The defeat marked a sudden about-face for Senate lawmakers, who had previously voted in favor of the bill’s passage.
“House Bill 829 introduces burdensome provisions that will likely hinder patients’ ability to access medical cannabis,” Lauren Bratcher, Deputy Director of Kentucky NORML said.
The exemption only applies to products designated ‘DOH (Department of Health) compliant.’
Historically, Gov. Youngkin has expressed little support for legislation liberalizing the state’s marijuana policies.
The measure awaits approval from the Governor, who is expected to sign it into law.
Lawmakers in both chambers are anticipated to revisit the issue when they reconvene in January.
