In a unanimous opinion, Justices on the California Supreme Court determined that the state’s “open container” law should not be applied so broadly as to pertain to situations where police find “any loose marijuana” in a motor vehicle.

Approximately 320,000 Oklahomans are registered with the state to access medical cannabis products.
Petitioners counter that they submitted over 1.4 million signatures from Florida voters – far more than the 880,062 signatures necessary to place the measure on the November ballot.
Investigators concluded, “Ongoing efforts to reduce regulatory barriers and legal and criminal consequences of cannabis … have the potential to help reduce overdoses and other opioid-related harms.”
Patients’ overall pain scores decreased more than 30% over the length of the study.
Expert scientific panels from Europe, Australia, and the United Kingdom have previously reached similar determinations.
The decision came despite polling data indicating that a large percentage of Massachusetts’ voters say they would have refused to sign the initiative petition had they better understood its intentions.
Consistent with the findings of prior surveys, most physicians said they were “not comfortable counseling patients of any age about cannabis use.”
