Washington: Legislation Signed Permitting Medical Cannabis Use On School Grounds

Olympia, WA: Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee has signed legislation, House Bill 1095 (aka Ducky’s Law), permitting qualified patients the opportunity to consume certain medical cannabis products while on school grounds.

The new law states, "A school district must permit students [who possesses a valid medical cannabis recommendation] to consume marijuana-infused products on school grounds, aboard a school bus, or while attending a school-sponsored event." Students may not smoke medical cannabis, nor are they permitted to display cannabis products in a manner "which is open to the view of the general public."

The policy also permits authorized school staff and/or the child’s parents or guardians to administer the products on campus.

Several other states – including Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, and New Jersey – have enacted similar medical access laws.
