Four Prohibition Pragmatists And A Drug War Whore

A quick review from this week’s avalanche of cannabis-related news, comes a stark contrast that reveals: Four Prohibition Pragmatists And A Drug War Whore
Prohibition Pragmaticism
Wisconsin – When asked by the media about a recently introduced medical cannabis bill in his state, as well as to comment on the Obama administration’s new policies on medical cannabis, Governor Jim Doyle said he has no problem with the use of cannabis to treat severe pain and other medical conditions by way of a physician’s recommendation, and that restricting the use of medical cannabis makes no sense when doctors can already prescribe more dangerous drugs like morphine.
British ColumbiaStephen Gamble, president of the Fire Chiefs’ Association of B.C., recently came out in favor of fire department inspections of the home gardens of federal medical cannabis patients and caregivers in BC, to make sure the cannabis grow operations are safe, and not creating fire hazards. However, numerous medical cannabis patients and advocates in B.C. have spoken out against the proposal citing special federal privacy protections for medical patients.
Washington, D.C. – The Transportation and Security Administration (TSA), in numerous media reports, acknowledged another major departure from prior administrations regarding federal medical cannabis policies: State-compliant medical cannabis patients may not be harassed or arrested for their medical cannabis whilst traveling in federally-controlled airports.
Oakland NLC member Robert Raich, for years, has been pursuing the TSA to allow medical cannabis patients flying out of Oakland International Airport to lawfully possess their medicine in compliance with TSA rules, which are to concentrate on terrorism and public safety concerns, (i.e., weapons, explosives, knives, etc…), and that pilots and the airline crew are not liable for the presence of lawfully possessed medical cannabis.
New Hampshire – New Hampshire’s new US attorney, John Kacavas, told the media that he will not prosecute medical cannabis patients. [The new policy from Obama]…”is saying in a smarter battle against drugs, people who use it to improve their appetite, people who use it to alleviate their pain probably ought not to be prosecuted federally.”
Then…The Drug War Whoring
Washington, D.C. – In one of the grossest, most gratuitous, desperate attempts to get media attention I’ve ever seen (which says a lot…), former public relations flack for the infamous House Select Narcotics Committee (sui generis of many bad, failed and constitutional-warping anti-drug legislation of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Thankfully this congressional committee no longer exists, and these days the once leaders of the group, like powerful New York democrat Charlie Rangel, now support decriminalizing cannabis) and former drug czar Barry McCaffrey’s in-house anti-pot propagandist Bob Weiner employs PRNewswire to hump his absurd press release attacking President Obama’s and Attorney General Eric Holder’s clarification of their ‘hands off’ policies regarding the use of federal law enforcement in states with medical cannabis laws (and presumably in states without state protections for medical cannabis patients).

In a country where approximately 75% of the population support medical access to cannabis, one has to wonder what is wrong with people like Bob Weiner. What does he not get? Or, is the only source for his revenue and self-being these days–almost eight years after taxpayers stopped funding his anti-cannabis propaganda when Weiner, a Democratic political appointee, lost his job when the Bushies took over in 2000–is to whore himself out to the media and anti-drug groups as some kind of anti-cannabis zealot, one that mocks science with his ignorance and drips contempt for the compassion that others seem to possess.
Weiner, a self-proclaimed expert on cannabis, does not seem to understand that 1) cannabis is not prescribed anywhere in the US, 2) the DOJ memo only impacts federal, not state attorneys, 3) Weiner claims, relying on unnamed law enforcement agents, that 9 out of 10 medical cannabis patients are frauds, citizens ‘faking’ a medical need ‘just to get high’, 4) Weiner oddly compares a non-toxic and therapeutic substance like cannabis to laetrile, therein invoking the late Senator Kennedy to supposedly prove the “false hope” of medical cannabis, when, in fact, Senator Kennedy supported both patient access to medical cannabis and active cannabis medical research at the University of Massachusetts @ Amherst, and 5) Weiner whines that politics, not science is the controlling factor; feigns there is a dearth of science regarding cannabis (when there are over 17,500 studies relating to cannabis and/or cannabinoids).

Watch Weiner and the so-called war on drugs get rightly ridiculed by Penn and Teller…or the entire episode here.
Feast your eyes on Weiner’s Wednesday PRNewswire release to see what a real drug war whore looks like seeking the media and public spotlight:

Medical Marijuana: ‘Be Careful,’ ‘Ex-White House Drug Spokesman Bob Weiner Tells DOJ About ‘New Lax Enforcement’ Policy; ‘Use May Explode in Healthy People’
WASHINGTON, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — “Be careful about the new lax enforcement policy for medical marijuana,” former White House Drug Policy Spokesman Bob Weiner is telling the Department of Justice and the Obama Administration.
“You may get way more than you bargained for”, Weiner cautions of the new policy barring states attorneys from busting and prosecuting users and caregivers of so-called “medical” marijuana who act “in accordance with state law.”
“Prescription marijuana use may explode for healthy people.”
Unfortunately, as many as 90% of purchases at clinical distribution centers are “false defenses”, some law enforcement agents report – “which means individuals are not really sick but simply want the pot,” Weiner asserts.
“Medical marijuana is not as effective as other healing mechanisms for many illnesses such as glaucoma, pain, or nausea that users try it for because of false hype leading to false hope. Just as laetrile was legalized in the 1970’s in 27 states to cure cancer but was found to be useless apricot pits, leading Senator Kennedy in a Senate hearing to decry the ‘false hope’ delaying true treatment, ‘medical’ marijuana today could be a placebo delaying far better treatments,” according to Weiner.
“Many medical marijuana advocates press its use for pain killing and appetite enhancement,” Weiner asserted, “but you might feel just as good after a shot of gin. Science, not politics, must drive what is determined to be safe and effective medicine in America. The medical marijuana advocates never mention the potentially better applications of THC in marijuana from suppositories, jells, aerosols, or the already approved pill Marinol — they just want the high from the smoked version.
“There is a real danger that if marijuana is made essentially a prescription drug, its abuse and usage explosion could parallel other prescription drugs over the last decade, such as OxyContin, which have tripled nationally and quintupled in many locations because of the ease of availability.”
“No one wants to deny a dying cancer patient a hit of grass, if that’s what he or she wants. But to announce and implement a policy of broad-brush non-enforcement when there is so much loose about usage of medical marijuana and its distribution is a dangerous policy.”
“The new policy, a three-page DOJ memo anyone can download, does not only say leave the users alone. It also says leave the ‘caregivers’ alone if they comply with state law. The distribution centers, which are suppliers, and the staff could well be considered ‘caregivers’. DOJ would have serious problems discerning between illicit dealers and distributors.”
Weiner served as White House Drug Policy Office spokesman for 6-1/2 years and communications director of the House Select Narcotics Committee for five years.

  1. This is disgusting. Placebo my ass. These are proven scientifically to help with glaucoma as well as every other ailment mentioned. Saying it’s a placebo is POPPYCOCK. I’m sure that medicine probably works better if you think it’s helping, but that’s as far as it goes with this. Denying decades of scientific research is complete B.S.

  2. “Many medical marijuana advocates press its use for pain killing and appetite enhancement,” Weiner asserted, “but you might feel just as good after a shot of gin. Hmmmm….Does this mean Weiner is an expert on the effects of alcohol? Only a drunken hypocrite who profits from marijuana prohibition would make such an idiotic statement.

  3. What is going on here?!?!? If these people feel so strongly about drug use getting out of control then why aren`t they speaking out against alcohol and pharma? Because they work for alcohol and pharma. We are all in a cloud of propaganda that puts money in the pockets of drug lords, alcohol companies, pharmaceutical companies, government, law enforcement, media and puppets like weiner-boy. It`s endless. Take away their alcohol, pills and money and what do you have? A system based on common sense, not on profits for puppets of these evil industries. Make your choice. The time for this greed is over. Sober or free? No more hypocrites trying to keep industries in place that destroy lives of people that grow plants. This puppet show has been going on for 70 years. Enough is enough. Sober or Free!!! What are we America?

  4. “but you might feel just as good after a shot of gin.”
THIS is what is wrong with the majority of congress and lawmakers. Not everyone has a liver that takes well to gin and high concentration alcoholic beverages; hence the effects you feel of a hangover. Alcohol is a toxin that 99 out of 100 users use to get a buzz rather than health reasons. You are much less aware of surrounding and more likely to be loud and disorderly and non-complying with public manner/ laws with alcohol. Think before you make statements and know your opinion is not the majority’s opinion, Mr. Weiner.
Also, as far as the “placebo” distracting doctors against giving better treatment argument goes; marijuana is much less likely to have malicious reactions with other medications than alcohol, which in many cases is used regardless of the warnings on almost every prescription bottle there is saying not to consume alcohol while using the medication.
It’s time for a change. Don’t be a follower simply because YOU don’t smoke marijuana and support the prohibition, the benefits of re-legalization would be phenomenal and highly noticeable. Go Green!!!

  5. I agree with ‘spiral of failure’ statement. Thats an expression i will use if i ever confront a police officer again here in South Carolina for proving that convicting passive marijuana users does nothing to benefit society.

  6. I am so sick of this crap. If you want to get rid of the perception of medical users/growers using/selling marijuana in non-legal ways, we MUST LEGALIZE IT! WTF are these morons so afraid of? That people who use illegally will be able to use legally? The only reason I can find for maintaining the illegal status of marijuana is the elimination of shadow sources of income for federal and state agencies. The CIA is a semi-privately funded organization. We know from Viet Nam and Iran Contra that they get some of their funds from illicit sources. I believe that the only reason drugs remain illegal, is because they have no other means to afford spying on all of us.

  7. Ok…Why isn’t Cannabis legal already!
If most people in this country knows prohibition is BS, WHY IS IT STILL ILLEGAL?

  8. These drug junkeis should be drinking alcohol like a TRUE AMERICAN CITIZEN to relieve pain and suffering associated with many diseases (LOL SMOKING MARAJUNA IS LIKE SHOOTING UP HEROIN)#!*#!*#*!# USING MARIJUANA IS UN-AMERICAN AND COMMUNIST AND UNNEFECTIVE. I know this because I have proof, no really I do. I promise…. it’s in my car let me go it real quick….
    —————-
For anyone that doesn’t understand, all of the above is sarcasm and a typical point of view of a prohibitionist. The only logical reasoning behind the illegality and the status of the current federal law behind marijuana (class 1) is to help protect status quo high up government jobs in the DEA and other law enforcement agency.
If our government can lie about this just to give some people some decent jobs, just imagine what else we’re being lied about to. It sickens me that most people think our government is “for the people”.

  9. “Medical marijuana is not as effective as other healing mechanisms for many illnesses such as glaucoma, pain, or nausea that users try it for because of false hype leading to false hope. Just as laetrile was legalized in the 1970’s in 27 states to cure cancer but was found to be useless apricot pits, leading Senator Kennedy in a Senate hearing to decry the ‘false hope’ delaying true treatment, ‘medical’ marijuana today could be a placebo delaying far better treatments,” according to Weiner.
kiling cancer cells as well as pain is FALSE HOPE?! how do they know? have they tried some to treat their aliments? no placebo can CURE cancer.
I can’t believe that people like Weiner can get away with such lies…
all because far too many companies would lose money if pot was legal. it all boils down to money, dirty money. it doesn’t matter how many lives marijuana could save if it means drug companies would lose profits. truly sickening.

  10. I am happy to see at least some bit of news from Wisconsin, i have Asperger’s syndrome and it would definitely help out my concentration.

  11. Whore? That’s a little harsh. I understand the ire for the man but a whore? Ease up.
[Editor’s note: BTW, Weiner is the same guy who claimed at the ONDCP that cannabis “is the new date rape drug”. Cannabis as a date rape drug?
He is a media whore who will say anything to get attention. Think about, to get into the media he is literally having to scale the bodies of sick and dying patients…if he is not a whore, then he is one sick puppy.]

  12. I JUST CALLED BOB WEINER AND HE HUNG UP ON ME
He just stated that he’s for marijuana studies that have been peer reviewed (but when I told him there were studies that are peer reviewed- in fact, they ALL have to be peer reviewed to be published- he would not recognize them because they were not GOV apporoved)
CALL HIM!!!! LIGHT HIS FUCKING PHONE UP! I BOXED HIM IN, I KNOW EVERYONE HERE CAN TOO!!!!!!!

  13. By the way- my initial question was for him to name the L.E. agencies that gave him that information about the 9 out of 10 “frauds”
Needless to say no one was mentioned.

  14. Contact: Bob Weiner/Rebecca Vander Linde 301-283-0821/202-306-1200
CALL HIM!!!! He holds an impossible to defend position that can easily be destroyed!!! Come on people, put Weiner in his place!

  15. And he called me “Craig”. Whats HE smokin’?
Fucking tool. I’m so pissed at people who say their piece but don’t defend it. We can break him.

  16. “Weiner”
    How appropriate.
[Editor’s note: Check out the award-winning episode of Penn & Teller’s B*llshit that looked at the so-called war on some drugs…where they have plenty of fun with Weiner, including how apropos his name is.]

  17. As I have read these posts and many many in the last year or so, the reason for cannabis still being iilegal is easy to see.
    1) Corruption,greed.
    2) Control
When cannabis is re-legalized, I think we will see an unraveling of this corrupt government in many areas. Once its legal, there will be no way to harrass and arrest people, no way to control. Shrinking government should be pushed, federal & state . Local communities should take care of there own problems. Pushing federal gov out of our lives and wallets is the only way this country is going to become that shining becon to the world once again. After all, it was the government that caused this economic collapse.A collapse that was a domino effect all over the world. Was it the plan? What else are they responsible for?
If you think big government or socialism is the answer, you need your head checked.
End prohibition , end government corruption.

  18. (#5 Kito Buono Says:
    October 25th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
I agree with ’spiral of failure’ statement. )
I too agree and will be using this ‘spiral of failure’staement from now on. It is so true.
Many of us have been saying for very long time that its not helping anyone or this country to be constantly arresting and ruining peoples lives over cannabis. Its completely backward thinking.
Government better start listening and doing as the people will gov to do. No more lies, no more corruption.
    Its over!
As I watched this video, I got the feeling I was watching history being made.

  19. Recently Congressman Rangel stated, “I don’t remember the last time there was a marijuana arrest in New York City.” However that seems really odd seeing as how there’s been more than 430,000 arrest for possession of small amounts of marijuana since 1997 in NYC. 2000 resulted in over 50,000 of these arrests, and 2008 resulted in over 40,000 arrests. This is also Kind of odd because these arrests were for the possession of small amounts, less than 1 ounce, which has been decriminalized in the state of New York since 1977 with the passage of the marijuana reform act. One can be given a ticket, and fined $100 for posession of marijuana, but not fingerprinted and jailed. New York State has formally and legally decriminalized possession of marijuana.
You can view full details of the arrest reports at http://dragon.soc.qc.cuny.edu/Staff/levine/NYC-MARIJUANA-ARREST-CRUSADE-CONTINUES-SEPT-2009.pdf

  20. Did you know that Weiner is a German word???
It denotes a person who cries. Very appropriate in his case.

  21. We can fight back from their lies and propaganda with science, facts, and education. If you need a good resource for informational videos to share with others who don’t yet know the truth, have them check out CannabisTV.org

  22. Comparing a shot of gin to medical cannabis? Apparently, we might have a better chance controlling appetite or nausea from chemo or pain with a shot of gin? Ohhhhh…. dont forget the usual scare tactic… If medical cannabis is accepted in all 50 states, abuse will sky rocket just like with the opiate in PILL form Oxycontin… oh i forgot medical cannabis is SAFE unlike Oxycontin you f’ing tard. Go get your damn stock options in the big pharma companies you own …. Thats obviously all this guy cares about.. Please leave medical cannabis users alone. It amazes me that doctors are ABLE to prescripe MORPHINE or other much more harmful opiates when MEDICAL cannabis remains illegal. And the drug warriors keep on fighting … You know the agenda…

  23. As far as the media whore, Bob Weiner, I will let him stand for what he is. On the other hand, this is a serious victory for not only Medical Marijuana patients and their caregivers, but for States’ rights as well.
    Let the revolution continue…
    YES WE CANNABIS!

  24. Does anyone really believe that a physician’s release to use “medical marijuana” is anything less than a license to get high? Seriously? So what if people with serious illnesses are using marijuana. Sick people like to get high too. Some of them (all of them?) were probably getting high before they ever got sick. This guy Weiner really is confused, but he wrestles with the issue on arguments run by the “medical marijuana” advocates. The thing that they are both afraid is legalization. With legalization or even decriminalization, the “medical marijuana” dispensaries and their black market prices go away and so does the historical contributions of clods like Bob Wiener.

  25. *Media* whore. I can c that. Penn & Teller. Seems like they understand where we’re coming from but he looked pissed about it. Can’t say that I really care what Penn & Teller have to say on this matter since they’ve never actually experienced any substances, ever! :] Don’t know if I believe that one. Anyway, that vid coming from one guy who never says anything and another guy who talks enough for them both. It’s always a good thing to put on a great show and these two know how to do that. Must be slow in Vegas?

  26. Once a fuckin idiot will always be a fuckin idiot. When Dr. Frankenstein created him, he must of forgotten to give to give Bob a brain. If we ever had a night of the living outbreak and the zombies cracked open his skull, they will not find no white or gray matter but a big blob a shit that resembles a brain. My sympathy goes with zombies. Another pawn of MARIJUANA PROHIBITION, but there is one thing good you can say about Bob, he has shit for brains. 420 ALL THE WAY!

  27. People, People can you see the good here? We are winning, we have, we have always had the truth on our side. The government based it’s belief on lies and now a light has shown them for the Constructive Fraud they are. Remmeber as you push this issue forward that we are in the right, we are asking for this government to respect our individual rights and those of our states. We will regain what was our in the first place.
We must presure them with our open communication and education of Jury Nullification. That if our branches of government can not properly use check and balance to keep government respectful of the people then will use the people’s branch and nullify their cannabis laws and there is not a dam thing the waywafrd government can do about it.
We can add to the presure by planting our seeds in every government building planter, every divided highway from Canada to Mexico and from sea to shining sea. Plant your seeds in every fore closed home, ally and mainstreet USA, everywhere where a mower can’t go, drainage systems at shopping malls are great. Do Not plant your seeds in our Nation Parks and such. The idea of planting the seeds is to show the powers to be that 40 million people throwing seeds can cover this Nation and will continue to do so until governemnt gives back what it had no right to take.
Please pat yourselves on the back, pat your fellow grower’s back too, but then press on and don’t let up until we take back our right to cannabis for health or just to use to prusue our happiness as described in the constition.

  28. Weiner hell. This is DR. Richard Noggin, aka “DICKHEAD”. His head is so far up McCaffery’s ASS, when he finds time to pull it out, he has peanut shells for earrings, and corn eyeballs. Smells like a TURD to me!!!

  29. he says you can get the same effects from a shot of gin…
    A. NO….
    B. what about the side effects of alcohol? for my nerve condition I cant have it, its pretty toxic to my health..not including regular damage….
    C. Vaporizor plus Marijuana minus alcohol equals no health risks, and no pain, no nausea….
    D. yes I will agree FAR too many use medicinal marijuana as a cover to buy marijuana…Im not saying it shouldnt be legal, but as someone who is beyond legitimate…it does bother me a bit, but I dont see that number rising if medical pot is legalized.

  30. Weiner is a know nothing mouthy punk. He bloviates about emergency rooms being overrun with the medical fallout of drug use. Why does he not differentiate between mariuana and other drugs? Could it be because he knows that most Americans do not support his bullshit? Kick this fuck (and the nonsense drug policy he supports) to the curb. Oh, right, he doesn’t have to run for office, he is appointed.

  31. weiner…. ah yes, the guy that goes on tv and has a visible anxiety problem… hey buddy, weed helps that!!! this guy doesnt give “facts”, he gives opinion…. people with common sense, and the internet, can easily tell he is pulling these “facts” out of his ass. I watched the Penn & Teller weed episode a couple nights ago and i thoroughly enjoyed the way they bashed Weiner Weiner Weiner!

  32. Alex: ‘too many ppl use medical as a cover for rec use? Piss of idiot. Are you so simple you dont seem to realize its OUR RIGHT to use mediacally and
recreationally. If cigs and booze are fine for rec use than pot should be too. Its people like you that wood hav pot restricted to med patients only…your type pisses me off…. AND FUCK WEINER AND THE HORSE HE RODE IN ON.

  33. Well, i just want to start by telling people that we need not preach to the choir on this issue. What we need to do is try to get Jack from the box and that snack cake Debbie to throw their money into legalization/ decriminalization because to them it could be pitched as a wise investment. think of how many times you have smoked and and ordered 15 double cheese burgers from a red headed clown.
We as the people of the US need to move toward total legalization. There will still be states that in this dark econimic time that will hold out on medical marijuana, because they haven’t figured out how to make any money other than taking it from people that smoke a little weed. The local L.E. let meth labs operate busting only people the buy because they have a problem. they all get prison time quickly. While they leave the lab in full operation. When the cooks are busted they all get probation and are allowed to be busted multiple times with active labs just to be relesed from prison most of the time befor the junkies they got hooked in the first place. Missouri in particular check out smaller town newspapers on line you will see for your self. these states will fight tooth and nail for their money. Stand togather and we may win the war!!!!!

  34. Sean,
Though you are technically correct, the law in NYC has a provision that you can be arrested if the marijuana is in use OR public view. So when the cop says to a guy just hand it over and its no big deal, right then its in public view, and he gets arrested. easiest collar in the world right? the whole thing is a freaking joke anyway. I live in NYC and id never toke in public, its just dumb, despite what rangel says, you WILL get arrested, i have friends that were.
    Peace
    Legalize, Tax, Regulate.

  35. No worries; It may take more time however; we “potheads, dope smokers, whatever they want to call us, will win this fight. The light is at the end of the bowl. ?
While all of the anti-marijuana prohibitionist go home hit the “Gin”, beat the wife, beat the kids, kick the dog, wake up the next morning absent minded to the damage they have caused!
We very mellow Mj consumers, go home hit the bong then the fridge, make love to our wives, play with the kids, walk the dog, wake up the next morning feeling great, and fight for our daily freedom.
“Ah yes, America is great” The real problem here, is the Assholes who run it. Man it would be great to see these assholes tell good ol’e George W. he cannot grow Hemp.
Hang in there Brothers & Sisters, “we will prevail”.

  36. More smoke and mirrors,no doubt his bank account would show an increase now that someone is paying him to be that stupid. Surely no one that has the intelligence too tie his shoes and read can have missed the three times since 1972 that medical “doctors” and Research “scientists” recommended too congress that marijuana be studied as a therapeutic medicine? Our tax dollars paid for the investigations, and our elected officials ignored them, and still do.

  37. When will such ignorance and lies as this man (Weiner) is spouting be subjected to national exposure and ridicule? How quickly would anything ‘scientifically’ negating marijuana as a medicine or safer than alcohol be on every channel? On the other hand, with all the studies that show marijuana’s potential as both of the aforementioned, how often have you seen them showcased via the MSM?

  38. weiner, heheh 🙂 yes, this uninformed putz is absolutely a media whore who propagates fear and lies. in regards to the potential for healthy patients abuse medical marijuana, clearly he doesn’t recognize the current prescription drug abuse occuring right now. it shouldn’t matter either way. if an individual chooses to use drugs of any kind for any purpose that doesn’t cause harm to another, they should have the freedom to do so.
@A: according to your logic, if someone has never taken any illicit drug, they have no right to support or fight for the cause? that’s like saying heterosexuals have no business advocating for gay rights, whites shouldn’t have helped slaves, aryans were wrong by hiding jews, the wealthy shouldn’t donate time, money, or services to the impoverished, humans can’t effectively stand up for animals, and americans should stop providing aid to victims of rape, genocide, poverty, and exploitation in third world nations.

  39. Stompedonmyrights makes a great point. these fuckers see the positive changes that are happening and are scared. the more scared they become, the more they will try to increase the spread of their nonsense.

  40. Actually Weiner got it wrong, there will be less hospitalizations and less crime when it’s Legal.
Not to mention a happier public.
