Marijuana Use Associated With a "Significantly Reduced Risk" of Head and Neck Cancers — Will The Mainstream Media Care?

For some 35 years the United States federal government has been well aware that cannabis possesses potent anti-cancer and anti-tumor properties. And for the past three years, government-funded researchers have speculated that these qualities may offer “protective” effects against the onset of various types of cancer in humans, including lung cancer.
Yet to date, virtually no investigators have taken the time to assess marijuana’s potential anti-cancer effects in humans — until now.
In a clinical abstract just published online on the Cancer Prevention Research website, a team of U.S. investigators report that marijuana use, even long-term, is associated with a “significantly reduced risk” of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

A Population-Based Case-Control Study of Marijuana Use and Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma
via nih.gov
Cannabinoids, constituents of marijuana smoke, have been recognized to have potential anti-tumor properties. However, the epidemiologic evidence addressing the relationship between marijuana use and the induction of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is inconsistent and conflicting. Cases (n = 434) were patients with incident HNSCC disease from nine medical facilities in the Greater Boston, MA area between December 1999 and December 2003. Controls (n = 547) were frequency matched to cases on age (+/-3 years), gender, and town of residence, randomly selected from Massachusetts town books.
… After adjusting for potential confounders (including smoking and alcohol drinking), 10 to 20 years of marijuana use was associated with a significantly reduced risk of HNSCC [odds ratio (OR)(10-<20 years versus never users), 0.38; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.22-0.67]. Among marijuana users moderate weekly use was associated with reduced risk (OR(0.5-<1.5 times versus <0.5 time), 0.52; 95% CI, 0.32-0.85). The magnitude of reduced risk was more pronounced for those who started use at an older age (OR(15-<20 years versus never users), 0.53; 95% CI, 0.30-0.95; OR(>/=20 years versus never users), 0.39; 95% CI, 0.17-0.90; P(trend) < 0.001).
Our study suggests that moderate marijuana use is associated with reduced risk of HNSCC.

I’ve said this before but it bears repeating. What possible advancements in the treatment of cancer could have been achieved over the past 35 years had U.S. government officials, or for that matter members of the mainstream media, chosen to advance — rather than to suppress — clinical research into the anti-cancer effects of cannabis? It’s a shame we have to speculate; it’s even more tragic that tens of thousands of families must needlessly suffer while we do.

  1. Our government is at it again with their propaganda machine to keep marijuana from being legal in th U.S.. We finance their research through our tax dollars and they play the cloak and dagger game with MARIJUANA PROHIBITION that is filling up our prisons for a plant that has been used by mankind for thousands of years. The injustice brought on by insane marijuana drug laws and draconian authority trying to enforce these laws. Like i said before, the government has their own underground research labs and this is the NEW AMERIKA OF BIG BROTHER TECHNOLOGY. Our taxes pay for it. It’s like BIG PHARM DRUGS, do you think that if they had a medicine to cure cancer and put it on the market they would go bankrupt. All the side effects are worse than the medical condition being teated. If one does’nt work we will give you another and the domino effect sets in. Just adding more problems to the main problem, and it just keeps going on and on like the energizer bunny, and were the victims of FDA on approved drugs for the masses. Yes i have cancer and it’s called MARIJUANA PROHIBITION and its side effects are just as bad as BIG PHARM DRUGS. Just put all the DEA (DEAD END ATROCITIES) people on a round trip rocket to Mars and by the time they get back marijuana will be legal and the oppression will end and sanity will be back in the system to a certain degree. 420 ALL THE WAY!

Why the hell should the American public listen to them?
They depend on the illegality of marijuana and
    other substances for their profession!

if he would perform one act of worship to him.
Cannabis is the most important and useful plant
on the face of the Earth. It benefits mankind in
thousands of ways. If a person has the knowledge
to recognize the cosmos as a thing not capable of
existence without a creator then they must also recognize
Satan as one who would promote cannabis as
“the devils weed” to spite Gods gift to mankind.”

    RE:
    musclecarfreak,
    – Since cannabis,
(as well as other plants which God made for us),
contain compounds ALSO present in, and necessary
for proper and OPTIMAL function of the human body,
    INTEGRAL to our bodies’ metabolic-processes / biochemistry…
…the War On Some Plants, especially cannabis, is
actually a form of making life-itself, illegal.
    – Granted, certain plants, plant-compounds can have
profound and dramatic effects upon an individual,
however, personal-responsibility, WISDOM, based upon truthful,
accurate information about those things which God has provided
us, rather than blanket-prohibition and government-mandated
extinction of Creation, ought to prevail, instead.
    – The government-imposed, immoral, illegal,
    unconstitutional, prohibition of cannabis,
(as well as other, all-natural, unadulterated-plants),
    is an un-Biblical
    religion of hate against marijuana.
    – I believe that Creator God,
(a being, vastly different, more complex than ourselves),
made ALL plants for our use,
(stated in Chapter One of the book of Genesis).
    – It’s for us to be wise caretakers of this provision,
not to let it fall into destruction through greed and fear.

  5. I just went through 36 invitations all to support animal rights. I love animals but cannot get serious about this topic. Until we quit destroying over one million of our children every year. Because they feel they have or should have freedom of choice. The right to choose a natural herbal sedative rather the main stream alcohol or chemical drugs given to them by the legal drug pushers, doctors.
These main stream drugs are bad for you and kill hundreds of thousands ever year. In fact if our legal drug pushers keep a closer watch, I feel they are the reason people commit suicide and kill people. It is well known the fowl chemical drugs cause some very serious long term side affects. In the history of the world cannabis has killed no one, addicted no one, caused anyone to act in a violent manner when used by itself and cannot kill you…
So save the help cats issues until we end the war on drugs and quit enslaving and destroying millions of our human children. Continuing to jail adults over freedom of choice. I will only support one issue ending the war on US (drugs)…
Please help when we stop the war on US I promise to try to make people treat animals better.

Has anyone seen this reported in the mainstream news?
For all the unconvinced doubting Thomases out there, the answer is still no.
Just so you know a bit more about that…
As definition of power elite, I do not mean all rich and/or powerful people, of course. Messrs. Soros and Lewis et al., whom I thank most graciously, can not be lumped into that category, so that is not to create tension in that regard. That being said, the reference about the power elite and their influence on de facto destruction and depopulation of undesirable areas is evidenced in the book by Gary Webb titled Dark Alliance. It’s about crack, the veep of the time, and Iran-Contra, and of course flooding mainly poor minority neighborhoods with the supply side economics of crack. Need I say more. Educate yourselves more, please.

By the way, don’t be surprised if the public option for universal health care coverage in the U.S. is stripped from the legislation, as the public option would undoubtedly in short time include coverage for cannabis as medicine. This administration has already halted the federal persecution/prosecution (raids) of medical marijuana in states where the MMJ folks are in compliance with state and local laws. Logically, the public option would open avenues of approaching the federal ban to change scheduling and move closer to legalization on the continuum from complete prohibition to regulated legalization.
I’m am waiting eagerly to see what happens with health care reform after the Congress returns from their recess.

After that i took down the only flag ive ever hung and went back to hatin the gov and havin an all around foolish feeling. Everyone says dont support the black market and let hoodlums reign. I say im glad ive never broke my underworld ties because the hoodlums that kill and steal live in office.

  8. Interesting arrest God and Jesus for an illegal plant or plants. Most all drugs today are synthetic clones of coca, opium and cannabis. Used in their natural state do not cause much problem. That is why they trow the most popular herb cannabis in the war. The popularity and common knowledge it is better for you that liquor or chemical drugs. It alone fuels the war on drugs. Providing Mexico with 70% or more of their drug income. Supporting the jail system no telling how many cops and DEA types. They love busting they pot people and destroying their lives..Atlanta just started a get tough on crime drive. On the local news they show them busting blacks in the ghetto selling dime bags. The war still does what is was designed to do provide the racist a way to enslave more of the people they hate…

  10. I know this is true. I had cancer. The doctors gave me bottles and bottles of addictive pain medication. High doses of it, it never took the pain away. Never. I would smoke a joint and the pain be gone for like 3 hours. When you have a mass tumor in your lower intestines, 3 hours is heaven. Well, i am cancer free now. And i contiue to smoke on a regular basis. However, DSS took my rights as a parent away because i popped for thc in my system. I am not aloud to be unsupervised with my babies, 5 and 6……. because i smoke frken pot!!!!! Obama needs to come up off it. This is just too much. Something that helps? Why make it illegal because of tax purposes, and regulations? that so stupid. People are dieing out there, and for just a moment, the pain goes away. This doesnt make sense……

  11. Some days I think this is a watered down version of hell. Where else would you have ‘Ice cream’ but not allowed to ‘Eat’ it?

  13. The fed has unreasonable restrictions on research into the curative properties of cannabis. I KNOW that there is a cure for cancer in the compounds found in the cannabis plant, as stated in #47 above. The only reason I can think of for these rediculous restrictions is that OVER 500,000 people DIE every year from cancer. Way to go POPULATION CONTROL. Think of it, since the “War on Drugs” started over 30yrs ago there are 15,000,000 less people in the US because of cancer. Mass Murder? Sounds like it to me.

It will start when We the People make an impact on government with our “PHYSICAL PRESENCE.” It will start when all the “congressional clunkers” tell the President…”They’re coming after us.” A crowd scares everyone. “PHYSICAL PRESENCE” means TCB…”TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS.”
We can all start…”start”…is the magic word…by
E-mailing Whitehouse.gov…you know…like we did when Obama was campaigning. We made it the #1 issue…
because…”We did it.” Now it’s time to do it again…
but…that’s only the beginning. We have to drive our point home with “PHYSICAL PRESENCE.” In their face is the only thing they understand…non-violent in their face. Don’t thiink that they don’t take a head count on every E-mail they get. E-mail will wake them up…
our “PHYSICAL PRESENCE” open their eyes wide.
