The administration of the non-psychotropic cannabis plant constituent cannabidiol (CBD) is protective in an experimental model of colon cancer, according to preclinical trial data published online in the Journal of Molecular Medicine.
Investigators at the University of Naples assessed the effect of CBD on colon carcinogenesis in mice. Researchers reported that CBD administration was associated with cancerous tumor reduction and reduced cell proliferation.
Authors wrote: “Although cannabidiol has been shown to kill glioma cells, to inhibit cancer cell invasion and to reduce the growth of breast carcinoma and lung metastases in rodents, its effect on colon carcinogenesis has not been evaluated to date. This is an important omission, since colon cancer affects millions of individuals in Western countries. In the present study, we have shown that cannabidiol exerts (1) protective effects in an experimental model of colon cancer and (2) antiproliferative actions in colorectal carcinoma cells.”
Authors also acknowledged that CBD possesses “an extremely safe profile in humans.” They concluded, “[O]ur findings suggest that cannabidiol might be worthy of clinical consideration in colon cancer prevention.”
Clinical review data published in the scientific journal Current Drug Safety in December concluded that CBD is “non-toxic” to healthy cells and is “well tolerated” in humans. Nevertheless, cannabidiol is presently classified under federal law as a schedule I prohibited substance. Such substances are required by law to possess “a high potential for abuse,” “a lack of accepted safety … under medical supervision,” and “no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.”
Separate preclinical trials evaluating the anti-cancer activities of cannabinoids and endocannabinoids show that their administration can inhibit the proliferation of a variety of cancerous cell lines, including breast carcinoma, prostate carcinoma, gastric adenocarcinoma, skin carcinoma, leukemia cells, neuroblastoma, lung carcinoma, uterus carcinoma, thyroid epithelioma, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, cervical carcinoma, oral cancer, biliary tract cancer (cholangiocarcinoma), and lymphoma. NORML provides summaries and links to these studies here.

Lies, cannabis has to be evil because the goverment tells me so and why would they lie to me? It’s not like they get more money by putting people in jail for this non-toxic beneficial plant!
Err hmm… Something smells funny; schedule I means no medical use and the govt gives it to several people making it medicine while locking up everyone else and big pharma is developing sativax.. But it’s not medicine!??!!?
Let me start off by saying sarcastically, thank you to the federal government. First of all children and adults are told to get a better education so that they can become smarter, that is a waste of time for millions of people. Secondly, since people have spent most of their lives working for an education they end up becoming punished by our federal government that is supposed to be all about making peace and helping others in need. Billions of other’s and myself have a problem with unethical decisions that not only is killing our children but are forcing them to create substances that not only illegal but are deadly. Substances such as imitation marijuana, with children and adults being forced to get a better education due to the fact that the parents or students can be charged with or arrested when a child does not attend school due to truancy laws. Furthermore, our government seems to not understand the difference between laws of judgement and the laws of life. Now if we cannot balance the budget, then how they sit back and make decisions on laws that they think will help us when in actualization they permit us with becoming stronger and united. I thought this is the United States not the United Political Party. We cannot even agree upon a single president due to the fact that we are taught in school how to debate and state our own opinion or facts. One thing that totally confuses me is the privacy act. If I am at home all of the time and not creating any problems at all or harming anyone, then why can the police not be charged with an act of terrorism when they break the door down and point guns at our family and animals then shoot an animal for unmoral reasons. This is why we went over sea’s to police the other countries because of people and our country being endanger. Sorry but if someone wants to grow pot and smoke it in their home is their decision, and as long as they do not leave their home unless it is to go to the hospitable. Their are now police and judges being prosecuted with marijuana charges, the same officials that put many marijuana growers and patients in jail. Come on now, there has to be a change done today not tomorrow because what happens if another country decides that they are fed up with the U.S. and uses a nuclear bomb that supposedly does not exist. Our government should at least make a temporary law for 4 years that will allow for doctors to make the best decisions for their patients on marijuana and let people grow in their homes for personal use. However in the same respect, anyone that is illegally transporting marijuana without a doctor prescribed card for on ounce be punished by a minimum of $25,000 dollar fine and minimum of 5 years in prison. This will include first timers and will double each time that offender is caught. This will not only free up the prison but boost moral which will indeed help the economy by increase sales of homes and merchandise. This would also help our local police focus their time more wisely and get more support from the community. Another thing that could be mandatory to help the government local, state, and federal is that when this law gets passed that every person in their town must sign a paper that states they will do 500 hours of community service for support during the four trial years. Many people whether they are elderly or disabled could do some type of service such as mowing, picking up trash, painting, removing hazardous waste, fixing computer systems, building, etc… Why not get support from our community and help our officers not only know who is in their town but put each persons talents and jobs to good use. The end result would also show the other countries that by making one good law can make a major difference to us and make or country a United country that has respect for ourselves and others that we are helping. If I am not mistaken do we not want to teach our children right from wrong and what it is to be an example to others. That is all that I have to say, and if you want to know more about me you can email me at hightechredneck68@lycos.com just state that you want to hear my short life stroy and I will send you my life biography. Thanks for listening
I know of several people that have died from some of these illness, some very close,so the least I can do is send this out all over my redneck state of Georgia. Peace, B.J.
Pharma is the Devil here, Pharma, tobacco and big alcohol are truly Satan themselves right along with 99% of the prohibitionists . They cause tens of thousands to be murdered in what’s known as genocide around the World because of greed & their lust for money . If Pharma makes it then it is legal but if we ingest it or smoke marijuana in its natural form then we are persecuted, jailed, imprisoned, & some of us are even killed .
I’ve been smoking this natural God given plant most every night before retiring to bed & i am over 60 yrs. I have outlived every family member, my uncles, cousins, my Father and my Grandfather .
Go figure .
Jeez..thought you had a brain for a minute till you started that hang em high crap. While I agree the assholes should be penalized ,there are already plenty of laws on the books to deal with them .
Too bad the Feds control cannabis research here in good ol’ US of A. Here’s one paper out of Britain which shows that activation of cannabinoid receptors induce a form of cell-death that protects surrounding tissued from the cellular contents of cancer cells. Apoptosis is an orderly cell death, can be induced by cannabinoids in cancer cells. Necrosis is a very inflammatory type of cell death where cells burst, induced by chemotherapy/radiation (not the best situation). Check out this article.

Science is AWESOME!!!
Great article. Non-psychotropic cannabis can protect you by inhibiting colon cancer cell proliferation but it cannot protect you from psychopathic DEA administrators.
My father retired at 65 and died from colon cancer within 2 years. You got my attention.
My representative to the US House is also a licensed physician. I’m going to let him know about this one. Let’s see how much that oath he took really means to him.
How many different forms of cancer must marijuana cure before it is descheduled?
And being that it is a schedule 1 narcotic with “no medical value”, why did the U.S. government patent it as a neuroprotectant and medicine over a decade ago?
The American President and Congress must adress the facts, and benefits of medical marijuana to the American people. The DEA schedule 1 rating for Marijuana is not correct with the facts and studies. The Medical Marijuana coalition of the American people who have passed State constitution laws, must be recognized and respected. Schedule V rating and or Full Marijuana Legalization. The War must End 2012!
Our Gov thinks,(paid to think,(lobbied) by Big Pharma), it is better that WE consume laboratories full of nasty chemical concoctions,(perscription drugs), that cause a myriad of side effects, short, long term and FATAL, rather than a natural beneficial HERB that will give you the munchies and may make you forgetful.Where are OUR lobbiests? Oh yeah, they (congressmen and senators)are on the payroll(lobbied) too…
So why is it still illegal? MJ helps people battle cancer. And even prevents it in some cases I’ve heard. Maybe they are worried about over population. I’m sure its probably all the money they get for throwing people in their for profit jails and the money they get by taking there propery. I wonder how they sleep at night? Hard to believe its America.
Hard to believe prohibition still exists with all the positive health/industrial evidence in so far for cannaibis. Its the power of corrupt money stealing your health, prosperity and lives away. Happy New Year.
Both my grandfather and his daughtr died from colon cancer. As a life long pot smoker, I feel confident that I have unknowingly protected myself from this horrible disease.
Now it’s really going to be hard to get this legal. The only reason tobacco and alcohol are still legal is that they CAUSE enough illness to keep our medical system in the black. Why the fuck would “they” legalize something that doesn’t increase their margins or make people sick? Oh, I’ve just answered my own question again and now I’ve got puke forming in my mouth.
It’s wonderful to know that the U.S. is outsourcing the research and the subsequent profits to foreign Big Pharma.
Yeah! Go America!
The feds are securing profits from what can be patented from cannabis for corporations.
See! Corporations like Big Pharma are people, too! These are the kinds of people who really need to benefit from patented cannabis research, not those who want to use the plant to self-medicate or simply relax without booze or prescription meds.
I lost my mother in law due to colon cancer.. She refused medical marijuana because of its legal status and obviously lack of solid evidence. GET THIS LEGALIZED NOW, DO TONS AND TONS OF RESEARCH so others don’t have to go through the pain that her family/friends/loved ones all had to and still have to go through.
Marijuana has been one of the biggest blessings in my life with my anxiety/bi-polar/manic depression/and severe back pain from a huge car accident when I was younger, and knowing thats it could be saving others lives but cant because of legal status/stigmas/etc just gets me livid!
About 3yrs ago my mom was diagnosed with colon cancer. After having half her colon removed, multiple surgeries, and suffering through chemo for a year the docs told her the cancer was not being significantly affected and she had 6 months to live. I risked my life and liberty to go out on the streets to get her real medicine. 6 months later docs were baffled there was no trace of cancer. Life is ironic, the same woman beat me with a belt when she found my stash 10yrs ago, now she is the biggest supporter of reform. Cannabis, saving lives since 10,000BC.
It should be the people choice to smoke or not i mean either you like it or you don’t.
Dr. Ron Paul is right again. If marijuana was legal we would be able to afford to eat brownies instead of smoking.
My father had colon cancer at my age (46) and died a few years later. It’s worth a try to me….not to mention other benefits, could very well have saved my life already!
another fantastic curing agent im hoping it is going to save lives!
I’m surprised that more isn’t advertised about Ohio collecting petitions to get this on the ballot (legalizing medical marijuana). In one week I’ve gotten alot of signatures but I had to search for the petition to print it out. I’ve contacted NORML as I cannot find it again and I need more pages. It shouldn’t be that hard. Let’s see some support out there Ohio!

THCA is 4000 times more potent than THC in anti-proliferative activity through GPR55. This means that raw buds are more valuable for Cancer patients than heated preparations. Are you aware of this? If not, please take in the work of the Cannabinoid researcher Dr. William Courtney at http://www.dietarycannabis.com and by viewing his oral presentations on Youtube. For detailed info on dietary cannabis view :http://hempcurescancer.blogspot.com/
All these statements are facts and actually now are backed by scientific studies except why are we still publishing the information by studies on lab rats?? We know that the plant is fully non toxic in any concentrated form an “overdose” would just constitute the munchies and lots of rest “which a cancer patient needs anyways” and protect the nural system from shock or damage!!! Every one can do this in there own home safely with out being placed in harmsway from having to pick up meds on the street, illegally it’s rediculous and the alternative to this is very cheap and very safe for you and even helps our enviorment at the same time??WOW?
Please people also realize that we need to reform from the constant talk of smoking this medicne yes it has its bennifits of instant relief of nausia, minor pains, anxiety and many others. But to effectually evade and kill or protect the spread of Cancer it must be concentrated and made ready for consumption in large doses.. All im saying is that people need to be informed of this plants medicaly appropiate administeration.. and how easy it really is..
I have a friend who died from breast cancer. I presented to her so many convincing testimony but… she refused to use medical cannabis… she died… She was a smart person, for her and her family cannabis was evil… People are smart enough to face death just because something is classified evil or bad… Some commentators are part of these people, they learned cannabis is evil, they will not use it! They may die just to stay smart… I had come to know people of this kind, they are now dead! Unfortunately for them cannabis do cure cancer!!!! So many testimonials from so many different places on earth with so many different backgrounds are providing a brilliant proof, so clear, so obvious, so cheap, so easy to implement: they are talking about 90 days of consumption, not six months, not a year!! For $1,000 you get your 90 days medicine, no provider, no business behind, you can grow your own stuff! Dear people, open your eyes, open your heart, thank God for this medicine and… cure yourself!
