Jackson, MS: Lawmakers failed to vote to override Governor Tate Reeves’ vetoes of two bills that sought to expand patients’ access to medical cannabis products.
Specifically, the Republican Governor vetoed House Bill 1152, which sought to provide physicians with greater discretion to recommend medical cannabis to their patients and House Bill 895, which sought to extend the validity period of a practitioner’s medical cannabis recommendation and remove THC potency caps on cannabis tinctures, among other changes.
Despite both bills having passed by significant margins, lawmakers failed to take action to override the Governor’s vetoes prior to the end of this year’s legislative session. In his veto message, Gov. Reeves opined that the measures would “erode safeguards” and would “extend the ‘right to try medical cannabis’ to every person on the planet.”
