Through much of the year, Colorado’s Amendment 64 has enjoyed a comfortable lead in the polls. As election day nears, as was to be expected, we are seeing the race tighten. Polling data just released by the Denver Post has Amendment 64 holding onto a small lead, with 48% in support, 43% opposed, and 9% still undecided.
We can close the gap needed for victory and win over undecided voters, but with only a few weeks left until Election Day on November 6th, we are going to need your help. The key to making sure our supporters get out to vote and to persuading those not sure on the measure, is an increased effort on the part of grassroots outreach. To further this mission, NORML is joining with SSDP and the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol to sponsor an online phone banking program.
Using this intuitive website, you can sign up and begin calling voters in support of Amendment 64 today! Everything you need is provided. You will be presented with the name and phone number of a registered Colorado voter and given a step by step script to follow. The nice thing about Amendment 64 is that it defines a legal consumer as over 21. I live in the UK and Alcohol is available to buy at age 18 (and it is legal to buy it on behalf of someone who is 16). So when young people start college their social life is very heavily focused around drinking which sets up bad behaviour patterns for life. Making the legal age 21 (for alcohol or marijuana) gives a young person a few more years to get established in life before developing drug habits. Young people do think just that little bit more at 21 rather than 18.
I really hope it passes and I know you guys are ready for the fight with the Feds. I think they are sure that there is a legal challenge but if they try it then (US) national public opinion will be against them. On this issue America is really starting to remember what once made it great – the pioneering spirit of the west.
Colorado looks like a beautiful place and I am sure many people will come and visit you if ( NO W-H-E-N !!) this law passes.
It will be nice to hear Marijuana was just a smoke screen to hide the hemp fields.
I worry that posting this on NORML’s blog and social media will not attract enough volunteers to make a difference. We need to spend some funds recruiting volunteers, or even hiring some employees (like with a call center) to make these calls.

and if your a real die hard and you get a chance to support what you truly stand for signing up and doing a little extra work for a change in human ignorance should be worth every minute of those few calls. so forget the paying for people to do this in a call center, we have real people with real tangible feelings that can do real good to let the rest of the money be spent in other productive ways for the general public.

I think the advertising for the phone-bank work for non-residents is a damn-good idea (I am definitely going to make some calls!). Unsure if coldcalls will be that effective, but the idea of getting people from other places to work on this campaign is a good one for the cause, which I WHOLEHEARTEDLY SUPPORT.
But, does it undermine federalism? Should we resort to the same tactics as the neoconservatives we hope to oust from government?
This is not good With 48 support and 43 against it And with 9 undecided. I am sure they have hire some big gun advertisement firm to do the work. If the poll read 64 support and 43 against then It would look like we would win. But as it reads out now We are not going to win.
The monetary aspect of legalization is unquestionable – and is thoroughly backed up by the mild version of legitimacy afforded to the mmj patients of Colorado.
Politicians and leaders, many of whom work for regions with budget issues need to look into the value of legalization.
Cannabis consumption is a God given right-
and the money associated with its transactions is infinitely better used by our society than the drug lords who invest nothing into bettering our lands.
Think about it-
I think what a lot of people missed was that in recent years, Colorado has become THE PLACE for wealthier people to relocate to, which is bringing a conservative bias to the state. Worse, Colorado is becoming more and more expensive, and people who were born and raised there are leaving the state in order to go where the jobs are and where the cost of living is supportable.
I doubt the proponents of A64 considered this.
Oh I’m really worried. If 48% are in support and 43% opposed and 9% undecided, does that mean 48% pass and 52% fail? In other words, even if support goes up to 49%, and undecided 42%, and 9% undecided, do we still win? Or does the 42 and 9 become 51 and then lose? Ultimately there will be no undecideds on election day (unless they opt out of voting on the question) – so most of that 9% will fall to either YES or NO. It isn’t probable we will lose undecideds by 100% – but this only emphasizes our need to phone bank and canvass. Even if we can influence it so that undecideds break 2 to 1 towards NO, we still win.
Of those who are still undecided at this point, the majority will most likely find themselves lacking the motivation to go to the polls. of those few who do the numbers should shake out about the same as the rest of the population at large; Right around 50:50 with a slight tilt in our direction. But we are losing ground. Whatever lies are being peddled need to be negated because they are changing the momentum and possibly the outcome as well. Good luck to those of you who are fighting our battle on the front lines.

Fed-up, the folks on the right run around like Chicken Little’s babbling about how were losing our rights, but they then turn around and back the Patriot Act. s-501 had some stupid language in it and it was removed, and it doesn’t stop you from growing food. Some chicken little just thinks it does.
Remember how they couldn’t figure out where the contamination was coming from? First they thought it was tomatoes, then spinach? It took weeks to track it down. s-510 is there to help fix this deficiency.
The feds can, should and will grant exeptions for marijuana. They say they cannot, but that’s just because the person saying it is full of shit. how can the same government say they cannot grant exemptions of marijuana when they already grant exemptions of every other law we have? We have a “No Child Left Behind Act” that Virginia thinks should actually be “We Will Leave This Child Act” and was giving exemptions so they are not required to treat childern of different ethnicities the same. This is exactly the opposite what the law says. If Virginia can has the balls to ask for an exemption from stopping racism in their education system even in the face of a federal law that says, “Hell no, you can’t!” and receive it; why can’t we get exemptions for Pot???
What is more important? Giving childern a good start in life or stopping folk from enjoying weed? How does exempting racism “send the right message”? I’d like an answer that doesn’t read like a line from South Park.

But ill try to answer your first statement.
As far as s-510 goes,i do see some simularities, with early cannabis prohibition and what their doing now with this particular food bill. On the surface through the media it is( was made to be a public health concern. With marihuana,people where going to go insane and have interacial sex and play fast abstract jazz solos(the last one might have been true)–scare tactics. But below the surface , the real motivations had more to do with Hemp’s threat to the textile industries- DuPont along with William Randolph Hearst who basicaly owned the newspaper media at that time,had an obvious vested-interest.
Now,as far as S-510 is concerned there has been a lot of hype concerning contamination of food crops (most of witch have to do with improper food storage and not with the actual production) At the present time this bill only effects farmers that make over $500,000 a year.But what is interesting is the clause about not being able to save or produce your own seeds.WTF does that have to do with food contamination ? Absolutely nothing! It has to do with Monsantos desire to own all the seed DNA on the planet through the use of patents. So i do see parallels between cannabis prohibition and this food safety bill having to do with corperate monopolies and the media hype that serves their purposes.
Back to the topic of this thread: Like i already said, this is a rare opportunity to reverse a lot evil that has been done through the “drug war” it is not a war on drugs its a war on the people.So i hope everybody takes advantage of this opportunity that is presented to them.

It is better to legalize this drug to enforce the law and courts to allow the drug. I am in CA and was protected in 2007 when busted for marijuana cultivation and I was prosecuted and convicted because the court denied me the use of the medical marijuana defense. In the appeal the court was said to have given me an unfair trial and ordered to vacate the conviction with allowance to them to retry the case, they cannot retry now in that the evidence I have a doctors approval since 2000 is assure and my grow was in all legal limit and absolutely legal yet I spent 13 months in jail, and was on probation over 4 years, I was fined 2141 dollar and later they added to the fine some near 1500 more after I paid the fine in full! What a bunch of crap these court judges and all these vile DA,s and lawyer jerk offs, the whole society that allows them to get away with these crimes against one of God,s Beast’s a Man, I ask diligently every day for my God to curse the whole nation and world, the ones I detest and loath who did me evil I pray all manner of evil befall their lot in great abundance with many tears from the God of Abraham and I.

Those clowns in congress kept repealing the Romney/Obama Health Care Act, when they should have been fixing the way genes are patented, if they even should be.
I guess in some stupid derivative mindset, if one can pretend evolution isn’t real, then the dangers of making novel life forms which will continue to evolve and/or act as vectors spreading their mutated genes everywhere can also be discounted. The weeds breed faster and so evolve faster than the crops, there is no way for Monsanto’s “innovations” to stay ahead of the curve. They are literally breeding herbicide resistant weeds and pesticide resistant insects that we will not be able to control in the future. They should be stopped.
