“For the foreseeable future, New Hampshire will remain an island of cannabis prohibition.”
November’s vote will mark the third time since 2020 that South Dakotans have weighed in on the issue.
New Hampshire is the only New England state that currently prohibits adult-use cannabis sales.
“Most Americans have tried cannabis and few regret having done so. This is reflected in the public’s consistent support for legalizing and regulating cannabis.”
Consistent with prior analyses, researchers determined, “There was no evidence that RML [recreational marijuana laws] were associated with encouraging youth marijuana use.”
“As more states have adopted legalization, public support for this policy has risen dramatically among voters — regardless of party affiliation. Elected officials who refuse to take action to end cannabis criminalization do so at their own political peril.”
“Together, results found no net increases in cannabis or, through spillover effects, alcohol or tobacco use among adolescents in response to the rapid rise of RCL [recreational cannabis legalization] and RCR [recreational cannabis retail sales]. Results suggest that legalization and greater control over cannabis markets have not facilitated adolescents’ entry into substance use.”
