NORML SHOW LIVE Halloweed Special with "The Black Tuna" Robert Platshorn

We’re back in studio this Saturday for our special Halloweed show! Our guest is ROBERT PLATSHORN, a.k.a. “The Black Tuna”. We’ll be discussing his life as America’s longest-imprisoned (30 years) non-violent marijuana offender, once referred to by President Carter’s attorney general as one of the “slickest, most sophisticated pot smugglers of the 70’s.” Read all about it in Platshorn’s book, “The Black Tuna Diaries”.
We’re also broadcasting from the site of NORML’s West Coast Media HQ Halloweed party, with guests such as Oregon NORML‘s Madeline Martinez and UrbAge Designs‘ Scott Gordon. Plus your calls about the scariest marijuana moments in your life. It’s live talk radio from the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.
The show runs from 6pm-8pm Pacific Time (9-11pm Eastern) streaming live at You can call in with your questions and comments at 347-994-1810. Archived episodes of NORML SHOW LIVE are available for download from our site or by subscribing through iTunes.

  1. 30 godforsaken years for smuggling pot? NONviolently?! that is insane by ANY standard. smuggling marijuana without harming anyone deserves the same punishment as someone who killed another person in cold blood? that is just wrong….

  2. Oh ur smokin pot CHA CHING ur goin ta jail how retarted whts next if danylions got u high then they would b illegal

  3. meanwhile, people in Pennsylvania are forced to drink massive quantities of alcohol to cope with their ailments..

  4. “Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man’s appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.” ~Lincoln

  5. NORML PLEASE HELP JEANNIE AND JACK HERER!!! There has got to be something you can do, good lawyers that you know that will do probono work, or something. They’re fucking killing him!
[Editor’s note: What are you talking about?]

  6. promoting drug smuggling isn’t the direction norml should be going
[Editor’s note: NORML interviewing one of the longest serving prisoners in the US for a cannabis-only related offense is not promoting smuggling. Rather, the interview underscores the absurd expense and folly of cannabis prohibition.]

  7. Dude that poor guy. 30 years? if they gave me 30 years for pot i attack the fuckin judge like a feral animal and bite his fuckin face off so my 30 plus years wood be semi justified. but thats just me.

  8. Hey guys I dressed up as a legal marijuana joint for Halloween. Went by the police station and scared the beejeezus out of ’em. They were scared screaming and running and hiding saying they never saw anything so scary as legal marijuana. It was pure craziness.

  9. What is this shit… next thing we’ll be getting 30 years for jay walking. Might as well, its a lot more dangerous than weed.

  10. youd you would think that a comment of black tuna
would cause a panic or leave a taste in the mouth
both, passive fisherman on the coast, halloween ghost.

  11. If prohibitionists want to criminalize a truely dangerous substance, they should take a look at refined sugar. Three decades for dealing cannabis? How much time did those C.I.A. agents get for smuggling tons of cocaine into this country? Oh, sorry, they were working for the U.S. Government.
