Members of the New Jersey state Assembly approved legislation to decriminalize the possession and distribution of up to two ounces of marijuana by adults.
Sixty-one percent of respondents said that they will vote for the measure, which amends the state Constitution to permit the possession, production, and retail sale of cannabis to those age 21 or older.
Justices opined, “Because we conclude the order does not require [employers] to possess, manufacture or distribute marijuana, but only to reimburse petitioner for his purchase of medical marijuana, we discern no conflict between the CSA (federal Controlled Substances Act) and MMA (the New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act).”
“This will make it possible for thousands of residents now and in the future to truly be able to turn the corner and not have long forgotten mistakes marking them like a ‘scarlet letter’ for the rest of their lives.”
Super-majorities of the New Jersey Assembly and Senate have decided to place a marijuana legalization ballot question before voters in 2020.
NJ lawmakers plan to put question regarding a constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana before state voters during the 2020 election.
As New Jersey continues to fail its constituents each day they do not pass cannabis legalization for adult-use, the name of one state senator at the forefront of the fight against legalization remains permanently inked in shame: State Senator Ron Rice of the 28th District.
