VA NORML Adopts a Highway

A huge congratulations is due to NORML’s state chapter in the Old Dominion.  Last week, Virginia NORML joined the ranks of the the Kiwanis Club and the Cub Scouts when they posted the first NORML “Adopt-a-Highway” sign in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  And while they didn’t get highway 420 (located in Alexandria), they did get a nice segment in Northern Virginia west of the DC beltway, and just 20 miles north of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).  The Northern Virginia regional affiliate, NOVA NORML has organized the first clean up to take place Sunday September 29th, 2013 at 11am.  Volunteers will be meeting near Dulles International Airport, at the corner of Woodland Rd and Severn Way.  We encourage all NOVA supporters to come out and get involved.

VIRGINIA STATE CONFERENCE:  In addition, Virginia NORML will also be holding a statewide conference on Saturday October 5th near the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, Va.  It will feature well-known experts in cannabis law and policy, as well as longtime Virginia marijuana activists. Speakers include the associate director of the National Commission on Marihuana and Drug Abuse (1971-73) and secretary of the first National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse (1975-80), Richard Bonnie (professor, University of Virginia), former National NORML executive director Jon Gettman, and current Virginia gubernatorial candidate Robert Sarvis (libertarian).  Conference tickets and additional information available here.

  1. already bought my ticket!

I can’t wait for VA to start fitting in with the rest of the world, god knows people (including myself) need it.

  2. Though it’s a really cool thing for them to do, I really hope the media doesn’t turn it around by associating it with drugged driving. As rediculous as it would be, it wouldn’t be the lowest they’ve stooped.

  3. A really great thing to do – It shows marijuana users can be decent, hard working citizens who care about their community. Too many negative stereotypes still exist and initiatives like this will help to dispel them.

  4. VIRGINIA! It might be small but this guy if fighting 2 real shitheads and is making some inroads on their turf. Send him a like and a few bucks.

Here is a quote from /issues
I propose legalizing marijuana in Virginia, decriminalizing harder drugs, and adopting a rational, evidence-based regulatory policy.

  5. To all Virginians – Please vote for Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis if you ever want to have cannabis legal in VA!!!

He is the only candidate running for Governor who has shown any semblance of intelligence on this issue, Voting for him, even if he doesn’t win, will send a message to the prohibitionist candidates!

Cuchinelli and McAuliffe both seem to want to continue the status quo of rounding us up and locking us up,

  6. Virginians – Don’t vote for McAulliffe or Cuchinelli since both want to continue the status quo of rounding up cannabis consumers and locking them up.

Vote for Robert Sarvis as the Libertarian candidate who is the only person running for Gov of VA who wants to change the marijuana laws for the better! Even if he doesn’t win, if he gets a lot of votes it will send a strong message to the Democratic and Republican parties that we are tired of their prohibitionist stand on this important issue!

  7. Have you ever wondered why the Feds have targeted the California Medical Marijuana clinics so harshly. It’s because of Melinda (Hag) Haag!!! She hates marijuana users and has plans to continue the crackdown no matter what. I wish someone would educate that dumb b@tch!

US Attorney Melinda Haag to Continue Crackdown Despite White House Directive…

She’s not an attractive woman but she is even more unattractive on the inside!

  8. Go NORML’s Virginia chapter! Well done! Joining the ranks of such reputable organizations as the Cub Scouts of America should bolster the already credible reputation of NORML and the movement it supports. Keep up the good work guys and gals. We applaud your efforts!

  9. We are unable to get this current administration to take responsibility for their own behavior as well as those under their direction. Ignoring the patients needs and the medical communities responsibilities because of the profits of control and subjugation has led this nation to a point where people die every day due to medications misuse. Why did the prohibitionists think the waving of a wand of deceptions would erase thousands of years that cannabis medications were helping patients. People’s own experience with cannabis has taught a truth our culture has begrudgenly accepted, while contollers/prohibitionists continue to claim ignorance as a virtue.

  10. @Mark – LOL regarding the prohibitionists claiming ignorance as a virtue!

I’ve seen this idiocy many times by self-righteous arrogant people.

FACTOID – The more educated someone is regarding marijuana, the more likely they are to support legalization. The stupidest among us continue to cling to the reefer madness propaganda (like Mitt Romney and many employed by the DEA).

  11. Would everyone that appreciates the efforts of Norml across the nation, and especially PA donate. If everyone, each individual would send just one or ten dollars, less than a lunch out, and when the dust settled there would be a big bunch of money, millions, to help Norml Pennsylvania help us on the journey to Legalize the medicine and help our nation get it’s head on straight again in regards to what is right/Norml.
