Atlanta, GA: The number of Georgians enrolled in the state’s medical cannabis access program has increased more than 20 percent since lawmakers expanded the law in May.
Senate Bill 220: The Putting Georgia’s Patients First Act, which took effect on July 1st, permits qualified patients to access botanical cannabis as well as products containing elevated quantities of THC. Previously, patients were limited by law to accessing only low THC oil products.
Following the passage of the new law, NORML began classifying Georgia as the 41st medical cannabis state.
Since July, over 8,000 additional patients have joined the program. Nearly 45,000 Georgians are now registered to access medical cannabis products.
Other changes enacted by SB 220 expand the pool of patients who may access state-approved cannabis products to include those diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease and lupus. The Act also relaxes the requirements for patients with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and other conditions seeking to join the program.
