While covering stories for NORML’s Daily Audio Stash, I’ve noticed a trend lately in stories involving parents treating childhood mental health conditions like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism.
(ABC’s Good Morning America, click link for video) Given the many challenges involved in raising an autistic child, parents are willing to try a variety of potential remedies, many of which are controversial and unproven.
[Meiko] Hester-Perez made her decision to try giving her 10-year-old son, Joey Perez, medical marijuana after his weight had become dangerously low due to his unwillingness to eat. She said that at the time she began the approach, he weighed only 46 pounds.
But just hours after she gave him one of the pot-infused brownies, she said she could see a change — both in his appetite and demeanor.
She added that her son used to take a cocktail of medications, three times every day, for his condition. He now takes only three, and he has a marijuana brownie once every two or three days.
“I saved my son’s life, and marijuana saved my son’s life…” said Hester-Perez.
(New York Times) Several Bay Area doctors who recommend medical marijuana for their patients said in recent interviews that their client base had expanded to include teenagers with psychiatric conditions including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
…[Medical m]arijuana advocates maintain that it is also safer than methylphenidate (Ritalin), the stimulant prescription drug most often used to treat A.D.H.D. That drug has documented potential side effects including insomnia, depression, facial tics and stunted growth.
In Berkeley, Dr. Frank Lucido said he was questioned by the medical board but ultimately not disciplined after he authorized marijuana for a 16-year-old boy with A.D.H.D. who had tried Ritalin unsuccessfully and was racking up a record of minor arrests.
Within a year of the new treatment, he said, the boy was getting better grades and was even elected president of his special-education class. “He was telling his mother: ‘My brain works. I can think,’ ” Dr. Lucido said.
(DoubleX.com) My son J has autism. He’s also had two serious surgeries for a spinal cord tumor and has an inflammatory bowel condition, all of which may be causing him pain, if he could tell us.
[S]ince we started him on his “special tea,” J’s little face, which is sometimes a mask of pain, has softened. He smiles more.
Pre-pot, J. ate things that weren’t food. There’s a name for this: pica. … His pica become so uncontrollable we couldn’t let him sleep with a pajama top (it would be gone by morning) or a pillow (ditto the case and the stuffing)…
Almost immediately after we started the cannabis, the pica stopped. Just stopped. J. now sleeps with his organic wool-and-cotton, hypoallergenic, temptingly chewable comforter.
Next, we started seeing changes in J.’s school reports. … At one parent meeting in August (J. is on an extended school year), his teacher excitedly presented his June-July “aggression” chart. An aggression is defined as any attempt or instance of hitting, kicking, biting, or pinching another person. For the past year, he’d consistently had 30 to 50 aggressions in a school day, with a one-time high of 300. The charts for June through July, by contrast, showed he was actually having days—sometimes one after another—with zero aggressions.
The anecdotal evidence keeps showing some remarkable results for some young patients in treating the symptoms of these mental health disorders. However, it is important to note that it is, at this stage, just anecdotal evidence. There is a paucity of studies researching the use of cannabis for these disorders in children and teens, owing in large part to the government’s placement of cannabis on Schedule I. The only research generally allowed on cannabis in America is to show the dangers of its use, not its medical benefits.
At NORML, we are adamant about the ending of marijuana prohibition for all adults. While we may quibble about the definition of “adult” being age 18 or age 21, we are definitely in agreement that under age 18, cannabis use should be limited strictly to medical cases with doctor’s supervision. Cannabis is certainly not a harmless substance — no physically and mind-altering substance is — and there is some research data available showing potential detrimental mental health effects among young chronic cannabis users.
That said, medical use of cannabis for minors is still a thorny subject, even here at NORML. We are reminded of our advisory board member, Dr. Lester Grinspoon, who monitored his pre-teen son’s successful use of cannabis during leukemia treatments. Certainly youth medical marijuana use in that scenario – a child wasting away in pain dying from cancer – sets one end of the cost/benefit spectrum. Clearly the benefits outweigh the risks. But as we examine medical marijuana use for mental health disorders, especially where conventional drugs and behavioral therapies have already been proven successful, we reach the other end of the spectrum where the decisions are more difficult.
One thing on which we can all agree is that there needs to be much more medical research into this issue. We encourage Congress and the President to take the advice of the AMA from two weeks ago which urged that “the Schedule I status of marijuana be reviewed with the goal of facilitating clinical research and development of cannabinoid-based medicines, and alternate delivery methods.”
Another point of agreement: arresting, fining, and imprisoning parents and doctors who are agonizing over health care decisions involving cannabis therapies for their children is unnecessary and cruel.

Download today’s NORML Daily Audio Stash (http://stash.norml.org/stash-for-mon-nov-23-2009) to hear me and NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano discuss these issues in our “Behind the Headlines” segment.
I saw that this morning. I loved the psychiatrist at the end who said it was a “dangerous drug” and her child was getting “stoned.” Hey lady, ya ever try zoloft?
But geez, is there anything this wonder herb can’t do? No wonder Big Business and Big Pharma are shaking in their boots. they have a lot to fear.
When does there get to be so much “anecdotal evidence” that it becomes research data?
“and there is some research data available showing potential detrimental mental health effects among young chronic cannabis users.”
I would love to see the source of this research. I’m very curious what the detrimental mental health effects are.
What the hell does that doctor know about anything? STONED? THINK ABOUT ALL THE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS that can harm people by just taking a bit over the prescribed amount. ADDICTED? you cannot become physically addicted to marijuana. I wish these assholes would do their research before they start spouting off bullshit
This is truly fantastic news!
I truly hope that this information receives A LOT of attention and helps to move the decision to tax and legalize the sale of marijuana to responsible adults closer to reality. . .once legalized, I’m CERTAIN that greater research could be done with greater ease and possibly help to bring an end to mysterious diseases such as cancer and autism.
End Slavery. . .
Legalize NOW!!!!
Unfortunately, there will only be more anecdotal evidence than actual research since the DEA holds the key for the approval of marijuana research. In order to get the key, your research has to prove that marijuana is “bad”.
im all for it,if it helps then do it,at least hes not smoken it..but eating..safe as hell
its tough…dont get me wrong, it should be legal, but this goes RIGHT into the argument anti medical pot people spew…Its tough…this hits home for me being one that grew up in a situation where I couldve used medical marijuana but…in order to pass it first legally medically…we may need to shoot for 21 and up…
Our government has marijuana listed as schedule 1 with no acceptable medical use. Apparently marijuana is much worse than PCP and Cocaine.
Either that our our government has been lobbied out of control and is full of a bunch of idiots.
Legalize it this is getting a bit ridiculous already. Marijuana is a natural herb that is much safer than tobacco and cigarettes and has medical as well as recreational uses that cause no harm. The illegality of cannabis makes no sense and it needs to END NOW.
Don’t let ignorance, and ignorance alone get in the way of common sense!
It depends on the strain I think. Not all herb is good for autism, or anything else. Different strains do different things and I think that needs to be understood and people should be aware of it before any research is done.
That’s a heartwarming story, I can’t believe there is still that stigma on cannabis. I wish all these people who oppose marijuana have something happen to them where marijuana would benefit them, then we’ll see how opposed they are when they’re in the position to use marijuana or live in pain.
In response to stephen, I was against marijuana all of high school. I’ve had scoliosis since I was 15 and would go to the chiropractor at least 3 times a week. I am now 19 and had been using for the past 8 months. At fist it was just something I tried and enjoyed in college for recreational use, then I notice how it relieve the pain in my back dramatically. It relaxed my muscles and allowed me to sleep better at night and enjoy sports more. I am now suspended from school for possessing 10g and am facing 6 months of probation and am in drug rehab, my back is also the worst it has been in years.
The prohibition on marijuana needs to stop. It’s doing all harm and no good.
as much as i dont like to wish things upon people Stephen has a point
I think it will be hard for the big time politicians to see that it needs to have a spotlight in national matters for the time being, individual states need to continue to pass medical laws and continue to decriminalize farther east in the united states and get into the bible belt states before anything will be done nationally.
Continue the fight, call local law makers and do your own research so people fighting for reformation aren’t stigmatized as “stoners who just want to get high”
Absolutely, Paul, the right strain is critical. I, have a 12 year old child with a genetic condition very similar to Autism. He receives one tsp of cannabis infused oil every morning before school. He is more focused, less agitated, and the aggressions and outbursts are sharply diminished. I have noticed lots of great mental developement and am deeply encouraged by the effects of “Nature’s perfect medicine.” I sleep well at night knowing that my child is getting the safest most effective medicine, that I can grow myself.
Once folks begin to mentally disconnect from the “Cheech and Chong” image and begin a new perspective on the many uses of this wonderous, all purpose plant, then maybe we will see the end of this ridiculous prohibition.
The Chinese once called this herb, Ma or Tai Ma. The GREAT MOTHER.
I think thats an EXCELLENT point about strain type…as someone with neuropathy/nerve pain/degen nerve disorder…I understand as much as anyone that…1/10 of strains do what I need them to do, all get you stoned, but thats not the goal…
we need to set the line between med and rec use, AND we need to seriously look into tinctures to replace smoked cannabis…then we can control the dose/thc intake
I agree that THC can be used to help in many medical ways.
As I grew up my parents thought that I was using drugs at a really young age but I was clean. My grades were bad and I admit I was an out of control child. After I started using the “natural” wonder at the age 17 I settled down went to College and graduated with a 3.95 average. Cannabis helps me in so may ways it is not funny!
Legalization would hurt pharmaceutical companies because it is a GREAT medicine, but there will be a rise in other areas of economy. Coffee shops, good restaurants, and recreation of other sorts.
Legalization would eliminate the poor quality budd that is smuggled into the US and who knows what is in this nasty stuff coming from the country down south. Let us citizens of the USA have the good quality budd we want! FOR OUR OWN HEALTH…PLEASE!!!
The sativa plant is on this earth for a reason!
Marijuana saved my son’s life. Thank goodness a child that cannot speak for himself got the proper treatment.
Amazing and sad that ignorant Prohibs want to continue to deny the vast usefulness of cannabis. And sorry, there is adequate research, always has been adequate research. When will the denial end?
I saw the video this morning on GMA/ABC news…..Legalization—C’mon baby lite my fire!!!!
Or, rather….nibble my cookies.
i pray never to have to know the pain of having a autistic child i’ve seen the work that goes into special need kids and anything that brings relief for the kid is a good thing. whats big brother worried about the autistic kids wont be able to hold a job and pay taxes hum some might think the condition would prevent that not a dirty piss test
these parents should be ashamed giving pot to a autistic kid i cant believe they would want to save there child from any extra pain in life i know if it was my son whom needed it i would sit by his bed and read the law and tell him that daddy doesn’t love him enough to give him the safest drug known to mankind nope he should be patriotic and obey the laws of man while he dies
I’ll bet dollars to donuts that if (we) could ever piece together an investigation of what/who actually brought about the prohibition of marijuana AND hemp in the 30s, we would find a conspiracy comparable to those behind the Federal Reserve/World Bank monopolization of money, and the Military Industrial Complex driving endless wars of death and destruction across the globe. I’m fucking tired of it.
Honestly, if my son grew up to have some mental issues, I think I would be more likely to want to try cannabis rather than pharmaceuticals. Obviously this can only really be determined on a case by case basis. One thing doesn’t work for everyone. This really comes down to the fact that the DEA and government need to pull their heads out of their asses and at the very least let people actually study this.
This blog post is bittersweet. It is truly inspiring to hear so many people finding an effective medication for ailments previously thought not treatable. It is disheartening to hear so many people treated like criminals for simply caring enough about their children to exhaust all possible avenues of treatment. Especially when that treatment doesn’t leave you physically dependent and has minimal side effects.
These types of success stories should be on the tongues of every active supporter of marijuana legalization. People need to voice their honest opinions without the fear that comes with broaching a taboo subject.
POT = excellent study drug!
Ok, first let me give some background info. I was a straight A student in high school. No criminal record. Got into college on a full academic scholarship. I smoked weed occasionally since high school. In college I breezed through the easy courses, but started to struggle in the more in depth ones. Accounting is where it all came together. I would smoke while I studied and before I took a test. I got the highest grade in the class, and my worst test score was from when I didn’t smoke before I took it. I thought it was cool that I could get high and do well in school.
Then I stopped because I wanted to go into law enforcement after college. But as I was pursuing that, I decided to go to law school. The first year was a bitch. I was falling behind in all my readings and couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t keep up while everyone else did.
I went to the school mental health counselor, who diagnosed me with adult ADD. Unfortunately, because he worked through the school, he could not prescribe me any controlled substances, such as adderall. So I went to another doctor, and without telling about the first, he came up with the same diagnosis and I was prescribed adderall.
It works and does its job just fine. But it will keep you up at night if you take it too late, so to counteract this, I would drink when done studying in order to fall asleep.
I recently began smoking again, and love it. I don’t even take that pill crap anymore, but smoke (actually vape now with the Hot Box and LOVE IT) and fell so much better.
I don’t know if pot has been studied for it’s effects on ADD, but I for one am a believer and would recommend it. (I’m not talking about getting crazy stoned, though. Just a nice mild high.) Enjoy.
My step daughter- now an adult- was told to use marijuana by her doctor when she 13- to treat her epilepsy. She often would just need to chew on a piece of stem. She will still smoke small amounts when it is available. She no longer has seizures. I don’t care if it is anecdotal- it is real for her, that is all that really matters in the end.
I think this will be used(children useing pot) by anti-pot people. All they have to do is throw this topic out there. Anybody, including my, first impresion is children shouldnt be useing marijuana. Once the article is read then it is understood that in extreme cases it is helpful. But it comes across totally wrong to some people. I feel this is a tactic by the oposition. 21 and up should be stressed, they will try to make it sound like we condone children useing marijuana. I have 2 young daughters. When they are of age it is their choice, like alcohol, the accepted ddrug. But we must be cautious as to the atempts of prohabitionist attempts to smoke screen and twist the truth.
And I should really use spell check…srry.
I think it’s good the article said “medical marijuana” and that the kid used it. However it also shows how big pharma has really taken over so much of what people say and do.
let me share a story. my son has add and bipolar his dr up his med when he was 5 he woke me and my wife up saying bugs where all over him (he was tripping) while we where sleeping he took ant killer spray and sprayed it all over himself and his room. if he sprayed it in his mouth he would have poisend himself. how safe is that at 5 years old and he haveing a trip this made me very angry 1 at the dr for upping his med 2 for marijuana not legal i told my wife who does not smoke nor never has, but she knows that i do. that if this does not change im going to let him try marijuana. its alot safer then this. luckly he has gotten his meds controled and he only takes 2 pills a day he is 9 years old now. and he tells us everyday he hates takeing all these pills. when he is old anough and can make his own decison i will talk to him about marijuana and see if he would like to see how that helps him. i refuse to let the dr up his meds anymore.
It is unconstitutional and inhumane to deprive people of treatment that works for them. Prohibitionists should be ashamed of themselves.
For the life of me,I can not figure out why people think getting high is wrong. Even animals like to get high. If you don’t like getting high, then don’t do the drugs, alcohol either. Just because you don’t like getting high, why should everyone else stop? Where is it written that high is wrong?
It reminds me of Ronnie and Nancy, when they got too old to screw, they tried to scare the rest of America into quitting sex, with herpes. When everyone didn’t get scared, along came aids. I am not saying aids isn’t a terrible disease, but I still believe it was used as a propaganda tool to scare people out of the sexual revolution, trying to mold the population to fit the moral ideology of the ruling party. As far as I can tell,it ain’t working.
When are these idiots in congress and on our city councils an state legislatures going to realize you can’t make people quit doing things that give them pleasure?
I agree that anti- pot people will find this article offensive. But that is just because they are not seeing marijuana as a drug with medicinal properties far beyond that of ridilin and adderoll, and we give those to children. We dont say boo about giving a child methidone when it is warrented, and that is a highly addictive controlled substance!!! It can be a prescribed substance or it should just be legalized so we can grow it and self medicate since you CANT OVERDOSE! It is the safest all-purpose drug on the planet, it used to grow.. like a weed haha.. EVERYWHERE in this country and others and they made it extinct in the wild. ::dejected sigh::
i have ADD and cannabis probably saved my life, kept me chiled out and calm so i grew up more mellowed out than hypo.look up this, recipe for trouble adhd, its also about a kid given medical marijuana, sucess story
i have ADD and cannabis probably saved my life, kept me chiled out and calm so i grew up more mellowed out than hypo.look up this, recipe for trouble adhd, its also about a kid given medical marijuana, sucess story, my concentration and memory is BETTER after a smoke lol
This was a heart touching moment. I am happy to see a mother take the initiative to save her sons life using a method that really is conventional and less harmful. I am proud of her sticking up for her decision to let the public know of her success with a marijuana treatment. I wish the best for her and her son.
The strains do matter, that’s where research will be beneficial when this war is over.
The child was taking 13 medications, 13!!! That is a crime in itself. No wonder he was wasting away. Now he’s down to two and a half pharmaceuticals.
Loved that the mom had her lawyer with her.
And Stephen, I’m a firm believer in what goes around comes around. The payback just doesn’t come fast enough though when we’re dealing with corruption, manipulation and lies. There’s several people, unfortunately and deservedly, that I’d like to see become ill and have a doctor tell them “marijuana will save your life”. It’s not too wrong to want this to happen to them. It’d be like an ex cig smoker on a mission to save others.
I have known instances of children, classified as ADHD being drugged into submission with horrid side-effects. I have witnessed the changes in these same children after the mildest, second-hand exposure and the differences were remarkable in a most agreeable manner. They actually became quite engaging. How long will we foolishly drug them with horrid chemical cocktails while denying researchers the opportunities to explore the use of an easily obtainable antidote for their difficulty wiwth biologically adapting to their environment? Why do we deny human parents the opportunity to use a natural remedy for an all-too-human problem? And who is this government person anyway?
I am 50 yrs old been smoking for 35 yrs was recently arrested for possession and now serving 1yr probation- at my initial interview was being questioned about my use I told her that I had had 4 surgeries needed more and that my marijuana use kept me from having to eat so many pills. So she said basically you are self medicating to which I agreed, I never went to work stoned went out stoned but relaxed at the end of the day and eased my pain and help me sleep. she asked can you stay clean for a year and i said yes i have been but now eating more pills (narcotics) I dont consider pot a narcotic! Not sleeping and very uncomfortable. I asked what I should do when wisconsin legalizes medical marijuana! She said bring in the script we would be all good but until then piss clean! let’s pray for the right vote!
Waiting in Wisconsin!
I think the plant should simply be legal. There is not enough evidence to make it illegal for anyone at any age. I don’t thing it should be unfairly taxed and I don’t think it should be controlled by the AMA. It is just a plant with some very good uses and almost no provable negative effects.
As a response to number 13, Colin. I started towards the end of high school for recreational use. I use to get terrible migraines and a suffer from minor depression. After I started my migraines disappeared and I was a happy guy. I got suspended from college for possessing 10g and am facing 6 months of probation and am in drug rehab. Along with that, my head has been worse than it has ever been in 2 years and I’m not as happy as I was 3 months ago.
The government needs to take off their blinders and be open-minded to a different form of medicine, not everything comes in pill or syrup form. Marijuana IS NOT as bad as PCP, Heroin, Cocaine and LSD. It has medical uses, and in today’s society people have recovered from cancer, or any other medical issues by using Marijuana.
This false perception of Marijuana needs to end. It will help with a damn good amount of our medical problems in the US, and if it’s controlled properly, can definitely boost our economy.
The ” bad health effects ” were another thing the Drug and Beer Companies make up so , you’ll take their drugs .
Be aware of them .
In response to 13(Colin) and 42(Av). I used to suffer from moderate to severe anxiety, depression, and ADHD.I was also always angry and sweating the small stuff. I started using marijuana regularly at the end of my senior year of high school. Since then my I anxiety issues have vanished; I’ve much higher self esteem. I am no longer experiencing any symptoms of depression, and my ADHD is nonexistent. Finally, I no longer find myself “crying over spilled milk” so to speak. I am most definitely a happier person with a very positive outlook on life.Marijuana has been so beneficial to my life and has yet to show any negative impact.
I would also like to raise a valid point. My two very close friends were suspended from campus this year for possession of 10g. They are now in drug rehab and on probation. They are some of the nicest people I know. A week after their suspension one of our resident advisors was charged with sexual assault. He is still allowed to attend classes and live on campus. I find it unfair that two students who smoke marijuana get suspended, while someone who is an actual threat to society is not removed from school.Where is the right in this?
Prohibition needs to end NOW!!!!!The bullshit has to stop TODAy!!!
If NORML were to try to organize a protest/march/walk they’d have to get permits. But what if pot smokers everywhere took it upon themselves to either have a coming out day or just spontaneously one day (like a July 4?) to gather in Wash DC and pass around the largest joint ever seen. Maybe even get into Ripley’s Believe It Or Not for the largest joint being passed around the largest crowed ever. How cool would that be?
I am an adult who was diagnosed with ADD ADHD as a child. I tried all of the meds they had to stuff in my face because all I ever sought was normal functionality. I was effected severely by these meds while taking them, and some did not work at all. The side effects were major, ranging from severe mood swings, absolute lack of application of effort to school work, oh yeah and complete lack of brain function, in addition I still got in trouble. I stopped taking these meds and managed to get through most of high school occasionally smoking pot in fear of punishment. As a young adult I discovered I was misdiagnosed with ADD ADHD and I actually have a mild form of autism known as aspergers syndrome. It was around this time that I started smoking daily, because it helped. Not only did it help, but it helped alot. It helped me with things I never noticed, things that directly relate to AS. My attitude, my lack of desire to eat(which mostly relates to food texture), my lack of ability to socialize, and my inability apply myself properly to topics that do not interest me. I could go on and on. The positive side effects alone are enough to sell me. But the kicker is there are only very mild side effects I am willing to tolerate FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! They include; the munchies, rise in general attitude, increased enjoyment of life, the giggles. I swear if my parents had medicated me with THC I may have had a chance. Since I have become a chronic smoker no pun intended, I have gone to college for a few certifications, aquired my High School Equivilant, and dipped into a few hundred books in my off time. I have even managed to keep a job for more than a few weeks. I will not say this will help everyone, but it sure as hell helped me. And it has unlimited potential, we need research legalized, we need it legalized, we need NON VIOLENT OFFENDERS FREED WITH OUR WEED OUTLAW IGNORANCE!!! <rant, thanks for reading
When my children (now grown) needed this plant as a medicine I gave it to them, the hell with what others or the government thought or think. I not basing my choice of health care for my children on a Constructive Fraud that has no merit.
We know and understand the good cannabis is for our society, from medical aid to replacement of wood which in tern saves the forest and the reefs on this planet.
We have to over come this Government fraud, this Constructive Fraud set upon us and destorying our liberties. We must not let up about this exposed fraud and we must call it what it is, a Crime against the people.
But until this wayward government gives up it’s unconstitutional position We, the People must act through our Courts. We must protect people like the man facing LIFE in prison. It is simple, we over ride the government in the court rooms acrossed America. Jury Nullification! That’s right, be a Jurier, be the Peer that reviews the case before the court, and then Nullify the Law, hang the jury, refuse to convict. As a jurier, educate the rest of the Jury in this Constructive Fraud and refuse to take part in it. Nullify the Law by way of Jury Lawlessness! No judge, no court can stop a jury in a criminal trial from reaching it own conclusion as to what is a Crime!
So please stand and be counted, be a part of our court system, be a jurier and use your god given power to over ride this wayward government and it’s foolish cannabis law.
Jury Nullification
Know It
Practice It
Change the Cannabis Laws
It is time to act, and act we must, we must stop this wayward government from sending anyone to prison over this plant. Time to put our foot down on the government waywardness and nullify those foolish laws they create that do not represent the will of the American people.
Time to push, so PUSH REAL HARD against this unjust fruad once and for all.
I have ADD. My brain functions too fast in one area the doctor said which clutters everything else. This leaves me already “chilled out” (rather than hyper) all the time. My nickname in Highschool was “Cheech” even though I never used until college.
Once In college I used recreationally and I started to noticed I don’t need to take my adderal before class if I just take one or two puffs out of a pipe.
I recently quit smoking because I am about to graduate and will be getting drug tested before I start my job. I have noticed it to be harder to study and pay attention in class. I have also been having to take my asthma medicine 2X daily again, where as before I quit I was using it twice a month. I’m in a souther state so my people will be pretty much last on the list for Medical Marijuana. I hope the Federal Government keeps the momentum going forward with this issue
This guy calls him a psychiatrist? I guess in his opinion we should all be on thorazine and ritaln and to hell with our liver and we will come down with tardive dyskinesia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Foolish Dr.
With our current political leader Mr.”Change, Obama” and his more of the same drug Czar Mclellan, I’m sorry to have made the mistake of voting for these idiots.
It’s nice to know that they are here to help………,themselves to some more of that good old taxpayer drug war money and after all, who cares about the peasants or their stupid kids.
Obama: We won’t have to lie to them again for another three years, pass me that joint Mclellan, this adhd is kicking my ass.
Have you ever heard of ” Marijuana Anonymous ” ? D.A.T. came up with this idea to make people think that Marijuana is addictive . Another classic example of what D.A.T. is doing to deceive & lie to you the people .It’s all lies and bullcrap poop balogna .
AD/HD maybe one of the best behavioral treatment remedy. Having worked in an OP psychiatric setting I have seen thousands of youth who were considered treatment failures to a multitude of medications with no FDA approval for minors. Many were of the atypical antipsychotic medication classes. Psychiatry is always an experiment. If therapeutic standards can be met, ingesting, vaporizing, drinking a medication that is senior to most civilizations! Current laws adding a stimulant effect on teen users. Teens get jacked up on risk! marijuana makes criminal of a substantial population of HS and college students! Remember Racheal Hoffman! (added by Mobile using Mippin)
This one hits home for me. I was Diagnosed with ADHD, Depression, ODD, Mild OCD, and Bipolar Disorder at the age of 5. for years they had me on almost any drug available to try to treat it. Adderal(Clinical Speed), Zoloft, Serequil, Abilify, Trileptol, Ritalin, just to name a few, at age twelve I would take 3 tabs of adderal, 1 abilify, 2 serequil, 1 zoloft, and 2 trileptol in the morning and again in the afternoon. I used to go days without sleeping. Often contemplated suicide on the hourly basis(even attempting it a few times.) My brain would be in such a haze that I would often just sit in the corner and do nothing but stare at the blackboard until the bus came. I would have Violent outburst to the slightest stimuli. Even going so far as to split one kid’s head open for calling me a teachers pet. Those drugs took every semblance of control I had over my actions. When I was fourteen I tried Marijuana for the first time to see what it was like. Two weeks later I was able quit all of my medications with no adverse affects minus the withdrawls. I would smoke a bowl before school and a joint at recess (I was so lucky not to be caught!) and would be just like any other kid, happy, carefree, and I was able to focus on my work for the first time in my life. I graduated that year with a 3.9 gpa and have since been able to leave therepy. So to all the politicians who say that marijuana destroys lives let me be an example… It saved mine! In contrast About six months ago me and my buddies went out drinking and I got into a fight(with one of my teachers) which turned into a brawl and have been kicked out of school and am now on probation which means that they are going to test me once a month so I can’t smoke anymore and another condition is to put me back into therepy and back on all of those wonderful (and insanely expensive) drugs all over again. And now I’m worried about what will happen once the put me back on them.
i was ddiagonosed with asbergurs syndrome my whole life had beeen a complete disaster more meds then you can imagined all had no positie effedxt what so evr often contemplated killing myself becuase of my constant axiety eventualy i tried pot 7th grade fixed everything but of course there was legality issue so my parents seeing the improvement decided to take eme to get medicaql marijuana so we saw one doctor and got one reccomendation costed 150 dollers for evaulation then i find out because i am only fiteen i need a secod one complete utter BS my parents not being able to afford a second one put me back on my regular meds making me have constant moodwings getting inot fights likeveryday this is complete utter bs and now im back to being completeley miserable and hateing my life.
i must agree with medical use becuase i am 25 years old and been through a lot. Such as my father rapping me, beating the crap out of me, drugging me up on all types of drugs, there is a lot more that happen to me from my parents and while being in foster care from 6 to 19. I have several anger and depression issues. Medications do not work on me. Iv been on ritalen, depocoat, clondine, and several medications none helped. When i smoke marijuana i hav no agression, no depression, and i can handle life issues a lot better. It helps with my anxiety. Marijuana is very helpful and should be legal for medical use in every state. There r so many good things marijuana can do to help people live a normal life (added by Mobile using Mippin)
Honestly for those of you who don’t have a child or family member that is on regular medication that doesn’t seem to help them, don’t criticize people who will try anything to help their children. I have two autistic brothers and EVERY SINGLE DAY my 16 year old brother spirals out of control and now that he has even surpassed my dads size, sometimes he can’t be controlled. We have over 30 holes in the walls of our house, we can’t go on vacations, and he attacks my 6 year old little sister on a regular basis. My parents have been up every alley and nothing has had lasting effects. They are now considering medical marijuana. If it doesn’t work, the last resort is that my dad moves out and raises my brother by himself so he baby hurt anyone. The comments about how bad some parents are for considering this are unnecessary! You have NO IDEA what its like.
I am feeling a lot of sadness for the young people sharing these stories. They find the relief of mmj after years of suffering but are not able to have access to it. i urge you to do whatever it takes to get the medicine that works for you(mmj) and give up the harmful stuff when you do. dont give up!!! Keep telling others what you need and what works best for you. We need to change the laws!!
