Nevada: Governor Signs Legislation Raising Marijuana Possession Limits

Carson City, NV: Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo has signed legislation (SB 277) into law increasing the total amount of cannabis adults may legally purchase and possess.

Provisions in the new law allow adults to legally obtain up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis flower (up from ounce) and/or up to one-quarter of an ounce of concentrates (up from one-eighth of an ounce) from licensed retailers. Other provisions in the law permit licensed retailers to dually serve adults and patients, and also allow for those with prior convictions to apply to work in the licensed cannabis industry.

The new possession limits take effect on January 1, 2024.

Nevada voters approved a statewide ballot initiative in 2016 legalizing the adult-use cannabis market. Voters initially decided in favor of an initiative legalizing the production and distribution of medical cannabis in 2000.
