“The sooner consumers have market access to cannabis products, the more quickly we will begin to see disruptions to the unregulated marketplace.”

“Today, for the first time since the adoption of federal marijuana prohibition, more US citizens reside in jurisdictions where cannabis is state-legal than live somewhere where it is not,” NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano said.
With just days to go before Ohio’s voter-approved marijuana legalization measure becomes law, GOP lawmakers are rushing through legislation to all but repeal it.
In a healthy and functioning democracy, elected officials represent the views of the electorate. But, when it comes to the issue of cannabis law reform, Republican lawmakers all too often ignore or seek to undermine their voters.
“Cannabis legalization is an issue that unites Democrats, Republicans, and Independents,” NORML’s Deputy Director Paul Armentano said. “It is imperative that elected officials respect the voters’ decision and implement this measure in a manner that is consistent with the sentiments of the majority of the electorate.”
If enacted by Ohio’s voters on Election Day (November 7th), the possession of marijuana will become legal for adults on December 7th.
“Ohioans have seen similar legalization laws adopted in neighboring states and they know that regulating the cannabis market is preferable to the failed policy of prohibition.”
If passed, Ohio will be the 24th state to legalize the adult-use marijuana market, and the 14th do so by a public vote.
