NatGeo Revisits Marijuana On Sunday Night At 8PM

You may remember Drugs, Inc. from last year, in which the intricate global chain of supply and demand of drugs such as marijuana and cocaine were chronicled. As a follow-up to those four-episodes, National Geographic Channel will be airing Drugged, a three-part series over two nights that investigates the effects of drugs on the human brain and body:
DRUGGED: High on Marijuana
In the last year, 28 million Americans have rolled a joint, smoked a pipe, sparked up a bong or eaten a pot brownie. Now, follow an entire marijuana high in an adult from start to finish, beginning with the inhalation of cannabis smoke. Using vivid CGI, see how the chemicals slip through a stoned subject’s membranes lining the lungs and into the bloodstream, then on to the heart, up the spine and into the brain. Find out why users get red eyes and the so-called munchies, and explore the difference in the body when cannabis is eaten rather than smoked. We’ll see what role genetics might play in a person’s response to cannabis, take a look at the mysteries of why a high sometimes turns to a low and learn more from the forefront of current marijuana research.
“How Marijuana Works” – What exactly happens to your body when you smoke marijuana?

Most medicines that doctors prescribe, there’s a lot of side effects, there’s a lot of risk and you have to balance out the risk benefit ratio, but with Cannabis it’s very much non-toxic. — Dr. Julie Holland, Author, The Pot Book

    IT’S TIME TO COME CLEAN.
Government has perpetrated this deception long enough. Enough is enough! It’s time to come clean. We the People no longer care what government’s motives are. Good or bad, it’s time to give up this dispicable mendacious fraud.
Too many people “know” the difference between what is true and what is “not true,” Government’s continued posture has become ludacrous. Not only do We the People laff our asses off at government – but – we are taken to anger, and frankly don’t give a damn what government says – because – We the People know it’s a lie. We don’t like to be lied to. In and of itself -that’s pitiful to regard government as useless as they continually flunk out of common sense and reason.
The point is this – “IT’S TIME TO COME CLEAN!” It’s time for government to prove its allegations against cannabis – or – go with the truth. Shit or get off the pot!

  2. I went to that Topix vote thing. The majority of comments for and against Cannabis legalization are specious at best….Come on people, if you want freedom, you need to act reasonably. Saying that it is a plant and not a drug or that god made it for us are piss poor reasons. The is the same kind of intellectually dishonest or lazy reasoning that prohibitionists are using.

  3. I love the way that this “documentary” used false truths and twisted facts to make their point that marijuana is “harmful” or “addictive”. The scene where the kids were taken off of Marijuana and couldn’t sleep, or were easily irritated, or just sad, all of these are psychological addictions, you go through the exact thing when you loose a loved one, or miss your girlfriend, or a any number of other things. I really thought that the use of the word terrorists when the THC enters the brain was a brilliant way to try to deceive people into believing that it was harmful. The part about the tar and carcinogens hurting the lungs, well, yes, marijuana smoke does have some bad tar and carcinogens in it, but the healing effects of the THC counter effect the bad things, so it does not cause damage. They said that smoking through a bong only takes out some of the THC, total lie. The National Cancer Institute in 1988 deduced that smoking tobacco out of a water pipe decreased the amount of tar and carcinogens by as much as 80% without removing a noticeable amount of nicotine. Now, in the show when they were talking about THC not being water soluble, they were correct, this is also true with nicotine. This is not the case with tar and carcinogens. They were talking about how the effects of eating were harder to control the dosage, this may be true, although if you ingest to much cannabis all that will happen is that you will go to sleep. There have been no deaths contributed to marijuana in the over 5000 years of documented use. The part about increasing the heart rate to a possible heart attack? Well it can increase your heart rate, although there have been Zero heart attacks attributed to marijuana. All of the things going on in the lab, you may have noticed that they never used cannabis with high THC content, they always used “a substance that has similar properties”. How can you use something other than cannabis to test with and come up with bad results for cannabis?

  4. God I hate being right. I knew that they could play fair, I knew they needed to lie some more. Sorry to see another 900,000 citizens get screwed because the government can’t follow the Bill of Rights. What sadden me most that many many young men and women who have fought and died for the Constitutio, for the concept of Liberty, and Freedom and it was in vain. They have died not for the protection of the United States and it’s people but for the elite and their money, for profits sake. This is not going to go down very pretty. Dam shame we as human being lack the ability to learn from our mistakes and tyrant like behavior. And like I say above I knew NatGeo wasn’t going to tell the truth. The lies deepen, distrust rises, violence increses with each day the corruption continues, gee, I wonder what is on the next page of this bullshit story.

  5. Cannabis is so wonderful, so relaxing, so good on the senses, it makes everything so much more vivid and important. It causes me to be much more contrite. I love it. I cannot say that about booze or tobacco, which I no longer use. So how can these prohibition laws continue? Cannabis WAS legal in the U.S. It’s time to get back to that.

  6. Marijuana does not “hijack the brain like an herbal terrorist” it just makes the in-flight movie more interesting!

  7. This program was so upsetting to me that I pulled a Rachel Maddow, and did some research about NatGeo. I wanted to understand what would motivate them to produce such a dispicable program. I found that NatGeo is owned by News Corp, or Rupert Murdoch, who also owns Fox News. He and his son are good friends, and business partners with Big Pharma. His son James Murdoch, is on the Board of Directors for News Corp and is non executive director of GlaxoSmithKline. I could not believe my eyes when I read that! Plus, they get billions of dollars of advertising from Big Pharma and would do whatever is required to keep a good relationship with them. Anti-marijuana propaganda posed as a factual documentary has Big Pharma written all over it!

  8. After Time put the article out for “Americajuana” in November 2010, pressure was put on editors to make more propaganda so people won’t support it. If the government cannot own the almighty seed, then nobody can own it.

  9. Oh, and after further research– News Corp is owned by Saudi Oil! Prince Alwaleed bin Talal al-Saud of Saudi Arabia, through his Kingdom Holding Company, owns 7% of News Corp.’s shares, making Kingdom Holdings the second largest shareholder.

  10. Well, I haven’t seen the Marijuana segment of the “Drugged” series but I have seen the MDMA and Cocaine ones. Neither the MDMA nor Cocaine documentaries seem to have a bias against the drugs. In fact, after watching the Cocaine documentary I walked away feeling like it’s safer than what the Ad Council (they get paid to lie) and Government say. After reading through these comments about the Cannabis documentary I don’t even want to watch it now. Both the Cocaine and MDMA docs. seemed filled with scientific data and real information (Read: truth). However the Cannabis doc. seems like it will just be another not-completely-against Cannabis but definitely has a negative tone towards it.

  11. “I thought we were all in this fight together.” It’s not going to be much of a fight, let alone a victory, if we keep throwing punches at each other. Frankly, I’m tired of hearing the dems and libs throw rocks at the repubs and the conservatives, and vice versa. I’m tired of the old picking on the young, and the young returning fire. I’m most tired of the pot-phobic prohibs unleashing their unbelievable amount of bullshit on us…I say, I say – us. We are not without guilt in our attacks on them. If we…I say, I say – we intend to prevail, we will do it with the numbers game. We will out number them – but – we will do it standing and focused together – not divided throwing pissy little remarks at each other.

  12. It was a JOKE.
Obviously they haven’t seen the “botany of desire” on PBS. Receptors ARE NOT HIJACKED. There are actually special receptors JUST FOR Cannabinoids….
I knew it would be bias BS, as soon as I saw that Disney was paying for the commercials.

  13. the way they mis-portrayed cannabis in that Documentary was sad. Different century…same ol Reefer-madness BS. The “brain terrorist” comment was uncalled for and HIGHLY offensive to everybody from stoners to activists to…even the real terrorists were offended(not that I give a sh!t what they think), but still.
P.S. where’s Michael Phelps when ya need him?

  14. been smokin since 1977. 1973,1978, 1981 the science and politics was done to put a bill on the president’s desk. biggest conclusion, the sanctions against pot are doing more damage to the society than the substance itself is. by 1981 tho, ronny reagan was pres and i hope i’m not the only one who paid attention. we’ve come full circle again. 235 years ago we wanted amandate to protect us from big government. today we need a mandate to protect us from bigg business. follow the money. invest in drug testing (not really). i trust a democrat as far as i can throw a republican. the middle class is not a natural occurrence in a free market society. global capitalism is an arrogant sham. now i know why people fly airplanes into buildings.

  15. This video couldn’t say it any better. Weed just makes you feel good and it relaxes you. There is little risk to smoking it. The government needs to sell it instead of wasting billions to get rid of it and it could free up the prisons too.

  16. OMG! I never realized how dangerous this plant is! After watching this program, I’ve stopped smoking all together. For God’s sake, I hope the government keeps this dangerous drug ILLEGAL!!!! So many lives have been destroyed already. It makes sense now! All the bad things that have happen to me is due to MARIJUANA. Thank God for Alcohol!!! It’s way more safer to drink than smoke that awful, disgusting plant…
    *sarcasm* 😉

  17. President Obama on Thursday called drug legalization “an entirely legitimate topic for debate,” but quickly added “I am not in favor of legalization.” my response is simply, Put Up or Shut Up Mr. President! The debate you claim is “an entirely legitimate topic for debate,” is long over due. We the People have been a……sking this Government to give us this debate and debate this issue like reasonable human beings. The government’s response has “shocked the sense of fair play,” they have openly lied and mis-informed the general public for since 1937. Mr. President we want this debate! We dare you to set this in motion and since you clearly stated, “not in favor of legalization”, you and your party should put up or shut up and defend Prohibition. We the People will bring it on, set the ground, we’ll debate who ever you send. All we ask is that it be live and transparent to the public.
