Springfield, IL: Licensed cannabis retailers in Illinois are in strict compliance with the state’s minimum age requirements and nearly always deny access to minors, according to data published by the state’s Cannabis Regulation Oversight Office.
According to the office’s 2026 annual report, Illinois police attempted underage purchases at 1,452 licensed marijuana dispensaries. Their efforts were rejected by retail staff over 99.5 percent of the time.
The findings are consistent with compliance check data from other states – including California, Colorado, Washington, and elsewhere.
In Oregon, year-to-date compliance check data published last week reports that underage patrons posing as adults were denied access to licensed marijuana establishments nearly 100 percent of the time. By comparison, decoys gained access to alcohol products approximately 80 percent of the time.
