NORML’s State Policies Manager Jax James said: “Continuing to define cannabis as contraband in Delaware is not in the public’s interest. It is vital that the legislature push back and override Gov. Carney’s veto.”
The legislation, if enacted, would have shielded an estimated 200,000 low-level marijuana convictions from public view.
Under the proposed measure, patients registered with the state’s medical cannabis access program would be permitted to grow up to three mature cannabis plants at home. Currently, qualified patients are only permitted to obtain medical cannabis from a limited number of state-licensed dispensaries.
Governor Phil Scott (R) vetoed S. 22 to all eliminate penalties for the possession and cultivation of personal use amounts of marijuana by July 2018.
Republican Gov. Susana Martinez has vetoed legislation, House Bill 527, which would have greatly expanded the state’s decade-old medical cannabis program. This is the third marijuana-related bill the Governor has vetoed this legislative session.
