The Court ruled that the legalization of medical cannabis largely eliminates “the ‘plain smell’ doctrine as applied to the possession or use of marijuana.”
Topic: Legislation
The new rules raise the amount of THC permissible in a single serving of an adult-use edible product from 5mg of THC to 10mg.
The legalization bill will now be transmitted to Gov. Ned Lamont, who is expected to sign the bill into law. Connecticut will be the fifth state to legislatively legalize the adult-use market this year.
The new law, which takes effect in October, established on-site “cannabis consumption lounges” for those ages 21 and older.
The Act repeals the long-standing federal prohibition of marijuana, thereby permitting states to set their own policies free from undue federal interference.
Legislation establishing cannabis cafes, amending the state’s traffic laws, and reducing penalties for minors now awaits action from Nevada’s Governor.
The new law also makes it easier for those with past marijuana convictions to petition the courts to have their records sealed.
“This law begins the process of providing Alabamans, for the first time, with a safe, legal, and consistent source of medicine.”
