State lawmakers have advanced several priority bills to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk and a few more remain pending but are up against a tight timeline. The legislative session in California ends on August 31st. Any bills not transmitted to the Governor will die after that date. (Once advanced to the Governor, he has 30 days to act on the bills.)
Despite a majority of lawmakers who participated in the vote deciding in favor of the measure, it failed to garner the required 3/5 supermajority to advance to the Senate.
By a vote of nearly 2 to 1, members of the South Carolina State Senate advanced medical cannabis access legislation, the bipartisan Compassionate Care Act. It will now go to the State House of Representatives.
Despite the Governor’s threat to veto, Mississippi lawmakers have advanced the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Act, which legalizes medical marijuana access in the Magnolia State.
