs that our state so desperately needs,” says Anna Diaz, NORML Women’s Alliance Executive Committee member and Coalition Coordinator for the OCTA campaign.
We believe that marijuana legalization will help protect our children, keep our communities safe and put Americans back to work. Oregon’s Measure 80 is an excellent opportunity to move us closer to our goal; establishing legally regulated and taxed marijuana policies nationwide. It is for these reasons that we strongly encourage all Oregon residents to vote “Yes” on November 6th, for Ballot Measure 80.
