Virginia NORML is thrilled to provide a direct line to the policymakers, researchers, and advocates who are championing cannabis policy reform in the Commonwealth, especially in light of the opportunities the 2021 Virginia General Assembly session presents for proposed legislation.
Of the 15 states that have now enacted adult-use legalization, 13 have done so by voter initiative. Many states, however, do not offer a citizens’ initiative option — meaning that the only way to enact substantive marijuana reform is through the legislative process.
“Governor Northam has always been thoughtful in his approach to cannabis policy. We look forward to continuing our work with the administration and the legislature to ‘get this right.”
This is another victory for commonsense marijuana law reform in Virginia.
Virginia NORML today reiterated its call that state lawmakers expeditiously move forward in 2021 with legislation legalizing and regulating the adult-use marijuana market.
“This day could not come soon enough. Virginia NORML has been on the front lines of this effort every step of the way, and I’m so proud of our members’ tireless work to make this a reality.”
Included in legislation being considered this special session are a number marijuana-related objectives which have advanced in both the Senate and House of Delegates thus far.
