Oregon: Legislation Permitting Patients To Consume Medical Cannabis in Healthcare Facilities Advances to Governor’s Desk

Salem, OR: Lawmakers have advanced legislation to the Governor’s desk permitting qualified patients to consume certain medical cannabis products in eligible residential healthcare facilities.

The proposal, HB 4142, requires designated facilities that provide either hospice or palliative care to accommodate medical cannabis use by state-licensed cardholders on their premises. Facility employees would also be required to undergo cannabis-specific training before providing care to eligible patients.

House members approved the bill by a vote of 39 to 3. Members of the Senate voted in favor of the measure 20 to 8.

If enacted, the law will take effect on January 1, 2027.

Similar legislation is pending in several other states, including Colorado, ConnecticutHawaii, Virginia, and Washington.
