In a unanimous opinion, Justices on the California Supreme Court determined that the state’s “open container” law should not be applied so broadly as to pertain to situations where police find “any loose marijuana” in a motor vehicle.

NORML opposes excessive taxes on cannabis products because artificially high prices drive consumers away from the legal marketplace.
“We thank Governor Newsom for this much-needed support of social use by California’s cannabis consumers,” said California NORML’s Director.
Lawmakers advanced similar legislation last year, but the bill was vetoed by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
The first bill permits qualified patients to access certain cannabis products in hospitals; the second bill prohibits employers from inquiring about job applicants’ past use of cannabis.
“The budget bill is a helpful start, but much more needs to be done to make legal cannabis more readily accessible to consumers.”
All 47 of the randomly selected retailers denied the patrons entry for failing to show proof age.
The task force concluded, “A per se limit for drugs, other than ethanol, should not be enacted at this time as current scientific research does not support it.”
