The Right to Try Medical Cannabis Act takes effect on July 1, 2026.
The law seeks to facilitate and fund medical cannabis research, including “research related to the efficacy and potential health effects of various cannabis delivery methods.”
Cannabis was associated with fewer than one percent of all substance use-related cardiovascular deaths, investigators determined.
The legislation will make it easier for qualified patients to register for the state’s medical cannabis access program and for physicians to participate in it.
In their dissent, justices for the minority opined, “Not only is this particular initiative dead, but so is Mississippi’s citizen initiative process.”
