Absent cannabis descheduling, those who produce, dispense, possess, or use marijuana in compliance with state laws could still face federal prosecution for violating federal drug laws.
“Delaware’s first weekend of adult-use cannabis sales has shown that our state is ready — and eager — for a well-regulated, responsible market,” Democratic Gov. Matt Meyer said.
Nearly 90 percent of US adults believe that cannabis should be legal for either medical or adult-use purposes.
Regulators had anticipated launching adult-use sales in early 2025, but the rollout faced numerous delays.
