Sixty percent of registered Virginians favor allowing for the sale of adult-use marijuana products by licensed retailers, according to statewide polling data compiled by The Wason Center at Christopher Newport University.
“With his veto, Governor Youngkin has stripped Virginians of the reliable, direct-to-patient delivery services on which they have relied for years.”
“Once again, Governor Youngkin has prioritized his personal politics over public safety, opting to keep control of Virginia’s marijuana market squarely in the hands of unregulated operators.”
“Every year that we do not enact retail sales in Virginia for adult use marijuana is another year that the Commonwealth is choosing to continue ceding control of the marijuana market to untaxed, illicit operators.”
The language, which creates two new misdemeanors, will take effect with Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin’s signature.
With the 2022 legislative session having already ended, this vote effectively ends any further discussion of the legislation this year.
The Governor has proposed an amendment in the nature of a substitute to SB 591 which would create two new misdemeanors for personal marijuana possession.
