Cannabis Is “An Effective Treatment” For Cancer Patients, Israeli Study Concludes

Some two-thirds of Israeli cancer patients authorized to use cannabis report long-term, symptomatic improvement from the plant, according to clinical data presented in late January at a conference of the Israeli Oncologists Union and reported this week in several international media outlets.

Investigators at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv, in conjunction with the Israeli Cancer Association, assessed the efficacy of cannabis therapy over the course of one year in 264 patients with cancer. Israeli media reported the findings:

Some 61 percent of the respondents reported a significant improvement in their quality of life as a result of the medical marijuana, while 56 percent noted an improvement in their ability to manage pain. In general, 67 percent were in favor of the treatment, while 65 percent said they would recommend it to other patients.”

The study concluded that cannabis is an “effective” treatment for certain symptoms of the disease cancer and recommended, “The treatment should be offered to the patients in earlier stages of cancer.”

In the trial, the most common types of cancer for which medical marijuana was authorized was lung cancer (21 percent ), breast cancer (12 percent ) and pancreatic cancer (10 percent ).

The study focused primarily on the use of cannabis to relieve various symptoms of cancer or cancer treatment, such as pain and nausea, but did not evaluate whether marijuana therapy could potentially suppress the proliferation of the disease. In preclinical trials, various cannabinoids – including THC and CBD (cannabidiol) – have been shown to selectively target and eliminate malignant cells and cancerous tumors.

To date, some 6,000 Israelis possess government authorization to use cannabis therapeutically. Patients authorized by the federal program may either cultivate cannabis at home or they may obtain marijuana from one of the nation’s 12 licensed cannabis farms.

Last summer, the Israeli Health Ministry formally acknowledged the therapeutic utility of cannabis and announced newly amended guidelines to more effectively govern the state-sponsored production and distribution of medical marijuana. The Ministry estimates that as many as 40,000 patients will eventually have access to medicinal cannabis once the Israeli program is fully implemented.

The facts are there Marijuana, Cannabis, Promote healthy well being in humans it is 100% Medicine. The War on Marijuana is a War against the people. 4. There are many medical publications that show cannabis can even reverse tumors. What a cruel thing to with hold this medicine. What insanity the whole so called drug war is!

  5. Maybe the republican candidates should hear about this. I mean if its good for God’s chosen people, then it must be good for the rest of mankind.

  6. It is apparent that the US has NO plans to ever have Cannabis as a legal substance-other than the medication that will be made from it-and tightly controlled.Sativex is being “approved”-right now- for Cancer pain-alleviating any doubt it will be “abused”..ADDICTIVE MY A*S-Coffee is more “addictive” than Cannabis.
At least I can go to Portugal or Israel to live-after Romney destroys, what’s left of, our country.

  7. Isreal is able to do these tests. Other countries inthe world can do these tests. But not America. People better start using their physical abilities before the USA takes that possibility out too. Start using ur heads America.

A great man once said “freedom is not given to anyone. It is won.”.

    People need to wake up.

  8. I am confused by the illegal nature of cannabis. A plant that causes no harm, is good for the body and soul, but remains a laughable discussion in American politics. The only understanding that I have come to is that – Marijuana is illegal because it is immoral, but it is immoral because it is illegal. Can anyone explain why this circular argument ( which is faulty) is still in play. I love this country and would like to see it restored to its former glory, but this can only be done by the people and the people are to stupid to change. They put their trust in politicians who lie, cheat, and steal their way into office. America, please wake up before it is too late and we have no freedoms.

  9. If we legalized marijuana we would not have to cut another tree down, just think what would it do to global warming.

  10. Obama needs to wake up and realize that “YOU CAN FOOL SOME PEOPLE SOMETIMES, BUT YOU CAN’T FOOL ALL THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME” -BOB MARLEY

  13. I first want to thank the ones who use filth words. It really shows how smart u are and make every one in here get pull down to your life style. Now keep in mine that with this pro cannabis report. U will not see any thing about this great report put on our new’s. And our government is making plan’s to hide this story from us American . And pleas no one put in links to other pro cannabis report

  14. Ye of so little faith. This is a great fight we advocates are in. We hold an undeniable truth. The facts regarding cannabis are more prevalent each passing day. We will have setbacks, dispensaries will close the Feds will hold their status quo. More studies will come out, the mainstream will carry the majority so long as we do not give up this fight.
Our country is great in part because when individuals unite for a common cause and will not be detoured, change is possible. Nay possible, inevitable.
It’s going to happen, oh yes it’s going to happen, but change like this requires generations. Another great thing about not only America but Americans, when we believe in something we don’t give up.
Now is not a time for pausing or giving up, we are so close I can smell it.
    And it smells so kind…

  16. Give me liberty or give me death…

I guess Israel is leaning towards liberty now, but America is sticking with death. After seeing Romney treat the Guy in the wheelchair like shit, I know for sure we have at least 4 more years of record arrests, convictions, property seizures, and suffering through illness. Enjoy your deaths cuz liberty died in 1937.

  17. When you add the cancer research to the already existing glaucoma benefits. Being a high blood pressure and anger control asset as well only further indicates how clueless our Govt. truly is

  18. I was a caregiver to my mother for two years, she had colon-rectal cancer and after two rounds of chemo first time , she also had Barretts esophagus, could not get the zofran pill even the quick dissolving pill it would make her throwup, and again she could not complete the chemo, the only remedy for her nausea was Cannabis. After getting diagnosed with terminal liver cancer she went back to chemo two rounds again and could not complete treatment, again Cannabis was the only thing that gave her relief when the zofran did not work and the vaporizer was her preference. Mom passed from a bad reaction to a blood transfusion however I had found a wonderful therapy http://www.1cure4cancer.com/www.cytopharma.com that she was responding beautifully to the amazement of her oncologist. We have a right to medical freedom and the choices we make to seek remedy but the corporate medical industry has decided to cookie cutter everyone with a collective mind to decide what is better for us, this is a disgrace on those who suffer and seek that which is neccessity.

  19. please you have the right to say bad words and i have the right not to hear bad words. i want legal marijuana. i have severe pain. but lets keep it clean guys and girls. GOD BLESS august

  20. Go to cannabisscience dot com for photographs in breaking news. We know it cures cancer. But, no! We can’t have it. Total BS because the government has special interest in hospitals and big Pharma. It would cut their profits 70% in the drugs, big machines and radiation. After seeing results people are PISSED and watching Voter Fraud take place, I feel something’s going down soon.

  21. Its no new news that medical marijuana helps the patients. I believe the government and society is looking at this as a “stoners way”. Listen, the pain pills are being prescribed recklessly, sometimes 300 at a time to users that had no need for them. I am not a pot smoker, nor do I have any need to medicinal marijuana, but I support it 100%. I am aware of the medical benefits. I am aware of the financial gain to states and county’s, and I am aware that some people are going to smoke pot weather they “need it” or not. The bottom line is, the people that need it should not suffer because of society’s view on the moralities of pot. The benefits out weigh the negatives. More and more states are becoming savvy to the positives of pot. The government will soon have to play a roll in this because by 2013 more than half the nation will have state laws legalizing medicinal marijuana.
