Senate To Decide House-Backed Marijuana Decrim Bill This Week

Last Chance to Urge Your State Senator to Support HB 1526!

Senators will vote on Wednesday, May 2, regarding House Bill 1526. If you have not already done so, today is your final opportunity to write or call your state Senator and urge them to vote 'yes' on this important piece of legislation.

In March, House lawmakers narrowly passed HB 1526, which amends penalties for possession of marijuana (up to one-half ounce) from a criminal misdemeanor punishable (by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine) to a civil infraction, punishable by a maximum fine of $250 and no criminal record.

However, Senate lawmakers have so far opposed this measure, with a Senate committee recently recommending the full Senate to kill the bill.

The issue of decriminalizing cannabis in New Hampshire will remain a prominent political issue, even if the measure is ultimately defeated this year. Therefore, it remains pivotal that lawmakers hear directly from their constituents that this is an issue they care about and support. Please take a moment today to contact your state senator and urge him or her to support H.B. 1526. For your convenience, a pre-written letter will be e-mailed to your state representative when you visit NORML's Take Action Center here:
