The Republican Candidates on Marijuana

As we approach the middle of January, Election 2012 is in full swing. Fresh off of the Iowa Caucuses, the six remaining Republican candidates move on to New Hampshire for their January 10th primary. As a non-profit organization, we are not permitted to endorse candidates for public office, but we hope this guide helps inform you of the marijuana policy positions of the various candidates.

(Note: NORML is not endorsing any of the candidates listed below and this is intended only as an educational overview of the candidates positions on marijuana policy.)

Republican Presidential Candidates 2012

Mitt Romney

Governor of Massachusetts (2003-2007)

Public Statements:

“People talk about medicinal marijuana, and, you know, you hear that story: People who are sick need medicinal marijuana. But marijuana is the entry drug for people trying to get kids hooked on drugs. I don’t want medicinal marijuana. There are synthetic forms of marijuana that are available for people who need it for prescription. Don’t open the doorway to medicinal marijuana.”

(“Ask Mitt Anything” Event in Bedford, NH 2007 – source)

“We’ve got to not only continue our war on drugs from a police standpoint but also to market again to our young people about the perils of drugs.”

(New Hampshire Voter Event, August 17, 2011 – source)

“I believe marijuana should be illegal in this country. It is the pathway to drug usage by our society, which has made great scourges; it is one of the great causes of crime in our cities. I believe if we are at a state were, of course we are very concerned about people who are suffering in pain, and there are various means of providing pain management. And those who have had loved ones that have gone through an end of life with cancer know nature of real pain. I watched my wife’s mom and dad going through cancer treatments suffering a great deal of pain, but they didn’t have marijuana, and they didn’t need marijuana. Because there were other sources of pain management that worked as effectively.”

(Oct. 4 2007 at St. Anselm’s College, Manchester, NH – source)

“But having legalized [medical] marijuana is, in my view, an effort by a very committed few to try to get marijuana out in the public and ultimately legalize marijuana. They have a long way to go. We need less drugs in this society, not more drugs. I would oppose the legalization of marijuana in the country or legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes because pain management is available from other sources.”

(Oct. 4 2007 at St. Anselm’s College, Manchester, NH – source)

UPDATED 01/09/12:

“Q: I want to know what you thought about industrialized hemp?

Romney: About what?

Q: Industrialized hemp.

Romney: Industrialized hemp? I’m not quite sure what industrialized hemp is.”

(Peterborough, NH Town Hall on January 5, 2012 – source)

“Q: Are you in favor of arresting medical marijuana patients?

Romney: I’m in favor of the law not allowing legal marijuana.”

Ron Paul

House of Representatives for Texas’ 22nd (1976-1977, 1979-1985, 1997-Present)

Public Statements:

“This war on drugs has been a detriment to personal liberty and it’s been a real abuse of liberty, Our prisons are full with people who have used drugs who should be treated as patients — and they’re non-violent. Someday we’re gonna awake and find out that the prohibition we are following right now with drugs is no more successful, maybe a lot less successful, than the prohibition of alcohol was in the ’20s.”

(Comments Post-Iowa Caucus, 01/04/12 – source)

“Well, removing [marijuana] from the jurisdiction of the federal government and allowing the states to regulate it, like they would alcohol. And this seems to be strange for a lot of people, but I’m only going back to 1937 when that’s the way it was handled. The states always did this, and I’m motivated strongly also because the states legalize it for the use of medicinal purposes and it is helpful to people who have cancer or are getting chemotherapy. So this is not a huge radical idea, it’s something that was legal for a long, long time. And the war against marijuana causes so much hardship and accomplishes nothing. So I would say that marijuana, as far as causing highway problems, is miniscule compared to alcohol, and yet we knew prohibition of alcohol was very bad. So this is just getting back to a sensible position on how we handle difficult problems. And, for me, it should be the states.”

(Kudlow Report, June 23, 2011 – source)

“The role of the federal government is to protect our liberties. That means they should protect our religious liberties to do what we want; our intellectual liberty, but it also should protect our right to do to our body what we want, you know, what we take into our bodies.”

(Jay Leno Show, Dec. 2011 – source)

UPDATED 01/12/12

“Q: Why don’t the other candidates talk about drug policy?

Ron Paul: I think they are easily intimidated and they think people are going to hold it against them if they talk sensibly about drug policy.  Yet I think they are about 20 years behind the time. I think prohibition of anything doesn’t work, the only thing we should prohibit is violence.”

Rick Santorum

House of Representatives for Pennsylvania’s 18th District (1991-1995)

US Senator from Pennsylvania (1995-2007)

Public Statements:

“There is a difference between legitimate issues of character — someone’s behavior — and the issue of whether someone who has done something wrong in their life, now because of those mistakes, can’t talk about what is the right thing to do. Politicians who have stumbled personally, are capable of making values-based arguments. I don’t think that’s hypocritical. That’s a dangerous line that many folks tend to cross over — that because you made a mistake, you can’t talk about this or that issue. We all make mistakes.

For example, I smoked pot when I was in college. Does that mean that I can’t talk about drug use? Does that mean that I can’t talk about how that’s a bad thing? Of course not. You learn from those experiences.

Even during that time, I knew that what I was doing was wrong. But just because I failed, that does not mean that I shouldn’t be able to talk about it. That’s a different issue. It’s not hypocrisy, as long as you don’t say, ‘I thought it was right, and now think it was wrong.’ If you knew what was going on, and mostpeople do, you have moments of weakness. It happens to all of us. But that should not deter people from talking about what they believe is right.”

(National Review, March 2011 – source)

“Well, yeah, I admitted you know, back when I was running for the Senate, that when I was in college that I smoked pot and that was something that I did when I was in college. It was something that I’m not proud of, but I did. And said it was something that I wish I hadn’t done. But I did and I admitted it. I would encourage people not to do so. It was not all it’s made up to be.”
(Piers Morgan Tonight, August 31st, 2011 – source)

“I would think that [legalizing marijuana] would be an activity that is not consistent with American values.”
(Ames Straw Poll, September 2011 – source)

“I am adamantly opposed to the legalization of marijuana and other illegal narcotics I believe that this would lead to increased drug usage, especially among young people. While it is true that many Americans blatantly defy federal laws against the trafficking, sale, and use of illegal drugs, I believe a greater number of people are deterred from illegal drug use by the threat of arrest and prosecution.”

(1998 Constituent Letter Supplied to NORML – source)

“I believe that the drugs which are currently illegal should remain illegal. I am committed to maintaining the federal government’s role in the “war on drugs”, which is fought on many fronts by federal agents, local law enforcement, substance abuse counselors, teachers, parents, and concerned citizens.”

(1998 Constituent Letter Supplied to NORML – source)

UPDATED 01/09/12:

“Q: As a champion of family values and keeping America strong, would you continue to destroy families by sending non-violent drug offenders to prison?

Santorum: Uh, wow. The federal government doesn’t do that.”

(College Convention 2012 in Concord, NH – source)

“Santorum: I guess I would take the opinion that federal laws are laws that are in place right now that say these are narcotics, right?  I don’t know, I assume they are…

Audience Member: I’m sorry, they’re not.

Santorum: Ok, alright, I don’t know my medical marijuana laws very well. I know should know everything, but I don’t, I apologize, I’m trying my best. But I think they are a hazardous thing to society. So I would..

Audience Member: How did you form that opinion?

Santorum: I formed that opinion from my own life experiences, and having experience that…I went to college too. So, I would make the argument that states have the rights, but they don’t have the right to do anything they want to, states don’t have the right to sterilize people. They did at one time, but we said, “No, we aren’t going to do that anymore.” States under the constitution probably have the right to do it, just like they have the right to do marijuana laws…legally, but I don’t think they morally have the right to do things that are harmful to the people in their community and therefore I think the federal government should step in.”

(College Convention 2012 in Concord, NH – source)

“Q: I’m a marijuana user should I be arrested?

Santorum: Well, depends on what the laws in your state are, I guess.”

(Hollis, NH on January 7, 2012 – source)

“Well you know, obviously state drug laws are the principle drug laws. I have concerns about obviously drug use and its impact on our society. So, I would say that the federal government does have a role, that states don’t go out and legalize drugs, there are drugs that are hazardous to people, that do cause great harm to both the individual as well as to society as a whole. The federal government has a role to make sure that those drugs are not in this country and not available and that people who use them illegally are held accountable. Ideally, states should enforce these laws, but the federal government has a role because it is a public health issue for the country.”

Newt Gingrich

House of Representatives for Georgia’s 5th District (1979-1999)

House Minority Whip (1989-1995)

Speaker of the House (1995-1999)

Public Statements:

“I think Jefferson or George Washington would have rather strongly discouraged you from growing marijuana and their techniques with dealing with it would have been rather more violent than our current government.”

(New Hampshire Voter Event, January 2012 – source)

“I would continue current federal policy, largely because of the confusing signal that steps towards legalization sends to harder drugs…I think the California experience is that medical marijuana becomes a joke. It becomes marijuana for any use. You find local doctors who will prescribe it for anybody that walks in.”

(Yahoo! News Interview, November 28th, 2011 – source)

“I don’t have a comprehensive view. My general belief is that we ought to be much more aggressive about drug policy. And that we should recognize that the Mexican cartels are funded by Americans. In my mind it means having steeper economic penalties and it means having a willingness to do more drug testing.”

(Yahoo! News Interview, November 28th, 2011 – source)

“I think that we need to consider taking more explicit steps to make it expensive to be a drug user. It could be through testing before you get any kind of federal aid. Unemployment compensation, food stamps, you name it.

It has always struck me that if you’re serious about trying to stop drug use, then you need to find a way to have a fairly easy approach to it and you need to find a way to be pretty aggressive about insisting–I don’t think actually locking up users is a very good thing. I think finding ways to sanction them and to give them medical help and to get them to detox is a more logical long-term policy.”

(Yahoo! News Interview, November 28th, 2011 – source)

“Q: I’m a recreational drug user, should I arrested?

Gingrich: No you shouldn’t be arrested, but you also shouldn’t do it.”

(January 4, 2012 at Concord, NH Town Hall Meeting – source)

“Gingrich: There is a general belief over the last couple hundred years that people who are drug addicted citizens are not capable of participating as independent citizens. They are not capable of exercising independent judgment. So if you look at cocaine and heroin addicts, they loose the ability to be fully participating citizens.

Q: That doesn’t seem to match with the consistency of how many people seem to use drugs in this country. So, I’m saying well over the majority of individuals in this country use or have used drugs, what you are saying is the majority of individuals are incapable of participating…

Gingrich: No, what I’m saying is even among the majority of those who have would agree they shouldn’t be legalized.

Q: What polls are you referring to?

Gingrich: The polls in terms of legalizing heroin and cocaine, there’s never been any support for that.

Q: Oh, well I’m talking about marijuana.

Gingrich: Well…I’m just talking about cocaine and heroin.”

(Gingrich Town Hall in Concord, NH, January 4, 2012 – source)

UPDATED 01/12/12

“Every place where drugs become legalized, matter of fact is more people on welfare, more people who are dependent, more people with bad health outcomes, fewer people who are able workers who can pay attention on the job, and a drain of money into illegality.  Because immediately behind legalized marijuana, comes cocaine and heroin. And the very people who were busy selling marijuana branch into even more aggressive sale of the harder illegal drugs.  So, I think it is a big net economic loss and a job killing idea.”

“When the federal government oversteps its authority, states should tell Washington they will not be complicit in enforcing laws with which they do not agree. Again, the best example is an issue I don’t even agree with—the partial legalization of marijuana. Californians clearly want some level of legalized marijuana, be it for medicinal use or otherwise. The federal government is telling them they cannot. But states are not bound to enforce federal law, and the federal government cannot commandeer state resources and require them to enforce it.”

  1. Other than Ron Paul and Gary Johnson (who is now running as a Libertarian) it is quite unfortunate that these Republicans–who say they want a smaller government and want government to stay out of our lives–do want the government in our lives when it comes to marijuana. This involvement they want is the most intrusive: Taken to jail and locked in cages; SWAT teams kicking in our doors; forced drug treatment.

  2. “I think Jefferson or George Washington would have rather strongly discouraged you from growing marijuana and their techniques with dealing with it would have been rather more violent than our current government.” – Newt Gingrich
Really Newt?? In 1619 Jamestown colony law declared that all settlers were required to grow hemp. And according to the NAIHC, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both grew hemp. Ben Franklin owned a mill that made hemp paper. Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence on hemp paper. Stupid.

  3. I don’t understand a political party whom preaches a smaller government would want them in our daily lives like this like the previous comment. I just can’t stand the hypocrisy they display just to get some conservative votes…

  4. I am truly disappointed in NORML concerning the lack of support for Ron Paul. You guys sucked Obama off when he pandered to you, but now that we know Obama is another POS politician, why can’t you throw your full support behind Ron Paul? Is it the freedoms he supports besides the end of federal prohibition? Have you been won over by the talking heads who despise him? He has been consistent for 30 years, you won’t get burned this time around I assure you.

[Paul Armentano responds: Seriously, how many different times and ways can we respond to the same question? NORML did not endorse Barack Obama in 2008 and, in fact, our non-profit status prohibits us from formally endorsing any specific candidate. We’ve made this point crystal clear on many occasions, going back many years: http://blog.norml.org/2008/09/12/presidential-candidates-on-drugs/. Ditto for other drug law reform organizations. By contrast, the NORML Political Action Committee can financially contribute to specific people running for office and the PAC has previously donated to Ron Paul, whose staff we have worked with on various pieces of marijuana reform friendly legislation in Congress.]

  5. When I was in college, I was given an option by “law enforcement” – Make an undercover buy for us, or you can lose everything you have worked for in school.

I left the University without a degree, something that has set me back many years. The War on Weed pits lifelong friends against each other, makes families think that their children are bad people, and most importantly, is a drag on our society.

$1000 for a pack of JOB papers and 1/2 a gram of nuggets? Seriously Alabama? No wonder your state is backwards and your children don’t graduate from High School.

It’s about principles. Ron Paul is the only real choice this year, that’s my endorsement. I’ve never fought in the military, but I have been caught up in the Wars. End the Wars.

  6. “I would think that [legalizing marijuana] would be an activity that is not consistent with American values.” -Rick Santorum

American values? I fail to see how government regulation on a substance less harmful than alcohol is consistent with values such as, you know… FREEDOM.

Ron Paul seems like the only guy that really understands this. While I may not agree with him on everything, he seems like the least corrupted candidate out of these clowns that are trying to run for office.

    Politics make me sick.

  7. Laughable….

Mindless drones “vs” Conditioning “vs” Hippocracy.

    Anyway you slice its BS.

  8. I was surprised to see Rick Perry actually seems genuine about his “states’ rights” stance, unfortunately it’s just a pretty phrase for the rest. Not a fan of any of these people, and it’s good that they put their ignorance out there for everybody to see. They’re living in an age where quotes don’t go away, and claims can be researched by anybody, but they’re operating as though it’s still 30 years ago.

  9. Hey Newt, Presidents Washington and Jefferson both not only encouraged but grew Hemp themselves. The draft of our constitution was written on hemp paper. Well it’s only our history I’m sure you’ll try to rewrite that also.

  10. marijuana illegalization=american people locked up and careers ruined, drug lords who murder and kill become more rich and powerful. these are the only two SOLID FACTS i can think of that this law does for the american people.

  11. Republicans ‘make hay’ with their ‘moral stance’ and ‘tough on crime’ position. To be ‘tough on crime’… you have to create criminals.

Pot smokers are a great target because there are so many. Sex offenders are another favorite target. While most are ‘practically harmless’… crossing a ‘moral line’… politicians would have you believe that all ‘sex offenders’ are the type of people that would kidnap, torture and murder your children. Can’t have that… better elect me… I’ll put them all to death.

    Government is based on immorality.

  12. Ill endorse one for you. There is only one that stands up for us and does not wavier over time or with pressure. RON PAUL 2012

  13. Hats off to the candidates who believe that cannabis legalization will promote a rise within the youth.

How often do we see underage drinking? Even when I was sixteen, my friends would have the seniors at my school buy them packs of cigarettes. Strong parenting morals should be the standard here. If parents can’t give sound advice or restraint to their children, might as well prohibit alcohol and cigarettes too.

Lyme borreliosis is a brain disease as well as a multisystemic disease caused by spirochetal bacteria.* Quite frankly, it is an infection that has been burdened with a thousand inaccurate medical diagnoses.

The manner in which the current pandemic of tertiary Lyme disease, neuroborreliosis, has usually been handled— either angrily dismissed or strangely misdiagnosed–throughout the 30 years following its “discovery,” has blemished the historic excellence of modern American Medicine.

    Special to AOL News
(May 28) — We’re in the midst of a terrifying epidemic, although you wouldn’t know it to talk to most doctors and health specialists.

The disease is growing at a rate faster than AIDS. From 2006 to 2008 alone, the number of cases jumped a whopping 77 percent. In 2008 alone, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed 28,921 “confirmed” and 6,277 “probable” cases of the disease, but there could be as many as 420,000 because of underreporting.

Prominent victims include Parker Posey, Richard Gere, President George W. Bush, Alice Walker and Christie Brinkley.

If any other disease had stricken so many people, the medical community would be scurrying for knowledge, scrambling for cures or rushing to warn patients (think swine flu).

But more important is the need for public health community to treat this disease like the epidemic it is, and start putting real resources into educating the public and the medical profession about how to identify it, treat it, and prevent it.

  15. DRACONIAN LAW IN AN AQUARIAN AGE

What is required for people to come together consciously for their own benefit. Ano Ano: The Seed–The Classic Trilogy by Kristen Zambucka enlightens the audience to the core wisdoms of Hawaiian Spiritual Traditions. The title is quite fitting for the circumstance of present and the forum for the discussion as the consequence of a citizens incarceration for providing the greatest wisdom for increasing joy and comfort during the passage of birth old age sickness and death will be embraced within an appropriate consequence in time.

Hence a great consideration to understand our collective situation is of the highest priority. Marc Scott Emery brings the wisdom of the seed. Jesse Ventura provides the clarity of the unlawful biological war used against North America in the Plum Island Conspiracy via TRUtv along with the Independent movie “Under Our Skin” showing the horrors and criminal results of this very sophisticated organic weapon empowered by the Marijuana prohibition.

Thus the question of personal self respect and positions of response are forced upon collective society who choose to fight for any intelligent right to life.

How ironic and necessary is it that the Cannabis Culture Crew is thurst into the position to play Citizen Cop to fix the greatest crime in our living history.

In Western society we use money to reflect values — where is the money supporting intelligent living citizens prosecuting left over Hitler assassin doctors working for a captured administration?

  16. When did it become common practice for the major news outlets to endorse a particular political candidate? If it’s okay for the media to get into bed with a candidate, why is it not okay for NORML to take a stand on the issue?

[Editor’s note: Major news media outlets are not non-profit organizations that labor under IRS/FEC regulations.]

  17. RON PAUL 2012, norml cannot LEGALLY endorse RON PAUL but do your homework on his stance on the marijuana issue. He co-sponsored the bill to get the feds off of the states backs when it comes to marijuana. I do not consume marijuana in any form but I am PRO-Legalization for many logical reasons that will help our society as a whole. WAKE UP AMERICA, Obama is not the man for this country, screw the establishment candidates (Obama, Romney, Santorem, Gingrich) these guys are out to continue ruining lives in America. VOTE FOR REAL CHANGE, VOTE FOR RON PAUL. Vote in your states caucus to get him on the presidential ticket & then vote for him again in November. RON PAUL 2012

  18. This proves that they are not capable of understanding and can only protect their own fix , which makes them act like addicts when it comes to tobacco and alcohol. Maybe when theirs are illegal and they can’t get their fix they will leave ours and us alone. So Romney, there just could be dangerous drugs out their after all. Why are these proven to kill items still on the shelf and these stores not shut down? we can see you and everyone in there. We see what’s going on and the problem is prohibition not cannabis.

  19. Many many politicians from both ‘mainstream’ political parties are not only Right Wing Authoritarians by nature, but are also deeply beholden to crony corporate special interests for their campaign contributions. One merely look at 2 particular issues that are at odds with the opinions of a large number of constituents — the War Of Drugs and the War Of Terror.

The legislative response from politicians on both of these issues favors a draconian police state, including equating cannabis use to terrorism. Reality shows that both of these ‘wars’ are perpetual, never winnable, are vast sink-holes of funds this country doesn’t have, and are embraced by the elite as justification to shred the Constitution & Bill of Rights.

This country needs a better class of politicians, ones that begin by respecting their oaths of office in support of the Constitution & Bill of Rights, instead of working for an overbearing police state. Voters need to shed their identity with any particular political party and instead look at what the individual candidates stand for. Actions, like legislation, speak far louder and truthfully than ephemeral campaign rhetoric and empty promises.

  20. So RAND group found [opening] cannabis dispensaries are associated with lowered overall crime. There are also many observations that has found the crime rate increases with the opening of bars… Is something backwards?

  21. I laugh at people who “support the Constitution” because no where in the Constitution does it prohibit cannabis (or hemp), and also it’s debatable that the Federal government breaks the States’ rights part of the Constitution. Give me a – H Y P O C R I T E S!

  22. Newt Gingrich’s first comment on what George Washington would do is total bunk, everyone knows George grew hemp, I doubt he’d mind pot; but when he says weed in California is a joke sounds a lot like “just legalize it” to me. Rick Perry however seems against legalization but almost recommends the states to do so. I don’t buy Huntsman’s saying, though he might be really laissez faire about it, nor Santorum, he’s like “drugs are bad mkay?” Then Romney although very against pot is at least consistent about it, but it seems mostly out of ignorance.

  23. It should be understood that around the year 2014 America will be at large majority in support of legalized marijuana (assuming the average 1% yearly growth continues). Also *around* the year 2014 Sativex (legal extract of cannabinoids found directly in cannabis plant) will be available in America for certain uses. It’s going to be an interesting decade for cannabis. Which side will prevail!?!?!

  24. Newt Gingrich needs to take a early American history lesson on George Washington. He was a Hemp Farmer. And a dairy suggested he knew about separating males from females.

These candidates are catering to the prohibitionists.

  25. And while we are at it, let’s keep on sending soldiers to fight against drug money funded fighters in the middle east . . . let’s spend billions so they can fight an ever constent funded enemy . . . let’s let them use illegal drug money to invest in stronger legal money. America: a dog chasing its tail gets better results.

  26. I know a lot of people who support marijuana legalization are fans of Ron Paul. While I certainly agree with his stance on marijuana and the criminalization of other illicit drugs, he’s not a guy I’d want as a president. He’s been associated with quite a bit of racist material, even though he has tried desperately to distance himself from these. Ron Paul ironically also supports reducing funds for social services that helps those who have serious medical conditions (the very same people, such as myself, who really do need medical marijuana). So, please, if you believe Ron Paul would be a great leader in all relevant contexts, then by all means vote for him, but if you only like him because of his stance on marijuana–which by the way he may not be able to change since he himself can’t actually re-schedule a controlled substance–then please consider the other candidates.

  27. I was pleasantly surprised at Rick Perry’s and John Huntsman’s support of the states.

-Rick Santorum seems to have an issue of self. It is possible to smoke or ingest cannabis and still have a worthy character.

    -Newtgetrich- No surprise.

    -Paul-Steadfast.

    Thoughts on Romney’s response.

”But marijuana is the entry drug for people trying to get kids hooked on drugs.”

I would say that the unjust laws keeping the people away from cannabis is the key entry for “not trying” but totally succeeding in getting kids and adults hooked on our earths most dangerous drugs.

Romney also says ” There are synthetic forms of marijuana that are available for people who need it for prescription.”

Obviously he is supportive of cannabis as a medicine but only if it is prescribed from a governmental backed pharmaceutical company locking out any and all Americans who can simply acquire the same affects or better by growing their own.

Then he says ”Don’t open the doorway to medicinal marijuana.”

I guess the only door that should be open for cannabis is the governments synthetic cannabis prescription door.

Romney-”We need less drugs in this society, not more drugs.”

Except for all the drugs with side effects of of possible organ failure or even death promoted on television for everyone from kids to grandparents by big pharm right Rom?

How much longer people will we put up with this unjust nonsense of putting our citizens in jail, tarnishing our kids records, separating families etc. For a natural plant that has never caused one person on this earth any illness or wrong. How much longer will we let those working in the system with college degrees fill their pockets for bigger homes, toys and vacations on the mountain top, through laws benefiting themselves and the big pharm? This crazyness must end. Wake up people! Please.

  28. If Ron Paul gets the nomination, I’ll vote for him. Otherwise, I’ll vote for Obama. Our economy is in the tank and to continue this insane drug war on marijuana is something that we can’t justify anymore. We’re spending billions on enforcement and incarceration and there’s too much loss of life on both sides. Not only that, but the loss of otherwise productive people from the workforce because of drug testing costs the government billions more in lost tax revenue. Now we know which candidates would prefer to continue the failed war on drugs…let us vote accordingly. We need to make an all out effort to remove the neanderthals from our government. Once they realize that unless they change their position, they are out, then and only then, will they come around to a more sensible approach to what they perceive as a problem.

  29. Don’t let Perry or Huntsman fool you: They basically have the same fake position as Obama, and we know how that turned out.

Ron Paul 2012! He’s the one that’s been on our side for years, working to end this horrible war.

  30. If Santorum would volunteer to be punished by the government for breaking marijuana laws, and went through with it, I would at least respect his position. But no, anti-weed politicians continue to mention “past indiscretions” as if it’s not big deal, when many of their constituents are haunted by a permanent record for the exact same thing.

  31. These drug warriors are as addicted to their bullshit as heroin addicts to their smack.

“But marijuana is the entry drug for people trying to get kids hooked on drugs. I don’t want medicinal marijuana.” Right, Rick. Like that makes any damn sense. Marijuana doesn’t get you hooked on anything, puppet.

  32. The Republican’t Party must like Obama a lot,,they are only putting up,at best, mediocre candidates, except for Ron Paul,,and I believe they will nullify any candidate selection made if America picks him.

  33. @ TrthAnOffnseButNotaSin

Do you know how mad the companies that produce governent approved “synthetic marijuana” must be because no black market has developed for it?

  34. “I think Jefferson or George Washington would have rather strongly discouraged you from growing marijuana and their techniques with dealing with it would have been rather more violent than our current government.” – Newt Gingrich

Really Newt? You know what the people of countries controlled by dictators eventually do? They rise up and kill the people in government who are oppressing them. Happens every time. Saddam, Kaddaffy, long list there….

  35. Nick:

This election should be a ONE ISSUE ELECTION : LEGALIZING MARIJUANA.

Reversing this moral injustice, the greatest social injustice since slavery and this vast waste of American dollars will propel America by leaps and bounds OVERNIGHT back into the best country to live in the world.

Ron Paul is THE ONLY HOPE WE HAVE. Vote him in, point the proverbial gun to his head “GET THE JOB DONE NOW OR GET OUT”!!!!!

If he fails in his 1st term, get rid of him. But get rid of him in a way that sets an example for future LIARS or people who say they will get the job done but fail or lie (like OBAMA).

  36. 545 people control the lives of 300 million people in this country.

Just on shear numbers, we ought to be able to overthrow them overnight and nary a weapon other than your fist would be needed to do it.

When is the next time we can get all 545 of them in the same building?

  37. WHY are we not doing anything?!!! “Oh, I hate politics.” “I hate hypocrisy.”
STOP SAYING THESE FUCKING THINGS AND THEN LETTING THE WORLD CONTINUE THE WAY IT IS GOING. Stand up and DO something, our government cannot impose their views on other like they have been. If you don’t like something change it!

  38. Hey Newt! 2 seconds of research make all the difference:

“Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth & protection of the country.”
    – Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President quote on Hemp

“Make the most you can of the Indian Hemp seed and sow it everywhere.”
    – George Washington, U.S. President quote on Hemp

  39. Alcohol & cigarettes are legal, but weed is not??? It all comes down to the mighty dollar. So don’t believe anything these guys are saying about medical values or the right to choose.
Politicians are all full of shit. They talk a good game on the key issues, but don’t do anything. Republican / democrat, they are all the same. When Obama was first running for president he preached about change. Except for killing a few Middle East scum bags, what kind of changes has he made? Economy & job market is a disaster. Foreign affairs & relationships are strained. America is no longer the richest & most powerful nation any more. In my opinion our government is like a big kindergarden class…bullying, bickering, name calling, etc. I think it’s mostly congress that’s making Obama look so bad since they shoot down everything he tries to do.

  40. its easy to see who has big pharma and there big bucks in there pocket. romney and gingrich will set this movement back for years. Ron Paul has my vote.

  41. I have been slammed on the hood of my car and put in cuffs In CT simply because I had .3 grams of weed. A simple plant that was made by “god” a Being that has influenced our entire amerIcan culture to what it is today. Half of these politicians have definitely smoked this herb and yet they look down on it simply to get a couple more votes. If you wanted to be the president of the united states you should follow the beliefs of “we the people” believe in. Weed doesn’t hurt society, it doesn’t Promote violence, it doesn’t kill your body, so why exactly is it leveled as a level one narcotic? Makes no sense if you ask me.

  42. I was hoping these candidates would be sensible…but so far the only one is Paul. Its bad, but its not that bad. I have food, I have water, I have shelter and a job (for now), compared to some other countries we’re all privileged . There’s no reason to destroy everything and start over, not yet at least.

  43. Cannabis is a substance whose regular use can lead to intellectual inquiry. In essence it represents everything the status quo fears. As long as we remain tied to a private monetary system of debt & slavery (i.e., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Reserve_System)… the illusion of personal liberty will be defined & controlled by the ruling class to whom we owe our debt.

  44. Really Newt? The famous hemp growers Jefferson and Washington would discourage us growing a crop they dearly loved? God, you’re a stupid, stupid man. ron paul for pres.

  45. Like some said about some of Paul’s other political stand points might not be the best but which candidate do you even support 70%? Probably not many or none.

If he can go in there for 4 years do something with the marijuana laws and we can come just a little bit out of debt let him do it and show that it can help us in the long run so others will help the movement. We are so far in debt I see no problem using 4 years as an experiment as an attempt to see if its possible to get out of 1 trillion of debt. Why not?

  46. Of course I like Ron Paul’s take on the drug issue and foreign policy, but I don’t like his other positions on social security, medicare, abortion, or choice. He deserves more scrutiny.

  47. I agree with David, Washington grew hemp for rope and some for smoke. What planet is Newt from, not Earth that’s for sure?

  48. Hi,

The fact that this even is still an issue is staggering. It amazes me, too, that people are still quoting the same lies from the mid 1930s when Hearst (in one of the earliest 20th Century examples of a Corporation using the Government to further it’s cash intake) convinced the Government to outlaw “Marijuana” as hemp was a threat to his paper industry.

As to Ron Paul, he’s into decriminalization on a State level. That’s great. He’s also a living gargoyle that has ties to the KKK and American Neo Nazi party. Not to mention “Libertarianism” is just another word for Objectivism. I mean, Woody Harrelson get stoned too, but I wouldn’t vote him in as President because of that.

The rest of the quotes from these people show a true ignorance on the issue and the current climate of America.

Also, how funny is it when Politicians try to talk about Science or Medicine?

“I watched my wife’s mom and dad going through cancer treatments suffering a great deal of pain, but they didn’t have marijuana, and they didn’t need marijuana. Because there were other sources of pain management that worked as effectively.”

Well clearly, idiot, they DIDN’T work effectively, because you were seeing them go through pain. A plant is illegal, and illegal means morally wrong. Remember, though, Drugs are A-OKAY if your dealer is Pfizer or Glaxo! And synthetic is always the way to go. Clearly, he allows that philosophy to leak into his personality as well.

And the whole “gateway” thing, I can’t believe that’s really an argument still. In fact, the very fact of legalization and unrestricted freedom to grow would remove pretty much of any direct threat of that. I can remember going to some kid’s’ house to buy a sack and him offering me, pretty much, every type of Narcotic under the sun. You simply don’t get that in dispensaries or in your garden/closet. If you remove the crime, you remove the stigma, you remove the stigma, you remove the need for people to seek it out in a place that is sketchy or dangerous. Also, the subtle psychological shifts between knowingly committing a crime vs. just making a common purchase completely affects the rest of your decision making and attitude. Wouldn’t it be great if, in 15 years you could hear some kid say, “I don’t drink, do drugs or tobacco – just pot.” Without irony or paranoia?

Anyway, vote for whoever you want, but realize every single face on this page wants to make money off you and keep you chained to a kyriarchal wall of stagnation if not societal regression.

    Love,
    Uncle Nick

  49. If anything leads like a precedent, our own center of Federal power being The District of Columbia, has legalized Medicinal MJ. Congress opted to not intervene. The Federal Legislative Branch of Government (you know… the law makers) decided not to go against it when it could under “Home Rule”. That to me sound like a “leave it up to your area” type ruling. So, you should not have to rely on President when you have a strong precedent. Having a President in favor of legalization, decriminalization, removal or lowering from Schedule 1 or whatever, just makes it a more powerful stance.

Vote for a person and not a Party. For for who you think would do the best job but at least get out and vote.

  50. I can honestly say that reading this it made me ashamed to be a republican. Newt is a moron, Perry has no clue, Santorum just wants a job, our only hope as a marijuana using republican(gasp) yep there are a few is Ron Paul but some of the things he says makes me wonder if he isnt from another planet. Maybe we should write in Willie and woody for president.

  51. Ron Paul sez it best, let the state decide it , marijuana has no worse effects than tobacco or liquor. Truth is no chemical addictions to marijuana. But yet our government approves these narcotic pain killers that really kill people just saying

  52. So we have ron paul who is a good candidate. And rick perry, who I like the fact, wants states to be able to enforce their own laws, without fearing federal enforcemnt. Thats amazing but there is the opposing fact that we still spend way to much on the war on drugs and he wants to continue.

  53. Newt Gingrich is a total jerk and moron. Romney isn’t far behind… Given the chance, I’ll vote for Ron Paul in a heartbeat. I don’t even care if I don’t agree with him on some other issues. Let’s get this one straightened out first then we can work on the others!

  54. Sounds like Paul is the way to go in this issue…and possibly even Perry saying he’s not for it but let the states decide

  55. Another golden nugget of wisdom from Mr. Gingrich:

“I think the California experience is that medical marijuana becomes a joke. It becomes marijuana for any use. You find local doctors who will prescribe it for anybody that walks in.”

Local doctors already prescribe Oxy Contin for anybody that walks in. So I guess that means your drug policy, like your campaign, is just a joke as well

And the opiate epidemic in this country over the last ten years has done more damage than legalizing pot will ever do in a thousand.

  56. I agree with “uncle Nick”, “As to Ron Paul, he’s into decriminalization on a State level. That’s great. He’s also a living gargoyle that has ties to the KKK and American Neo Nazi party. …”
I want to repost a link to an article I didn’t write, but would like others to consider, Paul deserves more inquiry…http://www.elephantjournal.com/2011/12/20-reasons-i-wont-vote-for-ron-paul/

And of course the other candidates are mindless idiots, and of course I would like to see an end to the bogus “war on drugs”, as well as the undeclared war on education, which Paul would perpetuate. Along with global warming. This is not a single issue election.

  57. ” We need less drugs in this society, not more drugs “.
I only wonder how much he’s recieved in political contributions from Pharma & alcohol and isn’t pharma inventing more & more drugs ? What a lying piece of crap hypocrite !

  58. We already know where Obama stands thanks to the DEA’s actions against medpot. That means we are looking at Ron Paul as our only (somewhat) viable candidate for this issue of ours.

Why do so many Americans dislike freedom? Lefties want to take away some and righties want to take others. Does anyone other than Paul have real respect for the US Consitution? Being for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights today is more radical than it was in Revolutionary America’s time it seems.

  59. I find it surprising that they don’t mention the fact that RP would pardon all non-violent drug offenders in the US. That alone should make all stoners want him for pres.

  60. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION THESE MORONS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS LIKE TO GO THRUE CANCER, OR OTHER CHRONIC PAIN CONDITIONS, HAVING HAD CANCER FOR 7 YEATS AFTER 17 SURGERIES IN MY NECK, HAVING NEVER SMOKED CIGARRETS NOR DRINK ALCHOHOL MY CANCER JUST CAME OUT FROM NO WHERE LOST MY VOICE AND I LIVE NOW WITH CHRONIC NEUROPATHY FROM THE DAMAGE THE CHEMO DID, IT CAUSE NERVE DAMAGE IN BOTH ELBOWS IT DAMAGE MY SPINE HAD BOTH ELBOWS AND BACK SURGERY AND MY LIFE AS WE KNOW IT CHANGED! I BELIEVE IF I DONT WANT TO TAKE VICODIN AND ANY OTHER DRUG MY DOCTOR PUSHES ME TO TAKE! ITS MY CHOICE AND RIGHT ITS NOBODYS RIGHT TO CHOOSE FOR ME! THESE SO CALLED EDUCATED POLITICIANS ARE ALL LOOKIN AFTER THEIR INTEREST, UNLESS YOU GO THRUE A LIFE OF CHRONIC PAIN AND GET SICK OF TAKING THE SO CALLED PAIN KILLERS THEN THEY SHOULD SHUT YHEIR PIE WHOLES AND READ THE RESEARSH AND STUDIES THAT CLEARLY STATES THE BENEFITS OF MEDICAL MJ, NOONE OVERDOSES AND HOWNANY OVERDOSES DO WE SEE ON OXICODONE AND OTHER PAIN DRUGS DAILY IN THE US HOSPITALS? YESH IS A EPIDEMIC BUT POT IS A GATEWSY DRUGS!!!! WHAT MORONS!

  61. I’ll vote for Paul even if many progressives would cut my head off for it. Obama had plenty of chances to correct the MMJ issues but instead chose to attack. Paul probably won’t make it on the ticket but right now he’s the only person running that doesn’t think I’m a criminal. Newt, Romney, the rest, are all bought with corporate money and if they or anyone else in the field other than Ron gets the nom I’ll go back and vote for our #1 lying POS Opharma. Ugh!

  62. Mitt said Marijuana just leads to harder drugs?Maybe we should look at the tabacco companies or the alchohol industry.or even the pharmacutical companies pushing there so called good medicine.I will take pot any day of the week before any of those other things.Oh wait they all got lobbists in washington.

  63. For those that argue that marijuana use is the “pathway to drug usage by our society” how do you account for the number of professionals, i.e. doctors, lawyers, judges, politicians, accountants, etc. that smoke pot. Did Rick Santorum’s use of pot in college lead him to drug usage? Did Bill Clinton become a drug user? This law exemplifies the hypocrisy of our political leaders. I contend it is the youth’s basic mistrust and lack of good role models (starting with the government) that generates the apathy that encourages getting high. The old ‘chicken and the egg dilema.

  64. cannabis is as much a gateway to harder drugs as milk/baby formula is to alcohol and caffeine

where are you from newt are you not a supposed historian then why don’t you know that the founding fathers you speak of being against this were growers themselves ? all of these folks except ron paul are very severly out of touch with reality

  65. let me just say this. i live in florida where if you have a stubbed toe and a mri we will give a bottle of oxycotin to “manage your pain”. i was in a car accident i went to a “pain management doctor” all that S.O.B. did was turn me into a legal heroin junkie for 5 years . i have been clean for a year now. i am no longer in pain. i go to collage now. i have my life on track. you know what got me off that stuff? marijuana, it controls my pain, improves my quality of life. now, how about that pain management theory? but you know what lets cut romney a break. if our head were that far up are rear ends, we wouldnt be able to see the light either. VOTE RON PAUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  66. I believe that our politicians have lost site of what our forefathers tried to teach this country. In God We Trust. Not… God give us his guidelines forefathers in a book called The Holy Bible. So what do our elected officials do they ignore what God says about almost everything including our Spiritual,Physical and Political lives…

For Example “Israel must return to its 1967 borders,” US President Barack Obama is expected to declare on Thursday in his Middle East policy speech, Israeli daily newspaper “Yediot Ahronot” reports this morning. Obama will propose dividing Jerusalem between Israel and the Palestinian Authority but will rule out supporting any unilateral declaration of Palestinian independence.

From conversations over the past few days between Israel’s new national security advisor Yaakov Amidror and his predecessor Uzi Arad with senior figures in Washington, the newspaper claims to have details of the draft plan that Obama intends putting forward. In his speech on Thursday, Obama will outline the main principles of his Middle East approach, and call on Israel and the Palestinians to return to the negotiating table.

While Obama will call on the Palestinians refrain from declaring unilateral independence in September, he will also demand that Israel stop building West Bank settlements.

On the subject of Jerusalem, he will say that from the US point of view the city should be the capital of two state that live alongside each other in peace. Obama will reportedly adopt the plan of former US President Bill Clinton in which Jerusalem’s Palestinian neighborhoods will be part of Palestine, and neighborhoods in which there is a majority of Israelis will be part of Israel.

And I will raise up for them a plant of renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the shame of the heathen any more. (Ezekiel 34:29)

    1) What is the Word of God concerning marijuana, or cannabis hemp ?
The hemp plant (scientific name: cannabis, slang name: marijuana) is but one of the many useful herbs “yielding seed after its kind” (Genesis 1:12, 29) blessed by God on the third day of creation for people to use in conjunction with our free will. The only place in the Bible where Cannabis was mentioned by name got switched into ‘calamus’ by the King James translators as part of a holy ointment (described in Exodus 30:23).

The Bible also predicted prohibition: “In the later times, some shall … speak lies in hypocrisy … commanding to abstain from meats which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.” (Paul: 1 Timothy 1-4) Nowhere in the Bible does it say people cannot grow, possess, use or even smoke cannabis or that hemp is bad. In fact, quite the contrary: “God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth.…To you it will be for meat.’ … And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:29-31)

    2) How was the cannabis plant used by people during Biblical times?
Cannabis was widely used throughout the world since earliest times. ‘Cana’ got its name from the same root word as “cannabis,” indicating that hemp was grown there. The Bible also describes a common way of preparing marijuana for medicinal use: “The Lord said …Afore harvest, when the bud is perfect and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks and take away and cut down the branches.” (Isaiah 18:4-5)

Cannabis was traditionally used in 12 different ways: as clothing, paper, cord, sails, fishnet, oil, sealant, incense, food, and in ceremony, relaxation and medicine. And it was written, “On either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare 12 manner of fruits, and yielding her fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” (Rev. 22:1-2)

The leaves and flowers of cannabis are well known for their medicinal value, and the Thracians Scythians and Zoroastrians were just a few of the groups that were using cannabis socially during Jesus day.

So we need Honest Politicians who care about our well being not the Almighty Dollar….

  67. George Washington. – “make the most of the Indian hemp seed and sow it everywhere”
Thomas Jefferson – “Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth and protection of our country”
Henry Ford – ” Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making and the mines which required ages to lay down , if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products I’m the annual growth of hemp fields”

  68. Rick perry is who should be president he is for the states to have power back and not for a big goverment. Also, the majority of the reason we want medical marijuana legal Is for the patients but Ron Pauls views on some medical issues are ridiculous.

  69. Mark has a good point – the drug companies all have lobbyists in Washington. Why don’t we have the same? With 15 states on the medical marijuana bandwagon, you’d think we should darn well be able to do something, regardless who is President.

  70. As much as I am all for legalization it will not happen as long as major drug companies have their hands in the government because there are thousands of drugs being made for many ailments that medical pot can treat far better and with no addictive side effects and marijuana has far less detrimental side effects …I mean wtf is an anti-depresant for when a common listed side effect is may cause depression ….they want us all on drugs just there chemically made drugs from labs from drug dealers like Bayer they don’t want us growing our own meds in the back yard or going to farmer john across town they want money and want us the people to depend on and need them when the government really needs its people I am sorry but t brave soldiers of battles our national anthem reflects on are turning in their graves saying what America has become is exactly what they fought and died to get away from ….America needs to get back to its roots and constitutional values before foriegn countries are teaching there children how America fell to its own corrupt sword in there world economics classes

  71. 4 people have died overdosing on prescription pot pills, but that`s ok as long as it isn`t that leafy shit you can`t overdose on. these idiots [except paul] are all dumber than dog shit. All those idiots have to do is regulate it like beer and wine.

  72. And further more I am a very big supporter for organizations promoting legalization but there are some larger issues at stake in this next coming election

  73. Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman are the only two candidates running for president that support the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE. The others running will continue on the battle of MARIJUANA PROHIBITION and the erosion of our rights. If the others get in, they will be the new puppet of the 21ST CENTURY INQUISITORS and hide behind the wall of MARIJUANA PROHIBITION and FEDERALISM and BIG BROTHER. Step by step, inch by inch, we are being led into a TOTALITARIAN SOCIETY with a NEW WORLD ORDER GOVERNMENT protecting the gate on their WALL OF THE ORWELLIAN MENTALITY.

  74. The fundamental thing you need to understand about Ron Paul is that because we have been accustomed to this “mainstream” way of thinking as of recent in our history, his ideas sound radical at first. But the natural progression of everyone who comes to like him always comes when they start to do more research. For example, to many, legalizing drugs sounds radical, but as people start to research the real issue in depth, they find that it’s actually a much more sensible policy.

Apply this to things such as war overseas, or Social Security or Dept. of Education. Bringing our troops home, privatizing SS, and eliminating the Dept. of Education all sound extremely radical at first. But when you start to do more research, you find the opposite, in which 1. Interventionism and militarism and forced regime actually make us less safe by promoting hatred around the world (The CIA coined the term “blowback” research it) 2. That Social Security is already bankrupt, Chile has a much better system. They privatized their SS, forcing people to save their own money, and it’s thrived (research it) and 3. That we had no Dept. of Education before 1970. People act as if getting rid of it will “end education”. In reality, states are fully capable of running their own education systems, when you get the Feds involved in things like education, you get bureacracy and things like ‘No Child Left Behind’ (utter failure).

My point is this. If you like Ron Paul on war and drugs, don’t let his other issues push you away. He has been studying this stuff his entire life and there is a reason he says it. The Constitution clearly states that the role of the Federal Government is to protect the people and their liberties, keep a border, and keep a strong national defense. The Founders were smart enough to know that even though we may have good intentions, when the Feds get involved in things, it leads to lost efficiency and much more corruption. Ron is all for states doing their own thing because he understands that localities and states are much more accountable to their people then Washington DC. So please, do some more research and I guarantee you you’ll eventually come to the same conclusion I have, and that is that Ron Paul is for real, he knows his stuff, and you may have different viewpoints on certain topics (as do I), but out of the awful two party system, he is the only one actually telling us the truth, and I’ve been studying this man for 5+ years. So please, this country could be on the verge of collapse, our standard of living will go down, and he is the only one talking about our debt and the Fed, etc… Give him all your support and let’s actually put an honest man back in the White House since JFK.
Ron Paul 2012, end the wars, end the war on drugs, end the fed!

  75. So we have Ron Paul, who is for legalization, and Huntsm.an, who wont actively seek legalization, but pretty much wouldn’t slow or stop its progress… I’m thinking Huntsman would be a good choice here

  76. Obviously most of these guys are saying what they think people want to hear, and obviously most of these guys have their heads up where the sun doesn’t shine!!! Ron Paul sounds like the only one who makes some sense which is the first time I’ve heard any such thing coming from a Republican! No offense Republicans, it’s just that I don’t often listen to hypocrisy because it’s a waste of my time!!

  77. OK…what’s going on here?

Just the other day…and for years before that NORML had a letter from Gingrich supporting medical marijuana. Now it is gone…scrubbed by NORML?If so…why? It was very helpful to me showing what a hypocrite he is.

[Editor’s note: Scrubbed?? You’re too paranoid. A search on the word ‘Gingrich’ on NORML’s webpage quickly retrieves the 1982 NEJM letter from Gingrich supporting medical cannabis:

    http://norml.org/library/medical-marijuana-reports/item/newt-gingrich-s-letter-supporting-medical-marijuana

By 1992, Gingrich claimed he never wrote a letter to the NEJM…so much for the ‘historian’ who can’t recall his own history.]

  78. Gingrich has also said the the founders would be “more violent” against marijuana growers than the current administration has. What he doesn’t realize is that the founders grew it themselves! Hah!

Anyways, Ron Paul 2012 people. Do your research. Don’t trust the idiot box. He sounds radical at first, but as you do more research you find out he is the only honest one! Get on youtube and watch him speak – you can tell he is the only politician telling it like it is in a long time. And for all you progressives and Independents: Please become a blue republican (google it) and register R for one year to vote for Ron, please, he needs your help! If you Dems and Inds. dilute the Republican vote, we can overcome this huge media push against him! Youtube: “Ron Paul Joe Rogan” and “Ron Paul Jon Stewart”! Even Bill Maher supports him!

  79. i dont care what any one says ron paul should be elected because any one who dosent support legalization wants the cartels and drug dealers rich and we could take 5 billon pounds off the street today and it will still be there tomarrow still aint goin no where so do somthing smart and take away achool stop sellin that to are kids and killing them selling achool is genocide in my opinion keep on fighting normal

  80. Well the only problem is that no matter if you vote for Paul doesn’t mean he’ll be able to sway the other members of our government to allow medical marijuana. He can propose a bill but I don’t see Congress or the Senate going along with it.our best bet is at the state level change the law here and get enough states to take action and the feds will have a tough time

  81. This is for the people who just don’t understand Ron Paul, and think some of his ideas are “crazy.” To many thinking adults, Ron Paul is far from crazy, he just tells the truth. MOST people can’t handle the truth. And it is not necessarily their fault, they are VICTIMS of a mainstream media that is giving them a hard sell sales pitch, instead of reporting the news.

But what is crazy about Ron Paul?

    1. He wants to end all the wars and bring our troops back home. The mainstream would have you believe that this is “unsafe.” The MSM is also concerned that Ron Paul is soft on Iran and does not want to start another war.

It is hard to believe that the public agrees with any politician that wants to increasingly engage is offensive wars — all for contracts and insiders, not at all defensive in nature. More and more, the USA has become a war mongering danger to the rest of the world. Some countries must be scared as hell wondering if they are next on the list to be hammered by the USA war machine.

America should be a beacon of freedom and peace in the world, instead she has become a dangerous predator in her attempt to cover up her abuses and mistakes. America needs to bring her troops home and clean up her own economic mess. Our leaders should be looking for ways to make friends rather than make enemies around the world. Ron Paul’s foreign policy would be a huge benefit to world peace. And ultimately America, not to mention the rest of the world, would be much, much safer.

    2. Ron Paul plans to cut big government the first year by closing down a lot of Fed bureaucracies like the Dept of Education or the Environmental Protection Agency. A lot of people see this as crazy. Ron Paul asks Americans to take responsibility for their own lives. Unfortunately most people want a “free lunch” and they want government (or someone else) to take care of them. It is lazy and morally bankrupt to expect your neighbor to give you a hand if you are not even helping yourself. This is age old wisdom, “Don’t give a man a fish, teach him to be a fisherman.”

    3. Ron Paul wants to cut a trillion dollars the first year. Government is the only one that can spend all that they want with a seemingly endless credit card. This has created such a mess that it will destroy the work and savings of the American people through continual currency devaluation and eventual crash. America is hurting her own currency by racking up trillions of dollars of debt, while sending businesses and jobs overseas. Trillions and trillions of derivative abuses by TBTF mega banks have also diluted our dollar into oblivion. We NEED to address our economy with age old sound economics, or we will be totally broke soon and cast into 3rd world status, or worse. That is why are leaders are passing NDAA bills and building FEMA camps. Any thinking adult can see that American is not addressing her internal problems and we are headed for disaster. Ron Paul is the only person who gets it; or rather Ron Paul is the only one telling the truth. And the liars and self-deceivers can’t stand it.

Don’t listen to MSM, listen to yourself. Vote Ron Paul 2012.

  82. Hey peeps. Hemp grows in alot of places still. Along the RR tracks. It has no potency. That kind of hemp isn’t and wasn’t smoked with much effect if at all. Just sayin

  83. Lets not be dumb f@#%s!

The republican nominee will be either Mitt Romney or Ron Paul. So read those two and decide! You can have Ron Paul who respects your choices. Or Romney who believes he can make better decisions on how you conduct your personal life than you can. By the way he also believes the “Magic Underwear” he wears will protect him from all harm and that Black people exist so Satan can have representation on earth.

So once you’ve made your choice make sure you vote! If you are a democrat or whatever other than republican and your state doesn’t have an open primary. Go down to your voter registration office switch to the republican party so you can vote in your states primary.

Do this even if you intend to vote for Obama in the general election. You can always switch back right after the primary if being a republican makes you feel dirty 😉

  84. What poor choices, Ron Paul may be good for legalization, but he may drop dead of natural causes even before he does not get the nomination. i agree with uncle nicks post, I will look further into Paul’s plan if he does get nominated, but I think we will be stuck with the current loser. At least Colorado and other states seem to be making some headway on the issue. Peace.

  85. Vote for Jon Huntsman. Get the Federal Government our of Pot policy. With a balanced foreign policy, real tax reform, and some chance at bipartisan progress.

  86. Correction:
Vote for Jon Huntsman. Get the Federal Government OUT of Pot policy. With a balanced foreign policy, real tax reform, and some chance at bipartisan progress.

  87. I love it. I thought Newt was supposed to be the historian? I think there was some sort of law back in the 16 and 1700’s that you had to grow hemp. Seriously, it was required! He should constantly have someone shout “jackass” every time he speaks. Like from Happy Gilmore.

  88. I think Newt is toast but it still would be interesting to get that letter into the news cycle and see what happens
If he had any smarts left he should turn face and support cannbis who knows could get him back in the running and
Get us closer to a legal flower
But alas poor Newt is probably all tied up in the corporate
    Web to do anything sensible.

  89. Mr.Romney and others like him say that marijuana is a gate way drug, used to hook kids on harder drugs. Is beer used to hook kids on whiskey? There was a news story on kids that would put feces in a two litter plastic bottle, they would then put a balloon over the top of the bottle, like a hat.The kids would then put the bottle in the sun for a day or two and the balloon would fill with the gas that the feces produced. Then with the balloon filled they would pull the balloon off and huff the gas which made them hallucinate.Marijuana did cause this or any other use of harder drugs and until we are honest about this “war on drugs”we will continue to see more of the same needless acts of violence and feces huffing.Mr. Romney you are a self centered, self righteous, condescending person, but do not fill along, our government is full of those just like you.

  90. why do people think legalizing drugs will increase usage in young adults..thats just ridiculous. if drugs are regulated then consumers will have to show identification verifying they are of age. doctors dont even ask your age before the put you on addictive narcotics like zanax, morphine, oxycottin, or anything else that they think might help your problem.

  91. Jon Huntsman…Please the guy is so desperate he makes fake attack ads against him self in other candidates names hoping to be noticed. Again Romney and Paul are only two who can get the nomination Sanatorium has no money and organization, the rest have no support, money or organization. Huntsman in Iowa a state of 8 million people got 58 votes.

Ron Paul has been sponsoring or co sponsoring legislation to legalize weed for longer than many here have been alive.

If we don’t support him now we deserve the persecution we current suffer under!

  92. I will NOT vote for a candidate on a single issue, but folks who favor cruel prohibition and think the word god on our money refers only to their interpretation of the word have two strikes against against them in my book.

  93. Ron Paul 2012! Hes the only realistic front runner of the GOP party that would bring some common sense change to our marijuana policies. He is 100% in favor to give the states the right to regulate marijuana. He has co-sponserd a bill with Rep Barney Frank to get the feds out of the marijuana business. Paul also supports medical marijuana and hemp.

  94. Ron Paul 2012.FOR MY 3 children. For my brother in law in PRISON for a quarter bag of weed. For his 3 children under 4.For my mother on oxycodone for pain. For me and other farmers interested in growing industrial hemp.

  95. People are still throwing money on Ron Paul’s sinking ship? Not that I can fault them for it, most of Paul’s supporters have severe untreated mental illness, but it hurts me to see them throw their money away like that.

  96. The hell withe federal government. Vote legalization of mj at a state level to force a supreme court decision!

  97. Ron Paul was kicking ass and taking names in tonights debate regarding the war on drugs!!!! The rest of those plastic people just stood there with their jaws open.

  98. Mitt Romney is absolutely 100% against legalizing cannabis. But in tonights debate he said this on another subject – contraception:

“IF THE PEOPLE SAY IT SHOULD BE IN THE FEDERAL CONSTITUTION, THEN INSTEAD OF HAVING UNELECTED JUDGES STUFF IT IN THERE WHEN ITS NOT THERE, WE SHOULD ALLOW THE PEOPLE TO EXPRESS THEIR OWN VIEWS THROUGH AMENDMENT AND ADD IT TO THE CONSTITUTION”.

If you asked any devout Christian in any religion “OK, you have a choice: only one can be legal and only one can be illegal. Marijuana or contraception. Choose one.

The Christians would say “No brainer, legalize weed.”

I think we should hold Willard Mitt Romney to the same standard regarding weed.

  99. We are so sick and tired of this tag-your-it attitude when it comes to pick-a-president tactics; we use, when we want stuff fixed right away, quick fast and in a hurry?

When we are moving so fast; that, we miss hearing the birds or smell the flowers, give a dog or cat a pat; grab a hotdog, a pop and sit with a friend on the park bench, smoke a joint and enjoy each others company.

This government is not te government of 30 years ago, and we have come a long way since then, but to see our the government come crashing down on itself because betrayal, treason, lying, and Blue Collar Stealing; the injustice it has done on the mental, physical spiritual; and the emotional damage done to the people who have served them faithfully over decades.

This is what we get for not speaking up for our liberties…for Blacks and people of color, is the Constitution in your favor or in the favor of the Blue Bloods?

We know the rights of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights….they have never really protected the people of color or Blacks, except when it is all in their favor to do so; like pulling teeth, 4 at a time!

I love Ron Paul too, and I pray his wisdom, his medical know-how, and his sense of the Consitution will carry us and him over the Top! We just don’t want to ride any kind of horse into a trench…because of another plot or event before the trees, nobody saw it coming!

Take it with a grain of salt; We ALL have been in invisible shackles long enough, and enough is enough!!! TAKE BACK AMERICA THE LAND THAT WE ALL LOVE! FIGHT FOR YOUR LIBERITY AND THE PURSUTE OF HAPPINESS.

Let’s start WEEDING every controling cancers, out of our Government and out of our Country. Bless them that are going out, shut the door behind them! and be thankful and call on the name YahuShua Ha Meshiach! This is our Land!!!! YahuShua Ben YahuWah!

  100. To all you folks who talk a mean game: The ONLY candidate who gives legalization a chance is Ron Paul. He wants what we talk about, peace, freedom and less government. If you wimp out now you deserve what you get.

  101. with politicians it is hard to tell if what they say will turn into what they do (often it does not ). I think you should send a message that there is votes in being sensible about drugs but it may not bear fruits until after the election. Best to concentrate all efforts on full legalisation in CA – if you can achieve this then things will change quickly (worldwide !).
(I am not a US citizen but people all around the world people look to the USA for a lead on this matter and wish you all well in 2012 – thanks again)

  102. Personally i believe marijuana should be legalized. At its illegal stage now its already one of the biggest cash crops in the united states. Imagine the huge boost our economy would get if we had some strict rules laws and regulations to overlook it. First off it could create a huge demand in jobs for both citizens and the government. Think about it for civilians it would open up jobs for farmers, distributors, vendors and so forth. Now limit it to 400 plants growing operation. The amount of New jobs that would be available on the farming level alone could all but eliminate unemployment. Then on the government side you have New local jobs now opening up making sure all the farmers are staying within those standards. Make them go to school before they can start growing. Make it that they have to use all organic while growing, no need to add harmful chemicals to such a harmless plant. Put a 500 dollar growing permit that needs to be re-newed every year and then add a high tax ontop of all of it.
People are going to buy it regardless. Id rather have the money American citizens are spending to stay here. We can focus government forces on hard harmful drugs that have to be imported like cocane heroin and other harmful home made drugs like met and all. in the end i believe if we were to legalize it we could cut off alot of funding for mafia and cartels because all of a sudden this market they have their hands in won’t matter because you could go to your local dispenser buy it there and use the money made off of taxes from it we can use to get our national dept lowered. sadly the only way i see this happening is to get the old members of congress and senate out and getting in a younger generation who have their future to look forward to. not the ones who already have their retirement set up and are in there to get money for the companies that sponsor them.

  103. ron paul is a rodeo clown for the right.. he purpously delegitimizes issues like the fed and marijuana by saying crazy shit like ” if you elect me im gona tear apart the department of edication” hes just like those 911 guys who would accouciate them selves other people who beleave 911 was a false flag attack, then say crazy shit like ” it was a misssil” or ” it was a giant hologram man”…. I hate ron paul!!! there i said it, he is a fundementalist christen who even though he says the word liberty like its a nerveous tick he can get rid of, would push his views on you so fast it would make your head spin, if you elect him president, he will change his mind on pot” and probably everything else” not that hes much worse than obama at this point, I just know the man is a racist phony!!!!!

  104. Don’t worry Russel the department of edication is safe, it’s the department of education Ron Paul wants to cut 😉

  105. Truthfully, as much as I’d like to see marijuana legalized for ALL adults, I have to wonder how effective he would be if he hasn’t been able to persuade any meaningful change in all the years he’s supposedly supported legalizing marijuana.

And I’m not sure if I want ALL drugs legalized. I support mj legalization because mj is a sustainable habit, and I believe that access to mj would divert a lot of people away from seeking alcohol or hard drugs. But making easy access to hard drugs to me isn’t a good idea.

And, most importantly, I’m in favor of small government in a lot of ways, except when it comes to the environment, where I think government needs to stand up for the restivus against big oil and other big companies that would trash the environment for a profit.

Bottom line, I’ll take a protected environment over marijuana legalization, as if the two were mutually exclusive.

  106. update: recently sanctorum was caught by the ssdp group saying The government doesn’t jail non-violent drug offenders.

  107. MIT ROMNEY DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE. I GUESS ALL THOSE PEOPLE THAT TELL US THAT CANNABIS HAS HELPED THEM ARE LYING AND WILL SOON BE CRACK ATTICTS AND METH HEADS. WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP HE IS

I DID FIND ONE THING INTERESTING FROM RICK PERRY, IF YOU DONT LIKE GAY MARRIDGE OR POT DONT MOVE TO TEXAS, MOVE TO ONE OF THE MOST POPULATED AND FORWARD THINKING STATES IN THE UNION CALIFORNIA I WOULD GO OT ON THE LIMB HERE AND SAY THE AVERAGE IQ LEVEL IS HIGHER IN CAL. THAN TX

THIS IS REDUNDANT TO SAY, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE
HEARD. THE PEOPLE IN POWER THINK WE ARE THE MINORITY, WE ARE NOT, IF WE ARE NOT WE SOON WILL BE THE MAJORITY, JUST LIKE THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, IT IS AN IDEA WITH MOVEMENT THAT WIL ONLY INCREASE. WE HAVE TO SHOW UP AND VOTE. AFAIN AND AGAIN UNTILL FREEDOM IS RESTORED.

  108. I dont think that Ron could abolish the Fed,but he could certainly audit the Fed. He definitely could help repair and reconstruct the dam. And unlike all the younger hatchlings that are respectively worrying about their reputations and futures…Ron has already been their and done that.
The convictions are already in place. Now it’s a matter of inacting them.

By the way, ABC is still too scared to even show a clip of Ron…unlike Romney or Newt…so sad, pathetic and PREDICTABLE

  109. It is a pity how his legislation is bottled up in Lamar Smith’s house committee stillborn!

  110. The simple fact is all politicians need money. If it comes from Big Pharma and drug cartels, it doesn’t matter. Whoever has the money and power gets the laws and policy agreements they want. The only way to oppose these groups is to amass more money and power. Don’t think, for a moment, that the drug cartels aren’t heavily investing in American politics to keep the status quo. Stick together! Write letters!! Invest in your own freedom!!!

  111. To all of you mouthing Ron Paul you are fucking stupid he is the smartest and most honest person we have ever had in politics and he actually wants to get something done. If there are too many of you stupid people out there Mitt Romney is going to get elected and 4 more years will be just enough to finish our country off for good its already so bad it will be almost impossible for even Ron Paul to fix it. So if your not voting for Ron Paul because your waiting for things to be magically fixed by some hero you are going to be waiting a long while. Come on this is our last chance guys!

  112. By the time I was done reading this I was red. Newt Gingrich is an idiot and Jefferson and Washington would laugh at him for trying to run for anything. I would really like to kick these guys in the balls. They are nothing but more political douches. I don’t see how anyone could vote for anyone other than Ron Paul the guy sticks out like a sore thumb he actually reminds me of real people and not someone that was invented by a panel of experts.

  113. A president doesn’t need to change drug laws to make leeway into State Regulation. The President can simply decide where his cabinet heads concentrate their efforts. The Gov’t doesn’t enforce their.own immigration law. They can simply not prosecute, or investigate MJ offences, unless they lead to other more onerous drugs that lead to prosecution.

  114. Mitt’s been my boy for the past four years, until i found out his ugly inaccurate views of Mary Jane.

  115. yea, we are all screwed…our need of this freedom will never be had folks..it will never end…our government will continue to screw its people over its own selfishness..i think obama changed his tune because he got schooled from the buinessmen who run this country. pure an simple folks…oh caanada….

  116. “Let states decide” has been said many times before, including by Obama. Yet the Federal Government continues to raid dispensaries which are legal under state law. None of these candidates are stating they will keep anyone out of jail. State marijuana decriminalization laws are routinely violated by state police anyhow. NY is the biggest example of that. Without a Federal law legalizing either medical or recreational use, there will be no factual or lasting progress.

  117. “Q: As a champion of family values and keeping America strong, would you continue to destroy families by sending non-violent drug offenders to prison?

Santorum: Uh, wow. The federal government doesn’t do that.”

Everyone that has a family member in prison for drug only charges please send him a letter.
What is wrong with these people? Romney didn’t even know what industrialized hemp is and Gingrich doesn’t think we are citizens. Not citizens just a bunch of animals might as well gas em’ like the Nazis did to the Jews. How do you deal with these people NORML I don’t see how you can get anywhere when the people you are dealing with are ignorant and brainwashed or they are purposefully turning a blind eye. I am sick of it I hate politicians they think everyone should be just like them.

  118. Everyone here has one thing in common, yet after reading every comment many believe some things that are totally false and that is not their fault. The media is doing their job, but they are NOT doing it for us, period!

So many people freak out because Ron Paul wants to eliminate the Dept of Education, you think that is insane and I can understand that. BUT, I would respectfully request you ask someone who has been a teacher for a long time if that would be good or bad. Everyone of them are going to tell you the same thing, it is a pure waste of money and should be eliminated cause its driving down the quality of education. Many people freak on his foreign policy and again, media is doing ITs job, so let me help you understand WHY we will never get out of this war mentality by ourselves.
    http://www.ganjapages.com/home/tek/videos/video/102-watch-before-vote-ron-paul-foreign-policy-very-eye-opening-must-see.html

Many people believe he is a racist, understandable, his voting record does not reflect this though, although many people think because he did not support the Civil Rights Act that it confirms he is one.

Its easy to see how you believe this but the Civil Rights Act which is Federal is dictating what every state must do and this is the very thing that is also tripping up Medical Marijuana and how they say Federal Law trumps State Law.

He is against it because as he says with many things, the Constitution does not grant the Federal Government the power to either write or enforce such a law. He is not against the intended result, he is against the Fed giving itself power the Constitution specifically did not grant it.

Many people think he is crazy because of his believe in regards to Medical care and on this one I would ask you. Who would know more about how Government intervention has effected the quality of the Medical Establishment, someone who has been a Doctor for 50 years? or someone who is … whatever you are. Please understand I do not mean to offend anyone at all when I say this though.

I have never been incredibly political because frankly they all are crooks, thieves and cons who say whatever you want to hear so they can do whatever they want.

Every year I would vote but its also always been a lessor of two evils.

In late 2006 however I saw a Ron Paul Banner and that was my first exposure to him, I did do a bit of research and was shocked, I saw many of the same things above that freak out everyone, but I did something different.

I continued to research deeper and the more I found the more I could like. By the time the election came around I was as many call us, a Paulbot.

I have probably spent 2000 hours researching this man now. Trust me I know how insane this sounds but that is how us Paulbots work. Besides I am online all day as I work in Information Technology.

If you are not for Murdering innocent people all over the world and making the Rich even Richer as we foot the Bill, I hate to tell you, you are left with Ron Paul and anyone running on the Libertarian Platform.

If your not ok with the way things are and would like to end the Status Quo, you again have only those two choices, Ron Paul or the Libertarian Party.

Ending the Drug Wars, Same choice.

Bringing back our liberties and freedom, it is the same answer again.

However if you want someone who truly understand economics, has predicted every bubble and economic hick-up we have had you only have Ron Paul.

Almost 30 years in office, never one voted for a Unbalanced Budget.
    Never voted to Raise Taxes.
Did not vote for the Patriot Act.
Has never voted to increase funding of the war on drugs.

I agree looking at him if you do not fully understand his philosophy it could be easy to confuse his vote for meaning he is for or against something you might have issue with, but ask yourself this. Did the founding fathers want our Federal Government to have these powers? cause if they didn’t he voted No, guaranteed.

Anyone who has questions about him I offer my knowledge and will be happy to point you to the source of that answer, I will help you do your research. My goal is not to tell you want to think, its to make sure that you DO think and that you do so for yourself. I have researched him a lot and I will admit, there are a few things even I do not 100% like, but that number is smaller than what I LIKE about all other candidates combined.

We can not afford at this time to pass up the opportunity as a nation that we have. To have a TRUE STATESMAN like him, we would have a real leader. He won’t pander or sell out, 30 years in office should be more than enough proof, he is the only person who has a hope of beating Obama but frankly I would rather keep Obama than let one of the other republicans take office because they all can’t wait to start WWIII.
Please I implore everyone of you who are on the fence, spend the time and do your research, don’t read fox MSNBC, CNN and almost all of the Main Stream Media, they are owned by the Establishment and they fear Ron Paul. Cause he will free us from them and their control.

Is Peace such a bad thing to hope for?
Is Freedom something you can do without?
Is Liberty not something worth fighting for, I believe it is.
The only thing you have to fear is what they will do when they see we know what is really going on. By then its to late.

If you disagree with him I will respect that but lets see the Real Reasons, not the ones the media has planted for you. If you love your country DO your research because you may not realize it but we are losing this once great nation and those at the top are profitting from the actions that are causing it.
    Thank you
    tek

  119. Both my parents were teachers for over 30 years and they seem to believe eliminating the department of education is about the worst policy idea ever put forth. I think I’ll believe their experience over Ron Paul’s. The actual reason education has eroded in this country is because it isn’t a priority. Of course we all value our own educational opportunities and those of our loved ones, we just don’t seem to give a rat’s ass about the level of education our society as a whole possesses. It serves us all for everyone to get the same chances we did. I really don’t believe an individual state or school district should be able to decide creationism or intelligent design belongs in a science classroom. Educational standards are there to separate fact from fiction, and I’m pretty thankful for them.

  120. After reading in full former FED DEA Admin Law Judge Francis Young’s 2 year study, and “Findings of Fact”, regarding his decision to reschedule medical marijuana, and why. How can anyone deny sick people the right to use this therapeutic, and safe medicine that their doctor’s recommend, unless they’re brain dead, or paid-off in one way or another. Its no wonder the only candidate who supports medical marijuana from this list of Republican nominees for President is a Physician, Dr. Ron Paul.

  121. People need to be reminded about all the positives of cannabis hemp (sustainable, fewer/no pesticides, strongest plant fibre, paper, plastics, medical, nutritional, etc.) just as they were reminded about the positives of alcohol when it too was under prohibition. Immediately reminded also of all the negatives prohibition serves to support:
-gangs and gang related student drug dealers in every school everywhere
    -higher taxes
-forfeiting billions in annual public revenue
    -forfeiting numerous health advantages
-money laundering, terrorism and the -corruption of officials in essential industries of banking, law, politics and real estate
    -radical prohibitionists

The choice is clear: support legitimacy or support crime and corruption through prohibition.

    “Prohibition is the criminal gateway”

  122. @lockedoutoftheshed, i’m complelled to agree with the comment about Obama changing his tune, i also beleive if he were to be elected to a 2nd term that tune would change again, I mean he went to school in hawaii and admitted to smokin and was for decriminalization during his election campain, only after his 1st presidential briefing (info very few ppl have ever been privy to) did he completely dismiss the idea, my feelings about him are somethin like he can’t speak to loudly about contivertial topics tryin to get re-elected, in the end he gets my vote again anyway, he’s the best thing thats happened to this country since Bill Clinton, he’s been faught my the house harder than any other president in history and it’s simply because the majority of republican senator and representatives are prejudice, they won’t do what some black man tells them and our country is suffering because of it

  123. did any of you people even read this? RON PAUL! is clearly the candidate for individual freedom, he always has been and he has a record to prove it, unlike Berry. Obama is not the Knight in shining armour for your cause, Ron Paul is, please wake up and join the Revolution. He cannot win without the independents, spread the word. Obama is a Manchurian candidate, he supports Wall street with bailouts and he will continue the wars because he is part of the Banker/pharma/military industrial/new world order machine. Don’t you people recognize this yet? Obama passes NDAA and you think he will decriminalize pot? his puppet masters don’t like competition and he isn’t about to go off the reservation. Ron Paul is the one and only hope, do you really care that much that he has an “R” next to his name that you will blindly Obey for 4 more years?

  124. dude the dea has been helping cartels launder drug money and has been shipping cocaine for them. just check out the news. hold tight normal. it sounds like like the lid of something really major is about to be blown off. im getting the shivers!!!

  125. Don’t get your hopes up about a second-term Obama getting around to addressing the war on weed. It always seems some bigger crisis comes along and trumps everything else. Look out for a war with Iran to blow the occupy movements and other progressive agendas completely off the table.

  126. Why the HELL would someone vote Obama for re-election. For God’s sakes he signed the NDAA into law on New Years Eve, behind everyone’s back. The NDAA gives the military the right to detain US citizens WITHOUT A TRIAL. Are you kidding me. He just signed away one of our most fundamental rights. Who cares about pot thats pathetic and rdiculous. Thats criminal, Orwellian, something ud see in Nazi Germany, oh wait no theyd just do it they wouldnt even put it on paper. He also “promised to 1. stop the feds raiding, 2. end the wars, and 3. restore civil liberties… and what does he do? 1. Continues raids 2. EXPANDS wars 3. Signs NDAA and Patriot Act BACK INTO LAW! WAKE UP PEOPLE. Ron Paul is for real, End the wars, legalize marijuana, restore civil liberties!
    Ron Paul 2012

  127. What I would like to say is Mr.Gingrich ya better check into Washington before you make a statement about Marijuana, first of all it used to be mandentory that all households in the colony days to plant 1 handful of hemp seeds for textile purposes.Second Mr. Perry if you can’t see the rise in prescription use in our states then you are blind the PILL DOCTORS are running crazy in our state and the Dr.’s just keep on write prescriptions ya go in they do not want to talk to you they just keep ya doped up on Pills.Texas prisons and jails are full of people it is a way to keep the $$ rolling in as more and more folks on probation for small amounts of pot 2,3,4,5,years of paying your local county Gov.just to keep the status quoe .Is what I say it is MY LIFE and MY BODY and I know what helps me and what hurts me.Children on Pills people selling Pills this is a Pill Generation and it is sick to know that schools just want your Children to be ZOMBIES at school because of PILLS.we never had this problem when i was younger ADD,ADHD,Bipoler ,or anything else that these kids seem to have now WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!

  128. J-Bob says, “…i’m complelled to agree with the comment about Obama changing his tune, i also beleive if he were to be elected to a 2nd term that tune would change again…he’s the best thing thats happened to this country since Bill Clinton, he’s been faught my the house harder than any other president in history and it’s simply because the majority of republican senator and representatives are prejudice, they won’t do what some black man tells them…”

Hey J-Bob, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Obama’s whole platform for getting elected the first time was his promise of change from the Bush era. Any thinking adult can see that Obama has just continued (and ramped up) George Bush’s agenda. A moron can see that.

I think it is a cop-out to suggest that the reason the House is not working with Obama is because he is black. The reason these idiots aren’t working together is because these politicians are 1) out of touch with the people, 2) out of touch with the problems facing American, and 3) too concerned with carrying their party’s agenda rather than solving real problems.

I think the real reason Obama flip flopped on marijuana legalization, and other issues, is because once he got into office, someone sat him down and showed him the real score and told him the way its going to be. Obama’s ‘change’ after he got elected is likely because the establishment has something on him and are blackmailing him. I really think that one of the reason’s he’s been so hard on medical marijuana (especially dispensaries) is because of some deal he must have made with the pharmaceutical companies to go along with his health care plan. Something like, ok Obama you want health care support from us, get rid of those damn dispensaries too. Obama has done more to wreck medical marijuana than Bush ever did. Bush just raided a few businesses; Obama is trying to shut the whole think down!

Wake the fuck up. Obama does not care about you and me. Obama has a NWO agenda. Obama is not going to become pro cannabis in his second term; you are dreaming pal.

Don’t be a chump, vote Ron Paul 2012!

  129. Unless you believe that being American means getting everything you can get and never mind if you hurt anyone else in the process, then Ron Paul is the only choice currently available. He is the only person who is truly trying to do the right things for all of us and our country. He seems to be the only person who understands what liberty and freedom really mean.

So, give him your vote whether or not you believe he can actually win. He actually can if we actually vote for him and don’t give in to the nay-sayers who claim he’ll never get elected. That mentality just leads to that result.

  130. There is only one person running for President who has consistently sported our rights, that’s Ron Paul!

Even Obama has been proven to only be telling us what we want to hear. Obama promised not interfere with states that legalize weed. Then he sent in his feds to crack down on California dispensaries.

Ron Paul has stood before his own party on national television and been booed for supporting us. Still he has never wavered.

Seriously what candidate has EVER supported us more?!?!

If we don’t support him now we deserve the drug war being waged against us!

  131. technically im unaffiliated but based on this information alon i would have to say ‘go paul’…cuz obama just hems & haws on th topic

  132. J-Bob your a complete idiot you know that Obama is a liar and will say anything to get elected but you are going to vote for him again. You are worse than the people that vote out of complete ignorance at least they have an excuse for electing a bad president but you know what your doing and even admit it. pathetic

  133. Ron Paul Our one issue is many issue’s. It’s about alot more than a buzz. We want to feed the world. Every mammal must get stoned. To your health.

  134. these politicians don’t get it. cannibis is an herb, heroin and cocaine are narcotics the pills your doctor perscribes are narcotics. seprate the herb from the narcotics and there’s no problem and the cartells are not making money off cannibis if it’s legal. Commercial hemp should have never been illegal do your homework so you can see how it all became illegal….education is the key politicians have no clue what they are talking about….it’s sad and frustrating the ammount of ignorance involved with this subject

  135. The only one with any sense about cannabis is RP.The problem is on other issues he’s dangerous. The Green Party now is perfect for progressives who want to end ” victimless crimes” like prohibition of drugs. We really need a multi-party system but the corporations won’t allow it. Too many to buy off.

  136. J-Bob, I agree completely. I noticed Obama changed after he was sworn in. It’s because the shadow government, the rich and multi-national corps reminded him of Kennedy. And he has kids. There’s nothing the “real” gov wont do to get their way. We need to occupy till the rich and powerful die.

  137. Heard newtginrich said he smoked in college yet at one point mentioned he wanted to kill anybody that even possessed marijuana.

  138. Im in Az we voted pot in 2x & still didnt let us have it (janet napolitNO was the gov) so I was almost brainwashed into Romney-but reading this, IM FOR PAUL!

  139. Jesus said to do unto others as we would have them to do unto us. None of us would want our child or grandchild thrown in jail with the sexual predators over marijuana. None of us would want to see an older family member’s home confiscated and sold by the police for growing a couple of marijuana plants for their aches and pains. It’s time to stop putting our own family members in jail over marijuana.
If ordinary Americans could grow a little marijuana in their own back yards, it would be about as valuable as home-grown tomatoes. Let’s put the criminals out of business and get them out of our neighborhoods. It’s time to let ordinary Americans grow a little marijuana in their own back yards.
We can email our Congressperson and Senators at http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml to discuss HR 2306, the proposed Federal law that will get the Federal government out of the marijuana business and let states make their own laws.
And a big THANK YOU to the courageous, freedom loving legislators, governors, and countless others who are working so hard to bring this through! You’re doing a great patriotic service for all of America!

  140. Ok folks so what are we to do when we see Obama and Romney on the ballot? Write in Ron Paul and see the worst of the two get in because you wanted to make point? I Already did that with a better man than both of them (Nader) and got Bush.
I guess the best bet is to concentrate on finding pro cannabis candidates running for the house or senate vote for them, then move to a state with decriminalization laws.

  141. The media wants you to think you can only vote for the ones they offer you. They are making millions to tell you this.

Dr. Ron Paul’s success is causing them alot of problems.

They tried not mentioning him, then telling you he can’t win. They say we need a canidate that can beat Obama.

I don’t think that’s going to be that hard.

I am not fooled by any of this.

If they can get you to vote for either party instead of the canidate, they have done their job for the status quo, and will continue to get their millions. But, if they have lost that power, they won’t be able to demand as much money next election cycle.

To vote for someone that can beat someone else, is falling for the status quo.

To vote for someone just because they are democrat or republican is just what they want. This is what the beast thrives on.

If they don’t “let” Ron Paul on the ballot, I refuse to roll over and wet my self saying oh well there is nothing I can do.

I will write my vote in, and it WILL be for Ron Paul.

Many will say I have wasted my vote.

No, a wasted vote is one that is given to the status quo!

  142. Governor Romney:

Given the mountain of evidence that not only proves cannabis prohibition was founded on lies, but that it is also one of the safest and most helpful substances known to man, why do you continue to perpetuate one of the greatest social injustices in history by buying into the lies and sustaining the status quo of cannabis prohibition?

  143. this is getting bad. Who do you think came up with the SCA. A republican. No one in the republican party will ever let mj become legal, even Ron Paul. He is giving lip service the same as any other canidate. Obama may not be perfect but he will be a lame duck pres and just may give us medical. (one step at a time) Yes, obama did sign the NDAA but it won’t be law until its heard on the supreme court. He hasen’t got away with everything just yet. The power to change mj policy comes from congress. Look at your local reps. If congress dosen’t want it to happen, it won’t, no matter what a pres wants.Just step and look at everything!!!!

  144. so far after reading all these ive come to the conclution that they are stupid ideas marijuana is healthy and safe and if you dont like it because you think its a danger then ur fuckin stupid not one person has ever died from an overdose or a chemical reaction of smoking pot the only sensable candidate here is Mr.Ron Paul because he understands the people that smoke and that it should be legalized. but it should be legalized not only for medical use but for recreation as well because what are you doing? your smoking big deal people smok ciggarets and those are alot worse i mean they cause cancer people. and what does marijuana do? NOTHING!!! it makes u feel good its just like alcohol. but alcohol was once prohibited at one point as well until the government finaly wised up and legalized it and helped us to end the depression so if by doing that it helped end depression imagine what legalizing marijuana would do i mean there is 7 billion dollars flioating around unacounted for because of prohibition. another thing to look at is how many deaths a year are from other drugs including alcohol. and how many deaths are there from marijuana? NONE so you all need to wise up and look at the facts its not hurting anybvody when we smoke and it would help this country out alout in these hard times. so legalize it

  145. Ron Paul is the only candidate who sticks to his guns. He doesn’t pander for votes. Listen to this man speak, he is a voice of reason in a time of corrupt politicians. I really do believe he is the one we can trust. Also the department of education is a huge failure, states can do a much better job with education than politicians in Washington.

Seriously people, Ron Paul is the only one who will let states decide their drug laws, get government out of the business of regulating internet – this is no joke see the bill called ‘sopa’ and he speaks out against a bill that recently passed under Obama called national defense authorization act which is a terrible bill that allows American’s suspected of terrorism to be locked up indefenitely without an attorney or a trial!!

Seriously if you really care about freedom I would recommend everyone to check out Ron Paul, not from the media but from Ron Paul himself or even his campaigns website and see what you think – RonPaul2012.com

    Peace

  146. For the people concerned that Ron Paul won’t get the GOP nomination and we will have no one to vote for, I think he will run as an independent as a last ditch effort. Ron Paul has already hinted on the Alex Jones show about something like this. I think the reason Ron Paul remains steadfast as a Republican is because he really believes in the party. So he is not telling the MSM about any other plans run; he seems to be focused 100% on getting the nomination as a mainstream Republican.

And I really think that that is very possible now. The mainstream Republicans are dropping like flies; the MSM has been pushing their little darlings, whether is was Perry, then Cain, then Newt, and now Mittens, but these people only last a couple of weeks or so. The Republicans are scared. They know it will be very tough to beat Obama with these clowns. Obama will easily be able to destroy any of these mainstream Republican nitwits in a debate. The only person right now that can beat Obama is Ron Paul. And I think the Republicans are starting to realize that.

So Ron Paul could get the nomination. The thing to keep in mind is that Ron Paul is rising in the polls even when these so called TV news channels are putting the lid on him. Ron Paul is much bigger than most people realize. Not only is he popular with the marijuana people, he is popular in the Liberty movement, the Tea party, with gun rights people, people against the banker bailouts, gold and silver coin people, survival people, 911 Truthers, Anti War people, small government people, anti NWO people, right to life people, young people, the list goes on and on. I really believe that if American politics was fair, and the media had real investigative reporters and give everybody fair and balanced equal coverage, Ron Paul would win by a landslide.

  147. gingrich is a jackass. george wasington was known to partake in his day. he wrote of it in his journals

  148. Watching CNN.Peirs Morgan is interviewing Newt Gingrich, asking him what animal he would be if he was an animal -childhood regression episodes about his parents blablabla.. Newt has placed close to last in the last 2 caucusus and Dr Paul has placed 3rd and second place in NH respectively, and their asking Newt what his favorite animal is!!!
    what the fuck?
Where is Dr Pauls interview. Why are they grooming Newt and not Paul? Something isn’t right here.

  149. We are screwed. I agree with Perry about the matter of Legalization should be left up to the states because of our 10th Amendment. I also agree with Ron Paul. We made alcohol legal during the Prohibition in the 30’s. While people say that Marijuana is a determent to health, they should look at the WHOLE pharmaceutical companies. “Aspirin is perfectly legal, but if you take 13 of them it will be your last headache.”

Santorum, Romney, Gingrich, and Huntsman. Oh lord. We’re screwed. Especially when it looks like the media is going to start pushing Romney a lot more then any other candidate.

  150. i love the responses from these fuckin idiots who know nothing about pot but say it shouldnt be legal….you are all ignorant fools…get educated! gateway drug? anyone who gives that response is fucking moron…how bout cigs and alcohol you fucking stupid retards! as an adult i should be able to choose what i put in my body…not have it decided by ignorant fucking morons such as yourselves….grow up…stop being sheep and maybe…just maybe you will get a little more educated………

  151. OCCUPY THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARIES!

Keep Romney as far away from the White House as we can!

Most States require you to register as a Republican to vote in the Primary.

    Register Here
    http://www.rockthevote.org/

48% of the New Hampshire Primary voters were non-Republicans. It works! Romney won Iowa by only 8 votes! Your vote can make the difference!
VOTE IN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR STATE!

  152. Their missing the point,,,this is a medical matter,,,its not about getting high,,its a quality of life thing.Dumbass!

  153. What we need to do is make it very clear that we will not vote Obama back into office in 2012 if his administration continues it’s current war on drugs and in particular marijuana. Not voting at all would give the Republicans an advantage. I suggest that someone, less vulnerable than me, posit a petition on https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions requesting signatures of those that will not vote for Obama in 2012 if the Republican candidate is Ron Paul or if he (Obama) refuses to make serious policy changes in regards to legalizing marijuana prior to the November elections. The White House, and presumably Obama, is cognizant of participation in these petitions and sends participants responses. I’ve received several. Perhaps the threat of voter revolt (hopefully by several hundred thousand) will make some waves and get his attention. I’m not pleased with Obama on a number of things but this seems like a defining issue. Please … someone do it! Ill gladly sign.

  154. Legalization of marijuana is not enough to make me want to vote for Ron Paul. Republicans are only interested in helping the rich and corperations. Obama has done nothing to help the cause. We must find intelligent Democrates to send to Washington and state capitals who will fix this economy.

  155. Obama has proven he’s full of crap so any promises he makes doesn’t really matter. The guy is a two faced liar. Say no to Obama 🙂

Ron Paul for real change and a person that does what he says

  156. I use marijuana for pain purposes. I broke my back and neck in a horrific accident years ago. I work 1 f/t job and 1 p/t job. It has not been a gateway drug at all. I am 50 years old and work for a large corporation. I have not collected one red cent of public assistance period ! So for those who say it keeps people from working and all that b.s you are clearly mistaken. Yes maybe there are some whom choose to lay around and not work etc , but maybe they are just lazy people and may have nothing to do with smoking pot. I work with and know many CEO’s of large companies who smoke pot daily and are productive citizens but everyone has their opinion.

  157. I think it’s funny how Gingrich said, “I think Jefferson or George Washington would have rather strongly discouraged you from growing marijuana…” when Washington and Jefferson both grew hemp; and the one of the originals of the Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper. Why are people who are so ignorant running our country??? And what is this bull about marijuana leading to harder drugs for kids? Like every single person who sells weed wants kids to do crack??? Come on, dude…when is the government going to stop putting everyone in a box and telling us how we are?

  158. The obvious choice for the pro-cannabis candidate is Ron Paul. What’s even better is that he is pro-freedom in general and would prefer that we have the freedom to use our money and our bodies in any way that does not violate any one else’s rights.

That is the reason he wants to get rid of the Dept of Education. He wants people to be free to choose their education. Who are you, or some bureaucrat, to decide what our children’s education should be like? Lord knows we don’t want the GOVERNMENT to be indoctrinating children but that’s what they have been doing for decades! Don’t you ever wonder why so much of the population, perhaps even you yourself, are so blindly Statist? Over a dozen years of propaganda will do that to you. Open you eyes, open your minds, and do not fear freedom. For the oppression of freedom is why we are all here in the first place. There shouldn’t be a NORML. There shouldn’t be a legalization movement. That we have to fear our fellow community members and hide our use/sharing/cultivation of a harmless plant is absurd and flies in the face of all that is moral and just in this world.

Dr. Paul cured my apathy. Let him do the same for you:

  159. People, here’s the difference: Ron Paul is a LIBERTARIAN, not a real Republican. He’s only caucusing with them so that he actually has a chance at getting elected because the sheeple at the polls don’t even know what the hell the Libertarian Party is! For shame, too – the Republican party only represents half of what’s good about Ron Paul’s political agenda and ideologies.

George Washington warned us when he left the Presidency that blind, vehement loyalty to a political party and its interests is the vehicle by which the young nation could be divided and conquered. Well, folks, either the man was a prophet or we’re all morons, because that’s exactly what the two-party system is doing to us. Who endorses Newt Gingrich? Large businesses and investment firms. Who endorses Mitt Romney? International corporations and large banks. Who (still, perhaps insanely) endorses Barack Obama? Labor unions and the benefit-catching proletariat, particularly because of the proposed bill that would ban corporate money from politics but leave union contributions untouched.

And then there’s Ron Paul…who will speak for him? Let’s start with every branch of the Armed forces, and finish with nearly every widely recognized socially liberal organization that exists. I think his endorsements speak for him – that is, when he (very rarely) isn’t making perfect sense all on his own.

One problem with Ron Paul caucusing with the Republicans is that he’s caucusing with the Republicans – meaning that, since the only people who are voting in the primaries are mostly those who are registered Republicans and therefore typically leaning anti-legalization anyway. His biggest asset – his libertarian perspective of promoting social freedoms and restricting the scope of government – may circuitously end up being his biggest downfall. I suggest each and every one of you get off your computer, right now, and go tell a Republican to vote for this guy. Hurry, because the primaries are right around the corner…

  160. Gary Johnson is running on the Libertarian ticket. He has beliefs similar to Ron Paul, including legalization of marijuana. He supported Ron Paul in the past. He was the governor of NM for two terms and was liked by both Democrats and Republicans. If Paul doesn’t get the Repub nomination put your vote towards Johnson.

  161. So what we have is Paul who I already knew wants it legalised,Perry who wants to leave it up to individual states which will not work for a number of reasons and Huntsnm wh is like I guess so or whatever.Paul is the best bet unfortunately I am doubting he wil nake it all the way to the wh althoug I wish he did.I’m alll for total legaisation across the board and will keep helping in fighting for it but right now my main agenda is for medicinal legalisation and not just stae by state,it doesn’t work,I want it nation wide

  162. Since Cannabis and the prohibition there of will continue into the future, the best one word education to teach everybody, especially risk takers is the several definitions of DISCREET.

  163. All Republican tap dancing aside, a President cannot legalize cannabis.
He can only call for it’s legalization.

It must be a legislative act of Congress. Fix your Congress members.

  164. If you folks EVER want to smoke without worry of the federal government destroying your lives you better get behind Ron Paul NOW. If we dont get him in for 2012 the next chance for smoking legalaly will be just after the complete collapse of the USA….if we’re lucky.

  165. “The major reason I support Ron Paul?

“The Federal Government’s been overstepping its Authority for a long time and nobody who’s run for President in over 100 years has saw fit to point out, remedy or attempt to correct this in any way, shape or form. The Press isn’t doing it’s job, in many cases its assisted in hiding the facts and is Guilty of neglecting what is not only it’s Right but also what many of us see as your obligation!”

It’s now granted itself the Authority to Round up anyone they put the ‘Terrorist label’ on, ship you off to Gitmo, without trial, No lawyer AND, they’re “legally prevented from allocating the funds” to bring you back IF they find out they’re wrong. You’re permanetly dissappeared, even Pinochet didn’t go there.

Since you’re so quick to dismiss him ask yourself this:
Is there any remote possiblity they may at some point decide to redefine or reinterpret Terrorist to include someone who shares values different than theirs?

If its a maybe, is it a insurmountable stretch to lump “questionable lifestyle’s and behaviors” into that label. Is it?

10 years ago did you think one day our Government would.
    1. Sanction the use of the military to round up US citizens.
    2. Stick them into a Jail outside of the USA.
    3. Prevent them from returning to the USA.
    4. Deny them their constitutional rights in the process
Cause they just did and again, the press is absent and silent.”

  166. my wife has ms and i have 5 different neuromuscular diseases such as fibromyalgia and rsd. the pain from these are intense. should i suffer or should i take two different kinds of morphine as prescribed by the VA

  167. @NMvoter: That’s exactly what I intend to do. I just wish (more than pretty much anything, even beyond having a million dollars fall from the heavens onto my couch) that people had greater exposure to the “minor” parties, especially the Libertarian party, because of how real and American their political values system is.

  168. WWJD?I’m absolutely sure Jesus Christ of
Nazereth will be voting for the good Dr.Paul.
He is the only one that can deliver our babies. He is the only one that can pilot this
great country of ours.He can mentor his son
Rand as vice president and we could have 16 years of PAUL.ProLifeProHempProPot of GOLD!
Dr.Paul could pay for real Social Security
with cannabis tax.Everyone on social security? In a since we all would be beneficiaries of cannabis.Bring home the Troops. Plow and plant the fields.Feed the World.Vote PAUL 2012!

  169. I think newt gingrich said a straight out lie about what george washington or jefferson would have done. The grew industrial hemp, and marijuana wasnt even considered slightly bad untill “reefer madness” came out

  170. I think those candidates that want to uphold the Federal “war on drugs” either just keep their heads in the sand OR are PROFFITING from the current Federal law. After reading some recent articles I’m starting to believe that pot might be a “super” drug that could cure or help alot of dieses & conditions. BUT if it was made fully legal ALL the MONEY that has been going into research would be lost and that ALL the politicians & people who profit from the research would lose out. I’ve ALWAYS felt that we probably DO have a cure for cancer and alot of other diseases but if it was made public the MONEY would be gone. Nevermind ALL the money that drug companies make on their “painkillers” & other DRUGS!! AND THESE IDIOTS like Romney & the others who still think pot is so terrible have NOT taken into consideration ALL the VIOLENT CRIMES that have been committed lately by painkiller addicts. YET THOSE drugs are still legal!!! And THAT’S because the drug companies & many in Washington are PROFFITTING from those drug sales!!!

  171. I have been suffering from chronic low back pain for more than 15 years. I recently underwent back surgery to try to “fix” the problem but so far after recovering for the past 4 months I am STILL in TREMENDOUS pain and all those “legal” drugs I have taken over the years have NOT helped. In fact they hurting me more than helping. I know the painkillers are killing my kidneys, pancreas and many other parts of my body. They also cause insomnia in me so I’ve been living in a WONDERFUL little catch 22 for MANY years. If I take the pills at night it takes the edge off but I am still up and still in pain. If I DON’T take the pills then I’m in even MORE pain & still awake. I have gone through just about EVERY type of “pain management” including “trigger point” injections, epidural cortizone shots, accupuncture, and many other types and NONE have helped me.

  172. Like someone once put it: The Democratic Party is the Party of “bad ideas” and the Republican Party is the Party of “NO ideas”! In my opion even though I am NOT political (or policically correct) (which I DON’T CARE) I think there should be a new party. The “ALL-AMERICAN” Party. A party that WILL bring back The Original Constitution NOT the “watered down” version that our “great government” has changed to suit THEM! BRING BACK OUR RIGHTS AS FREE AMERICANS!!! They call this the “Land of the Free”? NOT ANYMORE!!! I was born & raised in this country & I have said it for a LONG time now… “LOVE MY COUNTRY BUT HAVE A REAL PROBLEM WITH OUR GOVERNMENT”!!! AND if THIS makes me a terrorist… WELL I don’t know what to say.

  173. AND the Federal Government threatening State and local Governments IS considered TERRORISM!!! SO I think if the Feds are going to label people as terrorists because they smoke pot or DON’T agree with the Federal Government then they better go after themselves on the same charges! I HATE to say it but with they way things have been going I see a “Civil” or “Revolutionary” war comming RIGHT HERE in the good old USA!!!

  174. To Mitt: I find it hilarious and pathetic that he has no clue what industrialized hemp is.

To Rick S.: I think if he was to take a look at how many American people actually are for the legalization of cannabis, he’d see that he got his statement completely backwards.

To Newt: Washington was quoted to say “I want this plant[hemp] to be planted everywhere.” and both him and Jefferson grew it as well. Also, wouldn’t it make sense to take the money away from the cartels by putting the money into the American economy’s pockets rather than theirs?

To Rick P.: Although his stance on legalization is a negative, I do like his statements regarding the federal government law vs. states law. The first time I actually have liked my governor.

To Ron: I hope you’ll enjoy my vote for you in the upcoming election.

  175. I believe that legallizing marijuana would save the peoples tax money from being wasted on locking up none violent people. How many people are in jail for or carried before the court at our cost. When will the people get tird enough to say its enough.Legallize marijuana now.

  176. As much as I want cannabis re-legalized (believe me, it’s pretty much the only issue I care about at this point), I’m not a fan of Paul’s philosophy, and definitely not a fan of his followers. When they start assuring me that certain things will absolutely happen (because their idea of “President of the USA” must consist of totalitarian powers that will allow said changes without opposition) “Ron Paul WILL…” You don’t know that. You can’t guarantee that. Just stop.

  177. @2crudedudes: I agree with you. Speaking as a man of science, Paul’s views on Separation of Church and State and Gay Marriage, as well as a few others truly disgust me. Then there’s the fans of Ron…I get into more debates with them that I do any other candidate’s fan-boys. However, he is the better of a very bad situation. His record constantly shows him attacking REAL issues and pursuing them more than most all other options available for president. Ron Paul will NOT make everything perfect off the bat, but he will put in place transitional plans to at least point us in the right direction. Hopefully that’ll be a wake up call to most Americans to see “well since I was completely retarded about this subject, maybe I’m wrong about this too…” And start voting for the right person for office as opposed to red or blue.

  178. 2crudedudes, you obviously have don’t much research on Ron Paul. It is not about what Ron Paul WILL do, but rather what Ron Paul WILL NOT DO. He won’t use our troops in unjust, out of control, undeclared wars. The troops can be pulled back at anytime by the POTUS. He will not use the DOJ to shutdown Medical Marijuana shops in states that it was been voted legal (Obama shutting them down). He has no business in your personal live, and he will stay out of it. The changes to this country CAN be made, if the President hasn’t been bought and sold by the corporations (Check out how much money that Ron Paul gets from large corporate donors compared to Obama and or Romney)

  179. Thanks, now we all know where the top Republicans stand on Marijuana reform. Join us next week when we put the same question to officers of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

  180. Mitt Romney doesn’t even know what industrial Hemp is. Gingrich things Washington “would have been” against it. The reality is that Washington ordered his gardeners to “Spread the Indian Hemp seed far and wide,” in 1794. Was Washington just excited about the industrial fiber production? I think not…

  181. i am just curious where all the common sense people went in this world. who the hell let these people run for office. i am scared for our future

  182. Hasn’t anybody noticed that even though we number in the Tens of Millions we seem to be completely unheard?

What is it we are doing so wrong that allows them to continue to terrorize us so easily?

At what point does the desires of millions outway the greed of a few?

Words is how we got to this point. It is easy for them to dodge the arrows of a few at a time. Now is the time to let lose with a million fold.

The only canidate, Including Obama, that has put action to his words. By putting his second signature on H.R.2306 he has commited himself to his word.

It only seems appropiate to put action behind action.

    Vote Dr. Ron Paul!!!

  183. Honestly, I think one of the main issues is the confusion between people’s personal decisions and what is actually directly caused by Cannabis. Because indirect blame is a bullshit way to justify the illegality of Cannabis.

So on the gateway drug thing, in my opinion, it’s not the marijuana itself that becomes a gateway to harder drugs. It’s that person’s own recklessness and stupidity. I have a bunch of friends that have never done anything except smoked bud. Just because certain people who smoke bud meddle with harder drugs, doesn’t mean “if you smoke marijuana, you’re opening a gateway to harder drugs”. That’s like taking a group of people who drink whiskey and also happen to be cokeheads and saying “Whiskey leads to coke”.

Lack of self-control leads to harder stuff. Not weed. By the way, I think alcohol is more of a gateway substance than weed.

In my opinion, you take every problem that’s attributed to weed, and once legalized, virtually all of them become irrelevant. Take the drug cartel issue. Legalize weed, regulate it, tax it. Why would a drug lord waste time bringing in product that someone can just go to the local 7-11 (or whatever) to purchase? That’s like someone smuggling in cigarettes and expecting people to actually buy enough to make a profit. The biggest way to hurt the drug cartels is to remove their consumer market. I don’t see why private companies couldn’t grow the f*cking pot, with government inspection.

  184. I think it goes without saying that, considering the options, Ron Paul is the best, if not the only candidate in the race for progressing the legalization of marijuana. That said, ‘don’ brings up a good point – that the president cannot legalize it himself: He must go through congress. Also, from what I have gathered about RP’s approach to government policy (someone please correct me if I’m wrong), he is in favor of legalization, but his ‘pot policy’ is no different than Santorum’s: State’s Choice. So even if he makes it into the White House, there’s would still be a lot more work to be done…

I know I’m preaching to the choir, but these are the people that we expect to run our country!?! I know some people have already highlighted some prime examples of ignorance, but here are a few more that made me laugh:

Romney doesn’t know what Industrial Hemp is

“I would think that [legalizing marijuana] would be an activity that is not consistent with American values.” – Santorum.

“Q: As a champion of family values and keeping America strong, would you continue to destroy families by sending non-violent drug offenders to prison?

Santorum: Uh, wow. The federal government doesn’t do that.”

And if Gingrich’s comment about our founding fathers didn’t get you:
    “Q: I’m a recreational drug user, should I arrested?

Gingrich: No you shouldn’t be arrested, but you also shouldn’t do it.” (What then does he expect to do…?)

Apologize for dragging on… though have to agree with ‘davo’ Ron Paul isn’t perfect, but at the moment hes the best we can get…

  185. And for all you people who the Pres. Doest have the power to legalize cannabis your wrong cuz at any point the president has the authority to reschedule or reschedule any drug at anytime also he talks about cuts that don’t need approval from Congress because there all executive branch cuts that would save the American tax payer over a trillion dollars a year can you fathom a trillion dollars in savings a year in the long run it will lower taxes and create prosperity for anyone who wants it and work for it no other candidates can or wants to do it Dr. Paul care about you and not a political power agenda. Like all the other candidates

  186. Well,I’ve been on the fence between the Republican candidates for all this time now and after reading these replies I’m finally settled–Ron Paul all the way.

  187. Just by being in the race and saying what he does about the racist drug war moves the cause of ending the drug war forward whether he wins or not . . . and the more votes he gets and the farther his campaign gets the more effect Ron Paul has in advancing the cause of liberty . . .
    http://stopthedrugwar.org/speakeasy/2012/jan/18/saying_ron_paul_cant_legalize_ma

Have you ever heard a presidential candidate say something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cldRh1SkRok

  188. the only way ron paul will get voted in for our next president,if we the people get rid of the electorial college vote, till then,we have to put up with the puppets on a string.one person=one vote.like the way the rest of civilize world votes!

  189. IF ENOUGH OF US VOTE FOR RON PAUL, THEY, THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT PUT HIM IN. NIXON ACTUALLY BEAT KENNEDY BY ELECTORAL VOTE BUT KENNEDY WON THE POPULAR VOTE SO THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE REVERSED IT’S DECISION

  190. As opposed to going into the argument of plus’s and minuses on cannabis culture altogether, I revert to the intention of statehood. This concept was intended to keep democracy “workable” by allowing autonomy to the individual states. THis was and is an idealistic concept that keeps our government in check and not only allows voices to be heard that otherwise would not. Our liberties have been augmented to a fraction of what we as a nation intended 230 years ago. Where is social evolution?

  191. I think we need to find someone who dose not have their head up there ass.The gateway drug excuse is the biggest bunch of BS there has ever been.Cartels make millions off of marijuana and there,s is not even good lets take that money away from them.

  192. I for one am very much against all acts of evil. I believe we have been given free will by God in which to make our own choices. We work to pay off debt in order to become financially independent. If we get sick or fall ill should we not be allowed to seek out and to use the appropriate form(s) of medicine as we see fit? Instead of fighting and arguing with each other over this issue can we not once and for all end this seemingly never ending debate peacefully and respectfully? This is what I am consciously praying for to happen in the United States. I do not believe that it is morally acceptable for our own government to dictate to its own citizens on how they may or may not obtain general wellness of the mind, body, and spirit. What works well for some may or may not work well for others. I pray that we open our minds, our hearts, and our attitudes to a purely loving state of grace. I also pray that the leaders of this great nation will receive the wisdom, empathy, and kindness that it will take to lead America through this period of time. This is my hope and my wish for you and for me and for all American citizens. We cannot do this alone as we must work together and finally come to a respectful understanding of one another.

  193. I know the article is about Republican candidates, but some of you who are saying Ron Paul is the only choice are not quite correct. There is another libertarian, who actually served 2 terms as Governor of New Mexico, and who has been very clear in his support for the legalization of marijuana. His name is Gary Johnson, and when the Republican’s fail to respect Dr. Paul in their primaries, as they no doubt will, the only viable choice will be Gary Johnson, who is running where Ron Paul was at one time, and quite frankly belongs now, in the Libertarian Party. If you want to help bring rational drug policy to this nation, help Gary Johnson. Join a state campaign effort. Get out there and spread a consistent message of liberty, including the legalization of marijuana.

  194. It always cracks me up when these politicians start back peddeling about when they used pot. It was apparently “OK” when they were smoking it in a particular place in time. But now, it’s not and they wish they hadn’t done it. Yea….right. Talk about political posterior kissing.
The bottom line is that every single one of them that’s against any kind of legalization are resting on the coat tails of a forty two year old burnt out, Controlled Substance Act of 1970. An act in which the english language was manipulated to suit their needs. And at the time it was implemented to kiss Nixon’s posterior.
If you read that comic book of an act, there is no logical reason that alcohol shouldn’t be in it. But wait….it’s their drug of choice. And they give “US” their
    permisssion to use it.
Oh and by the way, were gonna make examples of you by ruining your life if your caught using something we don’t say you can. And why? Because our “ACT” says so. And we have the right to ignore reality.
This is what happens when we’ve let politics run wild and vote for the wrong people.

  195. Mitt Romney doesn’t even know what industrial Hemp is. Gingrich thinks Washington “would have been” against it. The reality is that Washington ordered his gardeners to “Spread the Indian Hemp seed far and wide,” in 1794. Was Washington just excited about the industrial fiber production? I think not…

  196. Newt is relevant now after SC. From the text it seems explicitly obvious that his appointees will codify screening who are not the 1%!

  197. Marijuana is a gateway drug, but only because it is illegal. I used to smoke (I stopped so that I could join the Air Force, go figure) and after I had been smoking for a while, I started to experiment with certain pills. However, my thought process there was that I was already doing something illegal, so what does it matter if I do something else illegal? Cigarettes are legal, so when I started smoking them I did not rationalize that it was okay to smoke illegal drugs because I was already smoking a legal one.

I find that a lot of people who I have talked to about this have the same ideals. People are more likely to move from illegal activity to illegal activity than legal to illegal.

  198. To Cameron J………If marijuana is in your opinion a gateway drug then it’s a gateway drug for YOU! Not the other 99% of us that have no desire to move on to other drugs that will highly addict and possibily kill you.
The illegality of marijuana rests only on The Controlled Substance Act of 1970. That’s it! The rest is all smoke and mirrors and political crap-o-la. You’ll never catch them standing up in front of a microphone exclaiming how great it is that were arresting over 800,000 people in the US each year. And because of it, ruining their lives.

  199. everybody with 2 brain cells to rub together knows that alcohol is a harder drug then pot,, I have known people that have OD on booze,,, I’ve never even heard about anyone dying from pot,,,, What we should be asking these idiots is do they believe that alcohol should be legal…

  200. Our government does exactly what they are told to do in order to stay in office. The top 10 Fortune 500 drug companies make $35.9 Billion in annual profit. Medical marijuana cuts into their sales of anti-depression and pain relief drugs. With the massive profit the drug companies have it is not very hard to believe that their lobbying and marketing campaigns can have both the politicians and the public believing whatever they want us to believe. Also, do you know that 1 in 1000 people in this country control 1 in 8 dollars. Your very wealthy friends (if you have any) may not support marijuana use and do not want their kids using it, however, since the majority of the wealthy are directly (CEO’s of corporations) or indirectly (investment in companies) linked to the drug companies they want us to believe marijuana is bad. Otherwise, they will lose short term profit and may have to cut back on how many vacation homes they own.

  201. Would there have been an oil shortage if Henry
Ford had his way. He designed a car to be run
off bio-diesel made from hemp, the body was made from hemp. Learn more read The Marijuana
Conspiracy. Dr Ozz and HSN support the hemp industry, but none is grown in the U.S.

  202. Unfortunately, most of the Candidates do NOT know much about Medical Cannabis use here nor the rest of the Body of evidence from Decades to Thousands of years of use and Medical research which supports using Cannabis as a Medicine. GOP nor DNC candidates. Wow! Nor do they realize the importance/value of industrial hemp (Cannabis)in economies past or present. Ron Paul is the only one with an inkling of intelligence on this matter. The candidates really need to do some research on their own and educate themselves. Could make the diffence in being elected. Sounds like they have been brainwashed.

  203. Your right on Walter. I would just add that the judicial system we operate under lay claim that ignorance of the laws are no defense. But apparently ignorance of everything else especially drugs and the history of them is an excellent offense.

  204. its unfortunate that the only candidates who have reasonable views perry and huntsman, are out of the race. and its really too bad that ron paul has such fantastic views in certain areas, then has such ridiculously insane views in others. his take on israel is enough reason why he will never ever become president

as someone who is leaning more and more libertarian, but identifies republican, i have to say its incredibly frustrating to be voting for someone who is so against marijuana, if gingrich gets the nod, that scares me. it really does, hes over the top insane about it. who is he to tell us what medicine works and doesnt work. and what is medicine at that.

  205. WHAT???? Are any of you paying attention? The Fed’s don’t recognize cannabis as anything but a Shcedule One Drug as in accordence with their burnt out 42 year old Controled Substance Act of 1970. That’s all these elected officials need! They don’t have to give any other reasons. That’s “THE” problem. We voted for these elected fools !

  206. As a Deputy Sheriff in Texas working in a Correctional setting I have found that the majority of problems that arise in initial processing come from individuals who are under the influence of Alcohol, Cocaine, and Methamphetamine. The only reason why you have a problem with some individuals arrested for a marijuana offense is because they are a thug and usually have gang affiliations. If we just took the control away from the Cartels and the local pushers and regulated marijuana use like alcohol the cost on society would be greatly reduced. Legalize marijuana, regulate it, and put the money we were spending on marijuana prohibition towards a better cause for society. I love my job as a police officer, you get to do a great deal of good for the community that you live in. However, I wish I didn’t have to arrest people for mere possession of a substance that does not seem to fuel a propensity for violence. Tax, regulate and hurt the Cartels were it matters, in their pocketbooks.

  207. I would love some of the stuff Newt is smoking. Jefferson and Washington’s proclivities growing/smoking hemp have been well documented.

  208. This battle is getting very old, and legalization is long overdue. The science is there to support legalization, and we are at a point where we need to cut wasteful government spending. Shame on these politicians for refusing to do their due diligence!

  209. gingrich is simply retarded saying that washington and jefferson would strongely advise us not to grow hemp and or marijuana they themselves both had large hemp farms do any of these candidates even know american history and or law weed and hemp wwere legal alot longer than it than they have been illegal and were and then he says countries were drugs are legalized are shitholes dumbass doesnt know what hes talking about if you know what youre saying is going on record at least have some clue as to what the hell you are saying i hate ignorant and stupid people dont say something unless you actually know it

  210. whenever an online forum or a publicly forcasted debate airs on television, we all need and should politicians about marijuana legalization. If the public makes government focus on marijuana legalization as the biggest issue facing America, like the economy, then they will have no choice but to answer those who put them in office.

  211. i agree with alot of the info above and i myself am a user for medical purposes. marijuana can benefit alot of people in my area. i also believe it would minimize alcholism and drinking while driving. hemp is a cash crop and would benefit americas national ticking debt clock that is up to the trillions now no thanks to our last pres. we all know it can happen, we can make it out of debt just like we have before. to all the people saying that marijuana is a gateway drug i have news: “among the thousands of people that smoke including myself its not, i can say i have never used another drug other than marijuana.” for the ones in the presidental running that dont have your facts about cannibus, hemp, or any other form of marijuana should do more research before trying to compare it to the harder drugs because marijuana doesnt affect you like cocaine, heroine, or methamphetamines that you see talked about above.

  212. The federal gov. should allow medicinal marijuana to be available to anyone in any state.Og course there needs to be restrictions as to who is or is not is eligable for it.Chronic pain with documents and or MRI’s and or xrays should need to be provided by the one who is requesting it.Temp sleeo problems and creativity blocks are not reasonable health problems and those people would not qualify for it.Also cancers, fybromyalgia, certain types of autheritice etc would. Many mental problems would also qualify such as PTSD,flashbacks, deep depression, anxiety attacks, panic atacks etc are all reasonable reasons to use it.ADHD<ADD OCD etc are also reasonable. There has to be accountability as there are with many other meds on the market. The feds jumped at the chance to allow the new super pain killer Zohydro even though hydrocodone is extremely addictive and deadly as well. Here's something I'll bet many of you do not know. They are getting ready to release a new over the counter med which contains the ingrediant oxycodone. It won't take but a week or so before people will figure out how to get the oxycodone out of this med so it can be abused. The feds also jumped on that one as well. When it comes to harmless medicinal marijuana however they sem to always have one reason or abnother as to why they won't permit it even though their reasons are not founded on fact at all/Then there's the treamendous amounts of revenue which the feds, states and local governments would also benefit greatly from legalising medicinal marijuana..I'm also all for totL LEGALISATION BUT i THINK WE NEED TO START OUT SMALL AND FOCUS ON MEDICINAL USES FIRST BEFORe we all start on total legalisation

  213. Newt has no idea on anything. He proved this by being completely off on one of the founding fathers. If he canbe off by such a degree than he has nothing to offer. If something he said make sence and people agree with it, it would be by chance and not his own idea just something that sliped out

  214. Just because a canidate is aginst something should make no difference. If the people want something that hurts not others he should do as we say…. a government for the people by the people… we should get back to it.

  215. To Mike…
You wrote, “I wish I didn’t have to arrest people for mere possession of a substance that does not seem to fuel a propensity for violence.”
I have news for you (and I know this is a radical idea) but you DONT have to arrest them.
You, and every other law enforcement agent in the country (and politicians – including the president) took an oath to “Uphold the Constitution of the United States”
The Constitution guarantees all citizens certain rights – designed to protect us FROM A CORRUPT GOVERNMENT.
As a peace officer you know better than most that humans can be evil – self serving – corrupt – greedy. Surely you know that despite their best intentions, politicians for the most part tend to be human – and therefore subject to all the frailties that are mentioned above.
As such, as a member of our society that has sworn an oath to protect the rest of us from anything that would violate the freedoms the Constitution grants us, you and all peace officers have a duty to constantly be on the lookout for corrupt laws being passed by corrupt men.
Every person who wears a badge & has the power to arrest another citizen should be the foremost authority on the Constitution – after all, you swore to uphold it when you strapped on that gun and badge.
You did not swear an oath to your captain, or mayor, or congress or the laws they pass.
It was once a law in this country that all police officers coming across a runaway slave was to return them to their masters, or the auctioning block if their masters could not be determined.
Would you have done it – just because it was a law?
“I’m just following orders” is a cop out (pardon the pun)
No corrupt law that is in direct violation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights would have any effect if the officers who swore they would safeguard those rights REFUSED to enforce them.
But when the police blindly enforce laws without even asking themselves “Is this law even constitutional?” then the police become nothing more that the “Muscle” for politicians who repeatedly overstep the limitations the Constitution has placed on them. Think about it.

  216. Here’s whats wierd and proves that indeed both our congress and our senate including the Wh are all corrupted. The feds had no problem wothsoever with aproving the new super pain killer zohydro which is about as close to being pure hydrocodone as they come. Now for another bomb shell getting ready to explode. The feds have also aproved another new medication. This one will be sold over the counter and it’s base ingredient is,oxycodone, the active and highly addictive and deadly base element of oxy’s.What in the hell are they thinking?I mean medicinal marijuana is well documented and well proven to work for a huge variety of deseases,[permanant injury’s causing chronic pain mental illnesses and it’s harmless and more mentally addictive than physically so.This proves to me just how courrupted our congress, senate and h all really are

  217. Inkelf: To me it is funny what you say. You have no idea what it means to be a police officer. As a matter of fact I do have to arrest for Marijuana possession, why because my department does not give discretion in the matter. People who are not in Law Enforcement believe that Police Officers can choose who they arrest. But that is not always the case. So what should I do. Disregard my family and education and lose my job out of something I believe should be freedom of choice. No.. I care for the livelihood and well being of my wife and children, and public I serve more than this cause (Marijuana). I also care for the families affected by Family Violence, Assaults, DWI arrest, Aggravated Offenses, Theft, and Sexual Offenses against both Adults and Children more than I care about Marijuana. That is why I continue to uphold what my State and Department command me to do. I care for the people I can help in the line of duty who are subjected to the most heinous crimes. Do I use marijuana now, No. Why, because it is Illegal. Would I use Marijuana if it were free under the constitution…… Maybe??? I just want to leave that choice up to the people of the US. However, until Prohibition ends. I know I can do more good than harm. In Texas the possession of marijuana less than 4 ounces is a misdemeanor. Most jobs only rule out felony offenses. If you are possessing marijuana in mass quantities, yes I do believe that you should be punished, why because it is more than a usable amount and most likely you are trafficking it. If you are possessing marijuana at personal quantities, I believe you should be left alone. But what does one person’s opinion mean. Nothing, unless it sides with the majority. Stay active. Speak your mind but please don’t believe that everyone is unsympathetic.

  218. I can’t spell so bare with me. I smoke and naver ben arested not even a speding tiket so y put someone in jail fore having a plant. I won’t even take a exsedrin but to the goverment I’m a crimanl fore finding something that works for me that won’t get a recall. I’m not as smart as SOME of the people runing OUR contry but I know wen something works. So I want to say do your job or don’t take the job and let someone that can do it do it

  219. So basically what this cop is saying is that he values money more than he values doing what is right. There was another group of people who were just following orders, even though they knew it was wrong. Those people were called the Nazis. I am not saying arresting people for marijuana makes you a Nazi, but if you will ignore your own morality for money what wouldn’t you do for it? You are probably the type who would fire upon unarmed American citizens if your boss told you to do it. And when you went home thatg night you would somehow rationalize it all in your mind by thinking I had to do it to keep my job. Well what is more important? Your short term financial security or the freedom and rights of the citizens of this country? Because you are taking them away from us for a crappy 30,000 dollar a year dead end job. Way to go. The police, judges, and prosecutors responsible for every single case against a non-violent marijuana offender should be sentenced to prison on charges of false imprisonment, and see how THEY like it.

  220. Yes, Ron Paul seems the voice of reason in an otherwise dismal lanscape and I respect many of his positions. On the other hand, it could be debated that giving the states rights to decide decriminalization for compassionate reasons hasn’t always guaranteed a reasonable perspective from policy makers. It bespeaks the obvious that a vote for Paul would most certainly serve to dilute the Obama vote. Its sad that the GOP might-just-runs could muster such a frightening lack of insight concerning legimate medical and social research concerning cannabis. I believe the president should be given another four years not only because he has made real progress (despite the lack of any cooperation from Congress) but because the alternatives as seen in these interviews would be horrific in terms of the human condition.

  221. I’m sure this has already been said,
but I’m pretty sure Jefferson and Washington grew marijuana themselves. And if I’m not mistaking it was against the law for citizens NOT to grow it..

  222. “Does the government fear us?or do we fear the government. When the people fear the government tyranny has found victory. The federal government is our servant and not our master”.Thomas Jefferson
Cannabis prohibition causes immense fear every moment of every day in millions of people all over America and the world therefore tyranny has found victory all over the world.Rise and demand freedom ! and so no to dictatorship !

  223. there is nothing wrong with weed i smoke it all the time.. it should be legal everywhere! its the best thing ever made! think about it God made it him self it is a plant for crying out loud people! i hope we get ron paul cause he will make it legal!!

  224. Mike, Two things: First, Ghetto Mountain is absolutley correct – morals before money.
Second: You’re making a huge assumption that I’m not in law enforcement – I am. Have been for 12 years. Father was in law enforcement – killed in the line of duty. Brother is in law enforcement for over 35 years. His son & daughter – both cops.

Justify your position how ever you have to so you can look at yourself in the mirror – but once again – Ghetto Mountain has the measure of it.

  225. I’ve been diagonosed w/ Fibromyalgia. At first, I was told I may have Lupus. Recently, I was told, I may have MS, but MS could take years to detect .I’ve been under the care of several docs. of all kinds for years now. Specialist including: family doc. Ob/gyn. Chiropractor’s, pain management, neorologist, rhumotologist, phy. therapist. I’ve been on all sorts of medications: psychological meds, pain meds., sleeping meds., and muscle relaxers.. I’ve done so many x-rays, MRI’s, phy. therapy, blood work, and accupunture. Pain is constantly present, alternates, and has only gotten worse w/ time. My muscle spasms are worse than ever and can be paralyzing at times, certain muscles will go limp and can’t be used. I’ve lived in Las Vegas, Nv for 23 years now. I’m a firm believer in organic life style. I’m very interested in being a cannibis patient, but having trouble establishing a marijuana medical doc. I also want to get involved and support the legalization of marijuana movement. I’m not sure where to start w/ either issue I’ve mentioned. Please, I would appreciate any info. sent to me.

  226. The way I see it, is if Mitt Romney becomes president, it will be another four years til any marijuana reform can progress. I wish Ron Paul was more popular. Its sad to see our people vote for a candidate that has better “looks”, then a candidate that actually makes sense.

What every politician needs to understand is that legalizing marijuana, and hemp. Will take this country out of debt, give us a substitute for crude oil, and many more industrial and medicinal benefits. We need to learn from portugal, they legalized all drugs close to 10 years ago, now there drug user numbers have gone down substantially, crime has gone down substantially. When are the people ever going to get a clue.

  227. hmmm, lets look at the misguided views on addiction for a second. Ive seen a marijuana addict go through the same post acute withdrawal phase as a heroin addict, i have seen the same behaviors displayed for both addicts, i even knew a guy that stole for cigarette money. I witnessed a guy who was an excessive exerciser hurt his knee, he went through mental withdrawal when he could not run any longer. ANYTHING can be attached to, and any attachment leads to pain when it is removed, directly in correlation with how attached you were. The number one causes of death in the U.S are probably heart disease and obesity. Where is the surgeon generals warning on our candy bars? why are prescriptions to food not carefully monitored? People get attached to everything, attachment is in life itself. People tell us once an addict always an addict, keeping people perpetually addicted, even attachment to that train of thought will make a person suffer. Lets look at the death toll from cigarettes and compare them to heroin, now peoples minds start to question. An addict remains perpetually addicted because they simply switch the attachment, even switching to a healthier attachment can lead the user right back after that attachment is removed, an addict that has 20 years clean and HAS to go to AA everyday is doing a good job, but he has not beat attachment. The current view on drugs is completely misguided, and many addicts suffer withdrawals and pain without causing any trouble to anyone else, some would rather die then do bad deeds to obtain it. Personal decisions are not always related to drug use. Personally i know of at least 5 people right now that have used marijuana to get off of a bad heroin addictions. Unfortunately the problem is not just with the view on Marijuana, it is with all drugs. I started my drug career using cigarettes, cigarettes lead me to alcohol which lead me to many other substances. If it was not for those 2 legal substances I would have saved myself about 10 years of my life. Marijuana like all hallucinogens can and does make people more introspective, many times improving their character and personal life. Anything can be an attachment and anybody can attach to anything, eliminating substances only causes Black Markets to excel, people to be jailed and interrupts everyone’s personal journey on learning what is good for them and what is not. Laws should reflect reality not personal ideas of a misguided Utopian dream. ps..newt said that our forefathers would have done violent things to get rid of weed…i thought the laws used to REQUIRE us to grow it? ignorance knows no boundaries, fight the good war on personal growth and views, not on substances.

  228. Ron Paul is the only hope we had for legalization of marijuana and the media has ignored him till I don’t see him taking the nomination now. Ron Paul is in favor of legalization of all drugs at state level of legislation. He wants to keep the federal government out of our lives and knows the current drug laws are obsolete. Maybe America will wake up one day.

  229. why do some people think they can tell other people what they can or cannot put in their bodies? We might as well make tobacco and alcohol illegal.

  230. Newt cracks me up with his statement “I think Jefferson or George Washington would have rather strongly discouraged you from growing marijuana and their techniques with dealing with it would have been rather more violent than our current government.” …it shows how uninformed on history he is considering in their diaries it clearly makes references to hemp and marijuana. They both grew marijuana as a major cash crop and smoked it. Free thinkers like him and many americans who were born in a generation of Nixon and Reagan are the main reason why policies and freedoms have been ripped from our hands and given over to the government. I just wish people would open their minds and hearts see the facts and base their choice on PURE FACTS. I could go on and on about my research on the matter and the countless hours ive spent researching the affects and scientific background on the matter but im sure like myself we all are in the fight for freedom together.

  231. I find it strange that users on this site – knowing full well how the government and the media hide the truth about marijuana – still take the media’s word on other things, like calling Ron Paul’s “ideas” crazy or asinine.

With that comment, you’re saying that our very CONSTITUTION is crazy or asinine or Extremist. Ron Paul supports the constitution fully – which he understands is meant to protect our civil liberties, including the right to ingest anything we damn well please.

If you vote for anyone else, you’re only voting to draw away from the Constitution even more.

People need to realize that the American Constitution is the only document in our history that was meant to protect our civil liberties (including the right to cultivate and smoke weed). Everything after that point has been used to take our liberties away.

We NEED to get back to the constitution. As “Extremist” as you might think it, it’s our only true way of regaining our rights.

Matter o’ fact, I challenge you to read the full constitution (or Ron Paul’s website, which will likely reflect everything on that document) and point out to us just exactly what is Crazy or Extremist or Asinine about it. Please. Your future generations depend upon it. Mine too. Our children and grandchildren. They’ll inherit this mess.

Do you think the founding fathers had the same view? That they were damning their future generations?

No! They were damned proud that they established a (mostly) free society.

And to people who say that it would take away all the slave laws and civil rights laws, YOU ARE SO WRONG. Nothing in the constitution allows for slavery. FREEDOM is not something that the government GIVES to us. We are born with it. Everyone. LIBERTY. Look up LIBERTY and become one with the idea that we are all created equal and that no one man or group of men has the right to trespass upon our rights.

All Ron Paul wants is to stop punishing people for exercising their ‘God’ given rights. No one has the right to do it. Not a man, not a government.

Please, people, don’t take the Media’s word for it. The internet is a big beautiful place. If someone is called a moonbat, then find out why. Find out both sides of the story. As adamant as you are about legalizing your right to use marijuana, he is adamant about legalizing your right to Freedom. SEE THE BIG PICTURE. It’s called Liberty, and I would die for it.

  232. Civil disobediance promotes change. Scope out Moses in Egypt, The original Boston Tea Party, MLK, and the Arab Spring. Reefer afficianados are singled out as “morally bankrupt” by the uninitiated. I excelled during a 15 year tenure with the Air Force until “golden flow” changed my life. My military peers were aghast! They’d subscribed to misguided preconceptions about folks that burn, my “outing” changed some minds. The candidates (aside from RP) have swallowed the same putrid propaganda. They don’t know their family, staff members, doctor, mechanic, or stock broker burns rope. Criminy! I protected myself the same way…had to. Some people can afford to be overt & outspoken about this. ROCK ON! Recognize that people who haven’t shared this experience or known and respected anyone that is up front about it, thinks you’re a creature from another planet. “Coming out” is painful but effective. Thanks Anslinger! Newt & Mitt have no compassion for you…stop these cretins at all cost.
By the way “Cop Mike”, I appreciate your dilemma and your honesty. Pray about it…

  233. Thanks to mike from Texas. As a fellow Texan it’s nice to know there are a few good cops in the world.
It’s time for civil disobediance on a massave scale or war. I’m 52 and damn tired of this crap. Of course we could promote the Green party and Libertarians if only the election laws were different.

  234. It’s funny to me that Newt Said “I think Jefferson or George Washington would have rather strongly discouraged you from growing marijuana and their techniques with dealing with it would have been rather more violent than our current government.” because they both were pro marijuana presidents

  235. Romney has my vote 100% except this issue. I think I’ll vote for Paul today, and in november i’ll be more practical about things.

Damn these rigid conservatives! It’s funny that the oldest one in the bunch is the most in tune with modern reality. And of course has no chance of being president. :-/

  236. The Library of Congress has George Washingtons diary Where he talks about growing Hemp separating the male and female plants using the male for rope and smoking the female it helped him especially when he had a cold.

  237. I recently wrote my state representative Steve Southerland to express my oposition to Marijuana prohibition in Florida. This state is rife with crystal meth and prescription drug abuse. Mr. Southerlands’s form letter reply heralded his policy of jail vs. rehab and promised prosocution to the hilt for ALL drug “crimes” making no deliniation between marijuana and the above mentioned KILLERS. Instead he spoke about FEAR, “stronger law enforcement along our borders” and multiple references to the cartels…completely ignoring the fact that decriminalization would wipe out the incentive to smuggle nasty mexican bulk laden with fertilizer and pesticides into the US. The battle is against ignorance. There are enough of “us” to at least warrant one question on this issue in the republican debates! We’ve got to speak up and speak out…Fight the good fight. Vote RON PAUL, Champion of the Constitution!

  238. hey, I dont think they are as stupid as they act! outside of paul, they are all whores! with no opinon of their own. They say what will get them elected.

  239. I’m all for legalizing the herb, but at the same time I think it won’t be legal any time soon! We can all hope for it but we will be let down,it was almost legal in Cali but all the medical shops, growers etc voted no because then they wouldn’t be making money any longer!! There’s to many reasons why it won’t be legal anytime soon! Maby 20 yrs from now when all the snobs in the government get outta office then maby new younger people who realize there’s no big deal with the “plant” and things will change let’s just hope it happens sooner than later!!!

  240. What is the financial reason the Republicans are not wanting to put back to right the law changed in 1939 making the Marijuana herb illegal. Please tell me, none of the cliches will do for an explanation. I believe it must be the alcohol industry to start. How much money will it loose to the legalization of marijuana, what else, cotton industry how much will it cost you as hemp replaces you in so many items. I know the cancer medical bills will go down because of the help in healing that the Marijuana herb creates will slow the cancer medical bills, wow that is a lot of money to loose to one substance (simply the THC in the herb Marijuana) let loose on the market uncontrolled. No wonder we need to ease ourselves into these law changes instead of just Legalizing the Herb. Thank you I guess I just answered my own question. Well I am registered republican and I am God fearing man and I have suffered chronic pain for over eight years and most times my pain level has been between six and ten. I smoke the Herb Marijuana and it helps me mentally, emotionally, physically, vocationally, and even spiritually. And really I don’t smoke much Marijuana I Vaporize the THC. And until recently I had a better than 3.5 GPA and school is one of the best things that has happened to me lately I am about half of the way to my degree. Thank you Blessings Michael lr Fifty six years old.
