UPDATE: Full C-SPAN video of the entire debate below –“R”R
[Update: Like previous vote totals for spending amendments to stop the federal government from spending tax dollars harassing state-sanctioned cannabisbusinesses and patients, unfortunately this vote too lost by virtually the same margins, 262-163, with 135 Democrats and 28 Republicans supporting the amendment.]One of my favorite things about hosting NORML SHOW LIVE is the ability to break in with live coverage of events that are important to the cannabis community. Thanks to a timely tweet from SSDP, our associate producer Kaliko Castille tracked down the live C-SPAN coverage of a debate in the US House over an amendment that would defund the DEA from being able to prosecute raids in medical marijuana states. We interrupted our replay of a video interview with Dr. Donald Tashkin to cover the news.
I wish we would have broken in earlier to hear the remarks from Rep. Nadler and the other representatives who spoke on the issue. Full coverage of the debate should be up on C-SPAN’s website soon. For now, enjoy the remarks of Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), and Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO). Then recoil back to reality with Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) comparing medical marijuana to sex trafficking and a voice vote dominated by bellowing Republicans to kill the amendment.

I don’t suppose the “Gentlemen” from Virginia is in any way influenced by the Tobacco Lobby which considers Marijuana a competitive product?
House Republicans, once again, standing in the way of logical and reasonable legislation intended to help the American people. The politically motivated DEA should be disbanded entirely.
Fire these a-holes out of office! Fire everyone in the DEA that hates the name “Chong”.
Mr. Wolf,
How many people have overdosed from marijuana?
“Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) comparing medical marijuana to sex trafficking” ???
He not only was not logical in his ‘comparison’, but I don’t believe that he even completed one single sentence, which makes me wonder what medication he might have ingested.
Here’s the vote.
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2012/roll238.xml#NV
Hate to say it, but I’m ashamed to be Virginian.
help me out guys….what was Scott Brown’s (MA)vote?
Frank Wolf goes completely against the Constitution when it comes to state laws vs. federal law. There’s no evidence that smoked marijuana is harmful to anyone, so that was a flat out lie from Wolf as well as the FDA. No one has ever died from marijuana use. People do not fight nor kill from smoking MJ, they do not get addicted, nor does it cause traffic accidents. It comes nowhere near close to oxycontin that is man made and full of chemicals. MJ doesn’t compare to cocaine, crack, and heroine. There are no withdrawal symptoms. Wolf does nothing but continue to lie and keep pushing the same brainwashing rhetoric that a majority of people have always known was a lie that ever tried MJ. And to compare MJ use to sex trafficking is so abhorrent. We’re talking about humanity here with pain and suffering. If anything, he should help to stop sex trafficking, as well as to humanely help those who are in pain and are suffering. We wouldn’t have a war on drugs if MJ was legalized. There is complete scientific evidence that marijuana is useful in so many ways, but Wolf will continue to deny the people their rights. Our country used to grow hemp as a major crop for all sorts of products. But thanks to people like Wolf, they’re the ones who caused us to lose so much over the decades from big oil, out sourcing jobs, manufacturing, and so much more. He’s just another right wing-nut that needs to go. There’s so much more I could state, but my time is short.
When do they vote?
[Paul Armentano responds: They voted last night. It’s on the video.
The House defeated the amendment 163-262
135 Democrats and 28 Republicans voted ‘yes.’ 50 Democrats and 212 Republicans voted no.
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2012/roll238.xml%5D
Frank Wolf is a pathetic loser. Comparing cannabis use to sex trafficking shows that he is psychologically unfit for office. I ask Mr. Wolf, where is the victim in responsible cannabis use? NO VICTIM NO CRIME!! Cure the nations ills and DEMAND TERM LIMITS!
The Republican party represents cultural conservatives. Marijuana should be illegal because. Just because.
Cultural conservatism. I’m old enough to remember when men never had long hair–as if it were sexual dimorphism or something. Meanwhile any man growing a mustache would find a little message in his next pay check. Either it goes or you do. Of course, then they’d tell you about how free you are.
Mr. Wolf is one of the stupidest men today in politics. God knows this idiot needs to go the way of the dinosaur!
God Damn Him!!! Seriously, I hope this tobacco head dies of cancer and the sooner the better.
so? i am sure Rep. Frank Wolf has his hands in the sex pot, stirring away with his little spoon while little boys and girls fondle his testicles…
but bud, oh watch out! that stuff ‘el kill ya.
sex trafficking?
so you can’t impeach someone for not knowing what they’re doing or what they are talking about, but i could lose my job if i am 10 minutes late for work or get someone hurt (like they are doing by continuing to allow the prosecutions of cannabis users???) how is this fair?
Ramblings of someone with dimentia….how sad.
fallacies abound. the argument that traffic accidents can be discredited by merely looking at the national transportatino safety board state by state records of the past decade. Check it out and compare side by side with states’ legal status on marijuana.States where mj is decriminalized there is a direct correlation with decreased traffic fatalities right down the line. Look it up yourself.
David C – thank you very much for posting that roll. I saw that my current congressman Charles Gonzalez (D-Texas) voted against it. Also noticed that Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), new candidate for my new district 35, voted FOR it. So I know who to vote for 🙂
And yet, these same bozos just approved a defense-spending bill for $5 billion more than Nobama wanted.
If all the Democrats would have voted aye, then it would have won by 1 vote.
Mr. Wolf you sir are DIPSHIT of the highest caliber sir. What the hell is he talking about comparing a few people enjoying a joint to the horror that is sex trafficing? I mean what?
Off the subject but same sex marriage is not going to help the economy.
Wasn’t it Thomas Jefferson ore someone said that an unjust law is not a law at all?
Coming from a Virginian, the fact that even living in this state associates me with Frank Wolf disgusts me. He is completely uneducated on the topic of marijuana. This is shameful to Virginia and the US government for putting such an uneducated person in office.
Good point dave, Obama’s for gay-marriage but not for the weed? support in this country is the same is it not?
Mine voted no…I will also vote no and hopefully the next rep is not as ignorant.
Barney Frank made some great points. I’m glad he is taking the time to go up in front of these liars and confront them in a sensible manner.
Thank you friends of NORML for your hard work!
so i believe that drug dealers love to go to any means of promotion to keep hemp(all forms) illegal even if it means making movies, comic books etc.. that both promote the use plus makes consumers look foolish. trust me its not the government that does this.
It is time to give those 262 members a shellacking. United States citizens VOTE!
be sure to leave some feedback on Frank Wolf’s facebook page.
https://www.facebook.com/RepFrankWolf
I didn’t see ANYTHING about this bill until last night. This should have been on NORML front page long before we only had 5 hours to call our reps.
[Paul Armentano responds: That is because this was not a bill but a single amendment to appropriations legislation. It only became apparent this week that the sponsors were willing to introduce said amendment and it only became clear yesterday that the House would debate and vote on the issue last night.]
‘Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man’s appetite by legislation and makes crimes out of things that are not crimes. A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded’. – Abraham Lincoln If our representatives can’t or won’t end prohibition then we the people must act through jury nullification.

I got the list of all those who had voted and saw that my representative voted no. It was no surprise.
I hope he gets voted out in the next election.
I noticed my representative, Andy Harris, voted no. Harris is a medical doctor. I wrote him a respectful letter suggesting that a doctor should be more concerned about the science behind the issue. I also couldn’t resist suggesting he try to do no harm.
After the episode in March 2011 involving the censoring of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) website posting on the anti-tumor properties of our beloved weed, I requested an investigation. I never received a response of any kind.
I still like to know the story behind the NCI’s medical expert’s rationale in the original posting.
I cannot understand why the federal government continues to provide support to the Mexican drug cartels. With a multibillion dollar Mexican drug industry in our country we never indict the bankers who launder those profits and who sell our country to others. Very little of that money is stopped going back acrossed the border to Mexico. I would prefer to see a few dispensaries that pay taxes and support local government rather than gangbangers selling who knows what to our kids on every corner. We arm the cartels through operations like Fast and Furious and the federal government continues to take out their only real competition which are legitimately run state licensed dispensaries. People like this joker are federal thugs who interfere with the rights of our states to determine our own destiny. I’ll bet this guy lives in a gated community or home that can keep the riffraff out that the rest of us have to deal with daily. This form of ignorance actually brings more violence to our communities; it does not solve our problems. I hope that the good people of Virginia elect Kristin Cabral rather than to invite this uninformed creaton to another term. I’m not even from Virginia but I plan to make a small donation to her campaign.
I hate Frank Wolf he is a blundering idiot and I just can’t stand him even beyond his hate for marijuana he can’t speak clearly or rationally at all. The fact people like him are making decisions for our country shows how truly pathetic we are.
All the representatives for the amendment sounded reasonable and factual.
The one Representative from Virgina seemed to be schooled by the DEA.
The chorus of “no’s” sounded like bellowing bulls chewing their cud.
It’s unbelievable this 75 year old lie still has life.
Wow. Frank Wolf is a moron.
As much as I love being Virginian, I’m extremely disappointed in my state at the moment. Wolf isn’t quite the most brain-dead right-winger I’ve seen, but he’s up there.
The republican party wasn’t always this bad, political conservatism works when balanced with well planned liberal ideas, its a shame all our conservatives have an IQ lowe than theit shoe size AND are cultural conservatives, which is in every way, no matter what party you belong to, horrible. Culture moves forward to a better and brighter future. Too bad they’re working against it.
First you got Jimmy Kimmel, then Time magazine questioning the President on his medical marijuana war, recently Nanci Pelosi, and it was even debated in the House too, this medical marijuana thing has some legs.
It seems there are limits to how far Obama/President can go on the medical marijuana war when the public says, “now wait a minute.” This is all good news.
Barney Frank for president.
Isn’t this the same House of Representatives that recently voted to decriminalize MJ? That was for everyone who possessed it. Not just medicinal users. They were OK to decriminalize it for healthy, recreational users but they decided to support the DEA’s heroic war against the Co-ops? Anybody else smell something fishy?
Law enforcement will fight legalization into the ground because of the forfeiture laws alone. They rake in millions with the status quo. All of the overtime they can handle. Private prisons are an entire industry on their own. Bail bondsmen, lawyers, tow truck drivers, everybody’s making money on it, just the way it is.
I would’ve liked to’ve heard a question raised in favor as to why,if the “weed” is so “harmful”,the US has a patent for it’s medical properties!
Let the enfeebled mind of Frank Wolf (probably caused by legal drugs like Bourbon whiskey) process that!
That guy could barely put a sentence together. Scary.
The DEA and the private prison industry doesn’t want to lose this easy money busting sick people and their medicine.
Frank Wolf is an old crony. He wants to play big daddy and save us from ourselves. It is time for him to retire. Not only is he out of touch with the people; he is out of touch with himself and reality.
Hey Frank keep in touch with yourself. By the way your speech was utterly ridiculous. Get ready start looking for a job. Cause your out of here.
Wolf is wrong, it’s not like sex trafficking, it’s like Communism! That’s right! A vote for MMJ is a vote for Communism!
I still just don’t understand how the president can sit back with a smile and ignore this issue completly.
We need to get younger people in office, like jared polis. He understands. Best of all once we fix it, we don’t have to stay, just don’t run for another reelection. Some districts probably just need to have a sign posted that you want to be the district politician. What do I know, I just like to avoid big government, but big government doesn’t want to avoid me for my heath and safety
I am from Virginia and I am disgusted by Frank Wolf and his nonsensical arguments. I have gone ahead and categorized all of VA’s representatives for other Virginians along with their party and district based on how they voted on this. If they are unwilling to help out other states they sure as hell don’t care about their own with this issue. Please help by voting these politicians who refuse to listen to reason out of office!!!
For:
3rd District – Bobby Scott(D)
8th District – Jim Moran(D)
11th District – Gerry Connolly(D)
Against:
1st District – Rob Wittman(R)
2nd District – Scott Rigell(R)
4th District – Randy Forbes(R)
5th District – Robert Hurt(R)
6th District – Bob Goodlatte(R)
9th District – Morgan Griffith(R)
10th District – Frank Wolf(R)
Did Not Vote:
7th District – Eric Cantor(R)
My idiot representative went with the rest of the bunch. Time to expose the DEA for what it is. Every agent has to be outed. Get a name and post it on the web pictures to go along with the photo. That ought to stir some excitement.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compassionate_Investigational_New_Drug_program
to provide patients with 9 ounces a month while saying cannabis has ho value is a crime against us all
does Irvin Rosenfeld ring a bell? it should
I sent this to Mr. Wolf’s Facebook (thanks above for posting his page).
Your lies about marijuana will only last so long. More people than you think caught your little act on C-SPAN. Trust me when I say that the rest of the country knows why you and the other morons voted the way you did. You sir have enough money. You don’t need more, and you only hurt the people you said you would help. Take your millions, go home, and let someone who knows the truth do the job correctly.
1.) How many people have died as a direct result of you pushing cigarettes?
2.) How many people have died specifically from smoking Marijuana?
Oh that’s right, you don’t care as long as your bank account keeps growing with every lie you tell. If you and Bush were in a room together, I wouldn’t be able to choose who was more uneducated.
I’m not worried though, the truth is known by over half of the citizens in this country. Let me connect the dots for you… Over half is a majority. Get a clue. We are much smarter than you think, and in the end, PROHIBITION ALWAYS FAILS!
Tell us, will you honestly be proud of what you have done when your career is over? Have you helped people the way you said you would? Are you proud of denying people medicine that everyone but you and your friends knows they need? Will you sit back in your rocker and laugh about how you helped the DEA terrorize and destroy families?
Marijuana is not the problem, YOU ARE.
Time to take back our government. We have a large voting block, so lets unseat all incumbents until they start doing things our way. If we need a web site to control national vote, let me know and I will make a web site to store information so we can control nationally.
Awesome!
I appreciate that the republican idiot from Virginia is so worried about our youth.. Too bad they do it by manipulating people to justify their cause/overseas bank account.. I wonder what Romney would do? I hear he is good at making money and killing REAL jobs..
A Heroin/opiate/morphine based drug is compared to Cannabis? Relating the two is like night and day for anyone with TRUE experience. People WILL take REHAB before JAIL time any day that’s why we say we are dependent..I am just trying to poke some holes in their story since the truth won’t come from them.
The vote results does let us know who voted against it, and there is no way a politician can lie out of it.
It is a good chance for future candidates to compete against them.
Keep the list as reference and vote!
Thank you Paul for your response. I was confused by how quickly this happened, so thank you for clearing that up.
Thank you for posting this NOMRL.
In response to Rep. Frank Wolf’s comments… Teens don’t smoke medical cannabis, they get it from their drug dealer… not their sick and dying grandma.
Republicans blocked marijuana yet again. Does that surprise anyone? Republicans also blocked a proposed study of marijuana by the FDA a short while back. To allow marijuana FDA research as medicine— Democrats vote yes —- Republicans vote NO—loss by one vote—so no medical research allowed by the FDA as needed to remove it from schedule 1. Thanks again and again and again Republicans for blocking our medicine at every level you possibly can. Want legal marijuana??? Vote ALL Republicans out of office at every level including city, county, and State.
Any marijuana smoker who votes for MR. No medical Marijuana for any reason Mitt Romney needs to be shot.
Keep running the economy into the ground until cannabis is legalized!
Keep running the economy into the ground until cannabis is legalized even if it means Obama does NOT get re-elected.
It doesn’t matter if Romney or the man on the moon is elected so long as you keep running the economy into the ground to make state and local economies need the jobs and their levels of government need the revenue from cannabis.
Keep running the economy into the ground until cannabis is legalized!

So what is being done if any thing about his guy wolf is there any one going public and calling him in and making him explain his
explain to the public his remark. Or is it just going to stop here ?
Bren,
Great post.
One correction: only 29% of Americans have a college degree. Over 40% of the residents of washington D.C. have a college degree. Make no mistake about it, the federal government DOES think we are stupid. In fact, they think we are REALLY STUPID.
How else could we explain a 75 year war on people who use a harmless plant which began with a LIE that went UNCHALLANGED?
You would think with the obesity problem they would welcome a vice that has ZERO calories. Even with the munchies I don’t exceed my calorie intake a day. On the other hand alcohol is tons and tons of empty calories.
You know, maybe if Republicans could stop thinking about who they want to abuse next, they could stop thinking about sex abuse… We’re for family values! What family values, assholes? You poison people with deregulation and lies. You hold your convention in Vegas the city of sin. Republicans are nuts and they have “family values” like the mafia does.
I, agree 100% with Bren. I, say vote all the politations out. Time to clean house.
heeh department of injustice
I can’t believe we got a debate going… let’s see how prop 19 goes this year!
teeeny bopper is our newborn king uh huh
la dada da di…dah dah dah dah
…………….the Moron they call Mitch McConnell says that pot smoking leads to death.
Well, let’s vote out all who voted no and keep those that voted yes…there were crossover votes, so we don’t want to base it on reasons that would get rid of those that are in favor of positive cannabis laws.

Please don’t make statements like “all republicans need to be voted out”. First off, that’s not feasible. Second, there were some republicans that supported this bill. Third, 27% of the democrats voted against this. Ron Paul is a republican and I would take him over many democrats.
For the record, I am a registered Libertarian, and wish more people understood what that means. Anyone who makes generalized statements bashing either republicans or democrats doesn’t understand politics.
California deficit grows to $16 billion, Gov. Jerry Brown says
Brown in January had estimated a budget deficit of $9.2 billion. He warns of even more painful spending cuts to come and will present a revised plan Monday.
CALIFORNIA is mad and it is you, President Obama whose creating unemployment with the forced closures of dispensaries & marijuana businesses together with the republicans who are not making things better here….only worse .
We want our Nation of California returned to its people, not to politicians .
I did not read this article, only the comments. It is obvious that our leaders have betrayed us and the laws of the federal government are meant to destroy peoples lives and livelihood. They are purposely trying to destroy all of us, and filter out as many of the non-conformists as they can.
Thanks, America for continuing this senseless drug ( marijauna ) war resulting in mass murders .
Forty-nine headless, dismembered bodies were found along a stretch of highway in Mexico on Sunday.
The mutilated bodies “scattered in a pool of blood”—some with their hands and feet “hacked off,” according to the Associated Press—were discovered by local authorities on the edge of the town of San Juan on a road that connects Monterrey to the Texas border.
The bodies were thought to have been dumped there by a drug cartel, authorities said. A welcome sign near the killing field was filled with graffiti with the message, “100% Zeta
Mr Wolf has lost his mind.
He is right “he does not Understand”
He is right “he does not Understand”
Mike G, those “republicans” are going against the grain and the party would get rid of them if it could. Sorry, but if you’re a dependable, normal human that cares about your neighbors, the republicans don’t want you in their party, even if you do win elections.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_and_spiritual_use_of_cannabis
Hindu people in India have been smoking MJ for thousands of years. Why wouldn’t there right to smoke MJ in the USA be protected by the US Constitution? Just curious.
WTF frank wolf… how many people have died from marijuana abuse? how many people have died from oxycontin abuse. you cant die from marijuana unless you take obscene amount… amounts most americans would not be able to afford by going to a dispensary. Obviously marijuana doesnt have harmful effects like over the counter prescription drugs, so it should be treated differently and regulated. Massachusetts needs to adopt a medical marijuana bill for those who suffer with MS like my grandmother, and who need it to keep muscle spasms low and feel little pain.
With so much support for Cannabis, and the obviously broken/delusional/ignorant/murdurous govt which still supports decades old, ignorant, racist lies and propaganda, why aren’t we doing anything about it? The longer prohibition continues, and the reasons why – the more ridiculous it gets! In my eyes, the govt (which is the result of the masses support) is responsible for –
EVERY nonviolent drug offenders life that’s ruined, and what they go through in prison
ALL the deaths that continue to tally due to the war on drugs
This system responsible for anyone who had to resort to the black market and had something unfortunate happen to them as well as any deaths in the black market
This system is responsible for ALL the tax payer money wasted in fighting an obviously failing war
This system is responsible for ALL the pain and suffering that MILLIONS had to go through because they couldn’t get a safe and natural alternative to help their ailments
The current structure is responsible for ALL of the people who became addicted top prescription drugs because they couldn’t get access to cannabis
The establishment is responsible for the DEATHS of ALL the people who’s lives cannabis COULD HAVE SAVED
The establishment is responsible for the deaths of unarmed, nonviolent citizens (and pets) during drugs raids
The establishment is responsible for all propaganda filled human beings who walk around with ignorant, distorted views of one of the most benign substances on earth
The establishment is responsible for not allowing the hemp industry to flourish to keep profits in other polluting and corrupt industries like OIL
Denying hemp also stopped all the possibilities of all hemp products which could replace so many wasteful and polluting products we use today
Lastly, establishment policies (which in a way are supported by the public through continuing to vote for the nonsense called politics) are responsible for future incidents where all the things I mentioned will continue to happen!
How many lives would this add up to? How much money squandered? How many families ruined, and children displaced? It is truly disturbing the damage that cannabis prohibition alone has done to society!
With 20,000 studies on cannabis, no deaths directly related to cannabis, and a govt that is in cahoots with big pharma/alcohol/tobacco, and refuses any findings or studies on cannabis, it’s very CLEAR WHAT WE NEED TO DO! This list doesn’t include all the other ways maintaining political and monetary systems harm the ENTIRE PLANET! Nonviolent, civil disobedience and mass nonparticipation is in order NOW! Let 2012 be the year we kick this shit off!!! Stop looking within the system for solutions!!! If you continue to promote a politician, think throwing money at the issue, or anything the current elite classes use to operate society, you may as well just give up.
The establishment is not in any way here for your best interests. It makes zero sense to keep trying to do the same shit over and over within a system that is meant to suppress the masses through a wide variety of methods – its literally insane! Look anywhere in history – the values and “beliefs” of the public are based around the interests of the dominant class of the period. Right now we are dominated by a small 1% of the population due to the interests they have, and legal & economic structures they keep in place. So when you try to use their system to get something changed, one can see how we’ve been stuck for decades in a state of institutional classism. Laws are written to protect elite interests. When the people become educated, stand together, and discontinue support of harmful, contrived institutions, we will then begin taking steps towards civilization. Even the 1% are human beings – maybe some of them can wake up too. But, if the people CANNOT come together on common ground, recognize the root/core issues, and unite across the planet in a way never before seen in history, everyone may as well stop all forms of activism now.
Dave Evans, please re-read my post as you apparently didn’t understand it. I am not a republican.
Even DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz voted against the amendment. President Obama has turned his back on medical marijuana. Supporters of medical marijuana should turn their backs on the President, sit out this election, and re-double efforts at the state and local level.
They claim Marijuana causes death? Where might that be? I have never heard of anyone overdosing and I have also never heard someone wrecking a car or killing an individual by Marijuana driving. And yet, tobacco sales cause several thousand deaths annually and alcohol constitutes for a majority of violence and killing in this country. So please do tell why weed is still illegal, but alcohol and tobacco I can get at any corner store?
Elmer, our not-so-Supreme Court has already looked at the issue and decided that marijuana is too dangerous to be allowed under “freedom of religion”. The case was lost by Rastafarians and they directly associate ganja with the holy. Loop holes, apparently, are for everyone else.
Why can’t pot heads get justice in this country?
Mike, I don’t care what party you belong to 🙂 Libertarians are cool with me. But if only about 1 in 4 Republicans are worthwhile, and are also working against the party goals, it seems like it’s time to flush whole the damn party.
I’m voting for Ron Paul in the primary. But probably for Gary Johnson in the main election.
There are many f good people that would appreciate the jobs that these jokers are holding right now and they would likely do a real good job at them! I say vote these greedy lying politicians out of office in November and vote in the good people! These thieves have forgotten how to do real work and they need a refresher course in sewer pipe trench digging by hand or they need to move on and retire so someone real can have their positions…they have forgotten what working people do daily!
Vote Ron Paul if you want the drug war to cease…write him in if necessary! He hasn’t quit! That’s just the NoBama media playing their games again!
The funny thing here is I’m not seeing one person mention that the head of our nation is the greatest impediment we currently have re: reform. He’s the one who has promised to protect the medical patients and we now see that this was just another lie (among many) to get elected. The govt wants us to get hung up on partisan politics. This isn’t a partisan issue – its an issue of liberty and loss of personal freedoms. To hell with the Reps and the Dems – they only care about lining their own pockets. They’re not in it for anyone but themselves. When it comes time to vote, quit voting the “lesser of two evils” and vote for candidates who uphold the US Constitution. Period. This is the only peaceful way to take our country back.
What we need to do is pressure our State governments to up hold our rights as voters. The DEA is so much smaller then the states police. When they raid dispenceries they’re breaking state law which we as a sociey passed. Arrest them for the criminals they are.
I am now 66. By the time I was 35 I realised the following: Legalise it and tax it like wine.
I think that most of our goverment rep’s have fallen off the rails. They do not go to washington to represent us they go get rich.We need to make a clean swipe and start over.Mr.wolf is being paid a lot of money by someone. If this contry grew our own we would not need mexican pot.Let the DEA have there crack, herion and cocain but leave our marijuana alone. VOTE RON PAUL
WOW…..’ Barbara Lee, really well we need to vote her out
As disappointing as this vote was, I was really glad to hear so many great arguements in favor of it. I hope everyone will write to thier reps thanking them for thier support, and expressing thier disapproval to those who voted against it.
FYI, your website doesn’t appear right in Opera.

OK folks its time to make a stand.
The only thing that can get things done is money and votes. Most of us have voting rights, some have money. Email this message to your elected officials and stand firm. Also send to like minded friends and family:
To the President, Members of the US Congress, State and local elected officials:
Criminal marijuana prohibition is a failure. Over 20 million Americans have been arrested for marijuana offenses since 1965 with over 800,000 arrests in 2010. The problem is getting worse – not because of the benign plant, but because of the obsolete laws. The time has come to amend criminal prohibition and replace it with a system of legalization, taxation, regulation, and education.
I can no longer vote for elected officials that support the the current laws. I have decided not to vote for any politician that does not publicly support the removal of all penalties for the private possession and responsible use of marijuana by adults, including cultivation for personal use, and casual nonprofit transfers of small amounts.
Signed
Voting Citizen
& Member of the Movement
Can someone please post who voted against this? I’d like to make sure I don’t vote for those against lifting the prohibition in the next election.
Thanx
To NORML
Please publish all incumbents who support legalization/regulation/taxation in a manner that your supporters can use to vote for pro marijuana candidates.
Everybody who is pro cannabis whether is business’s using Industrial Hemp, Medical Cannibis industry or your once in a while laid back stock brooker it is time to vote in canidates that are also pro-cannibis.A reasonable Industrial Hemp and Marijuana requires legelators at the local, state and federal levels. Oregon’s November ballot has a interesting wrinkle in that it will set up state run stores. These state run stores will sell marijuana at cost. These state stores will also purchase marijuana from growers. The idea is, that if you sell at cost and buy directly from legal farming, the cost of Marijuana will come down and the illegal trade will disapear. I think this is a good idea and all states should follow it.
It has been years, if ever, since Frank Wolf said anything intelligent on the floor of the House. Term limits, which of course he does not support, would have sent this less than bland representative packing years ago. Special interest money will keep him secure till he hits the nursing home.
Is it just me, or is there always a preponderance of names of Legislators stated in most issues, certainly MMJ, that are for, versus few if any names exposed that are ‘against’.
It would be very helpful for knowledge to expand on MJ being prohibited if names of legislators ‘against’ in their voting was listed in articles.
While each researcher can do the work, it becomes more difficult when everyone is duplicating the effort.
From there, finding the correlation between Legislators that receive ‘campaign donations’ from companies with vested interests to never see Mj components come to market.
So to say Monsanto and J&J as examples.
OK folks its time to make a stand.
The only thing that can get things done is money and votes. Most of us have voting rights, some have money. If ya have some money to spare – contribute to Normal or a like organization and/or email this message to your elected officials and stand firm. Also send to like minded friends and family:
To the President, Members of the US Congress, State and local elected officials:
Criminal marijuana prohibition is a failure. Over 20 million Americans have been arrested for marijuana offenses since 1965 with over 800,000 arrests in 2010 and each year the number increases. The problem is getting worse – not because of the benign plant, but because of the obsolete laws. The time has come to amend criminal prohibition and replace it with a system of legalization, taxation, regulation, and education.
I can no longer vote for elected officials that support the the current laws. I have decided not to vote for any politician that does not publicly support the removal of all penalties for the private possession and endorse responsible use of marijuana by adults, including cultivation for personal use, and casual nonprofit transfers of small amounts.
