Willie Nelson After His Most Recent Pot Arrest: Let’s Start A Tea Pot Party!

American music legend and NORML Advisory Board member Willie Nelson was busted, again, for possessing cannabis on Friday by a US Border Patrol outside of Sierra Blanca, Texas…about 30 miles from the nation’s border with Mexico. NORML warned cannabis consumers a few years ago about these roaming road blocks.

Willie’s tour bus had to pass through one of these ‘border’ checkpoints, and after law enforcement claimed to have smelled cannabis, Willie was busted for possessing six ounces of cannabis.

In his first public interview post arrest, Willie tells CelebStoner: “There’s the Tea Party. How about the Teapot Party? Our motto: We lean a little to the left.”

For years NORML’s founder Keith Stroup has admonished cannabis consumers—the tens of millions of cannabis consumers in America—to stop voting for politicians who support arresting cannabis consumers.

If enough cannabis consumers get politically active and organize under Willie Nelson’s ‘Tea Pot Party’, voters in future may have a choice to support bona fide office seekers who support ending Cannabis Prohibition as Willie has just started a Facebook page announcing such.**

**And thereby ending the historical harassment by law enforcement of great musicians from coast to coast.

  1. This is just amazing! Wasting their time on arresting Willie Nelson! What is the purpose of this? He’s going to continue to smoke weed so what’s the point? When will this country understand that people smoke weed and there is NOTHING wrong with it! It’s NOT a “gateway drug”! It’s CAN’T, and shouldn’t be, compared to cocaine, heroin, or any other drug for that matter! The WORST thing that happens when you smoke weed is you want to eat! Other than that you laugh, love and basically hang out! So, GET OVER IT ALREADY! Leave Willie Nelson Alone!

  2. National Pot Party – YES! But either have a complete platform or co-exist within all the other parties as an advocating caucus! We’d actually get somewhere instead of being another “protest” candidate or 3rd party going nowhere! By doing so, we could influence candidate selections & party issues.
But Willie aren’t you a Medical MJ card holder?? You should stand your ground and defend your right to possess your medicine regardless of another state’s prohibition. Being a traveling performer by trade you should be able to carry your medicine with you at all tiimes. At 6 ozs. you are 2 ozes below your legal entitlement in Calif.
This would be a good stand/ legal position to take Willie.
    And everybody back up Willie!!!

  3. Evening to all, just last night this idea was floated on MichaelMoore.com by a blogger support for the idea is beginning and today I read Willie Nelsons idea. I will copy and paste the comment as it was written. ”

    Michael Moore,

What I am proposing may seem naïve, but I believe that within the next two years Progressives must organize under one umbrella. We did it here in Kansas City in the 80’s under the name of “The Coalition against Non-intervention in Central America”. Gay rights organizations, unions, farmers, peace groups, those who supported the legalization of marijuana, teachers, students and many others. Today’s umbrella group would be called the coalition to remove Republicans from office and push forward our progressive agenda. It will take a lot of work, but as Republicans run the Government into the ground organization should be easier.
I am asking for your support, I have been sending notices to the progressive groups in Kansas City. You reach across America. We must do this to ensure that there is not a boot on the head of unorganized groups attacking right wing extremists all on their own. Under our Umbrella group the man who pinned the female Move On worker who was knocked to the ground and then stomped on would have been defended by a fierce group who work for peace but are not pacifists. We must not sit idly by and take this abuse any longer. A boot to the head gets a blow to the noggin.
Will you please help organize this group calling upon all progressive groups to join under one flag, a flag for jobs, peace, education, a public option, unions, NORML, NARAL, and constantly denouncing the two percent who control the 80% of the wealth, denouncing tea party elected Reps and Senators on their home court without fear? We are still the majority and together if we get out more than 31 percent of registered voters as in Kansas City then the house will belong to progressives an the Senators who come up for re-election will have to finally take us seriously.

    Thank you,

    Steven Addison
    Kansas City. Missouri”
Its time…. we must unite and join together with a plan of action, policies to reform the nation and make it whole.

  4. The DIMS and RIPS are a false paradigm…with my guess of 60 million pot smokers in last 18-24 months…we have some low-hanging fruit someone will pick. NORML says that the Govt. says 29 million smokers now…I’ll come down to 50 million, yet we can’t galvanize in a police state.

  5. Yup! Time to round up Willie, Seth Rogen, Cheech & Chong, Woody, and the rest of the supporters to get this long overdue, serious movement going on! Hell, I have the time! I’m an unemployed actor (Bloodwood Cannibals-2010) in between gigs and would love to help stir up the pot!
I was just telling friends a few weeks ago there needs to be a movement like this. Get that hemp fuel burning bus, a convoy of supporters (just like the dead head followers back in the day) and this will be a huge impact. First stop DC then the bible belt and beyond!
Have Willie step up as the driving force and key speaker for the movement just like….(whats that chicks name again from Alaska?! LOL!)

  7. “Our motto: We lean a little to the left.”

Really Mr. Nelson? What has the left done for us? For every obscure left leaning politician who ACTUALLY has done something proactive for marijuana reform, I can name you an obscure and atypical politician on the right who has done the same.

Let’s stop with this left vs. right nonsense. They are both the same, and they play off of this partisanship to keep themselves BOTH in power. I fail to see a lick of a difference between the two parties, they are just different wings of the same rapturous war mongering bird of prey.

  8. I endorse the concept. There are too many organizations with different agendas, mission statements, and etc. This concept could bring all like minded organizations to the party. If not, let them toot their own little horn. I’m bettin Willie’s horn will be louder anyhow. 😉
Besides, the Tea Party came out as an idea and has gained some steam. Have a little faith and support the idea and if karma has it, the TeaPot Party will blossom as it should. 🙂

  9. Loving to attorneys defense concept above. Of course, Willie being honest may have copped to it sealing his fate. Besides, he can afford the fines and legal fight to possibly dispute the matter. This is a federal case correct? Being the USBP and all, would TX jurisdiction apply or federal?

  10. legalization is a great cause and i am 100% for it but it is not a political party. it something to be mindful of not blindly stampeding behind. most other things being equal i might vote for a pro-pot candidate, but we should be careful who we stand behind because when we vote in a representative we get the whole package. i know it’s frustrating but we can only protect our integrity by making smart decisions.

  12. @ Mr.Richard Mallory Barnes:
Disagreed! 1stly – Willie claimed possession already. This allowed the other guests on the bus, etc. to elude arrest. Willie has balls!
2nd – from the low bail, they are low-balling it anyway. Bail was set at $2500 so $250 was probably all he needed to post. Not demeaning the ridiculousness of the arrest, weed is our right the government has no business being involved in harmless personal activity.
3rd – I think Willie should stick to his “guns” in the same line he started. It’s his medicine, he’s legal in California & 14 other states. There was no sale or distribution in a prohibition state like Texas. He should insist on his right ot possess his medicine from one state to another. Obviously, he’ll most likely loss at 1st tier trial, maybe not. But he shoudl insist on persisting & appeal. This will have an enormous impact for Med.MJ patients across the country -i.e. the right to possess your doctor recommended medicine! Period! b/t/w: The AMA just recently voted to remove MJ from the Schedule 1 drugs, among other door-openers.
4th – If they prosecute, he should immediately bump it into Federal District Court as an issue of state-state conflict over personal medicine and use that as his affirmative defense.

  13. Willie is a Texan and was arrested in Texas. Texas is a red meat state run mostly by Conservative Republicans.

What better place to establish a “national movement” than Texas. Sierra Blanca, Abbott or Austin?

Corpus Christi on the Gulfo de Mexico not too bad either.

  14. ive got to agree with brian. its like one guy with a puppet on each hand. the right hand is conservative, the left liberal but its the same guy making both talk.

  15. Brain: The difference is all polls show the majority of democrats in favor of legalization. I don’t want to make it a right/left issue either but it’s clearly obvious that the left overall supports marijuana legalization and there is much larger opening there then on the right which overall does not. Even though the leaders of the democratic party (who are more centrist then their members)tend to oppose legalization they also don’t make it a top priority to impose the drug war. Not that their hands aren’t dirty but its not surprising to see the party that supports proprety and religion to be more opposed then the one that supports society and tolerance. I expect a pro-legalization candidate will be able to make it out of the dem primary in 2016 but in the meantime we should all do what we can with the crop of right/left candidates we have to work on the state level (Like Peter Schulmin/Dan Malloy/George Miller/Barney Frank or Ron Paul/Gary Jhonson.

  16. Man I love Willie but he’s missing the point of the Tea Party…their intention is to increase personal liberty by reducing the size of government….

A bigger government isn’t going to support legalization of any banned substance as it would threaten their size and thus funding.

Ultimately, you can call me a libertarian or a Republican who smokes pot…I just think the best person to make decisions about how you live your life is you…not some politicians in DC, some of whom have been there since the Eisenhower administration…

  17. Yea lefties are mob rule communists and righties are Theocratic Socialists

George Washington feared party politics would bastardize choice. Sadly any decent 3rd party just consumes or is absorbed by one of the others. Tea Party is republican, Green Party is democratic its all liberal vs conservative bullshit.

  18. Brian, the motto was a joke. Historically Democrats have been more open to working with us. In Iowa, the Democratic Party Platform supports taxing marijuana like tobacco and alcohol.

My reason for posting is this: Did Willie Nelson start that facebook group himself, or did someone join facebook under the name “Willie Nelson’s Teapot Party?”

  19. hello dear friends..
it’s so sad to hear that a nice musician got trouble for herb.. still mr. Nelson is kind of a martyr.. a man that walked through the barriers knowing that he might get busted.. just to make us all concious..
It’s a very good idea to organise in a party..
Still my advise is that this should not mix with other movements that have nothing to do with our movement such as gay rights.. our movement has nothing similar and relatif with gay marriage etc other that both are not accepted.. otherwise its a totally different issue and totally other kind of people. Another very important issue, and I ask mr. Nelson to concider this is that we should avoid like hell the motto <> etc.. This sound political and communist turn that many people might not like .. and we want all the people. We will not be in the well known double poll, left-right..communists – capitalists.
We can be out of that separation caring more about our issues and call people of all polital directions.
Do it… it’a good idea… Do it and care for us too that are still using grass with rat poison or go into the booze because we cannot find a tiny little joint and it’s so expensive when we find it…
Keep the good fight brothers and sisters.. you won , you know, in cali the 2nd of nov. All the world has seen that we are 45 % of the entire population… nobody can ignore the will of so many.. the Arizona vote that was so close to call was another Godly gift because this suspense ending made everybody realise that we are the … half !!! and the actif, strong and creatif half.. you are strong… very strong… you put Cooley out… you did it because you are powerfull.. so go near your singing bird.. your nice brother, and shake the earth.. we watch and we are near you as one.. greedings from sunny (today) Ellas (greece).

  20. What the hell was he thinking to begen with he was busted at the sireat chekpoint it has all was been there As far as geting pot smoker’s to vote when was the last time you saw some one in a smoke shop regstring pepply to vote. they dont do that and a lot of pot smoker i know that can vote dont A tea pot party woud be great but you are not going to fine any one with the edu and learder ship to start one in texas.

  21. Its not just Republicans that are against pot, democraps also resist. Use your heads, some people would like to turn this into a party issue, how about voting out the people against pot use, whatever party they support.

  22. The more of these busts there are, the more absurd marijuana prohibition appears to the public. This waste of law enforcement resources is the best publicity there is for legalization. Thanks to the US Border Patrol in Texas for helping stimulate more action to change these incredibly stupid laws.

  23. Let’s start a class action lawsuit. The charge is treason against the republic. I’ve been searching hemp pre 1937. I don’t understand why some smart lawyer can’t see this is the case of the century. All the proof of it’s benefits are at their fingertips. 73 years of propaganda and they have not paraded out one body. Or is it that the law is too corrupted to defend the truth.

  24. Brian, it sounds like you’re equating “left and right” with “Democrat and Republican.” That would be a mistake. Also, the Left includes more than just politicians, and I would absolutely say that left-leaning voters have done more for us that right-leaning ones.

  25. If Willie was found with only six ounces…he must have been out of weed.

Willie..you have done so much for so many and I hope you come through this with no negative consequences.

  26. First, it is a civil rights issue like gay rights, women’s rights, etc. The essence of civil rights is that we be judged by our public behavior and contributions, and not by our private lives. People are born with with certain characteristics like gender, but people are also free to choose other characteristics like religion or political affiliation. Civil rights makes no distinction between the two, and the fourteenth amendment states that privileges given to one group of citizens shall be given to all. Some people are allowed to drink alcohol, I should be allowed to smoke pot.
Regarding who we vote for in elections, I agree that both parties have been negligent in supporting marijuana rights. That is why I advocate that we start writing in “Marijuana” on all political races that we don’t otherwise have a vested interest in, or where the candidate has not affirmed his pro-marijuana views.

  27. I will agree that SOCIALLY the left is the lesser of two evils, absolutely undeniably.

But why does marijuana have to be a left vs. right issue needlessly. This should be what brings us together and teaches us all about liberty. The thing is, 10% of republicans want to legalize marijuana, no where near a majority of the “party” but a LARGE portion of Americans. But now consider young republicans, my experience is that ~80% want marijuana reform, and I wish I had a scientific poll to confirm that. They are the future of the party and they tend to be non-neocon.

This country needs less polarizing categorization of people and more unification and cooperation. The so-called neocon right depends on this polarization. Why must the left stoop to this level?

The thing is that libertarian or non-neocon republicans agree on the all of the exact same problems the “left” has with this country, we just have different ideas. There is no reason why we can’t work together. You should be empowering and including these types of republicans rather than further dividing us. We need your help and cooperation to kick out the neocons so we can work together. Type example: Ron Paul is very good friends with Ralph Nader because they have a lot of common ground even though they disagree on solutions.

This need not be a left vs. right issue. All it does is further divide for absolutely no reason because this is something we can all get behind. Sure Dems on average approve of marijuana reform more than Repubs, but you need us 10% who are enlightened in a sea of neocon morons.

  28. How do you join? It would also be great to get some concerts going around the country like Farm Aid type events. I feel bad for Mr. Nelson but this could be a blessing for pro MJ people by getting the celeb ball rolling.

  29. Fish,I agree with you on this one.For those in charge to just up and make a weed illegal is sort of odd. Especially a weed with so much potential. There is SERIOUS MEDICINE IN THE PLANT’S OIL,(this alone could be enough)But for fuel, 75 percent more fiber for paper and cloth than trees and cotton..needs little to no chemicals on it because it doesn’t have a lot of enemies.no herbicides because it shades out the other weeds.Certainly this plant was made illegal because it competed with chemical pharmaceuticals, and industrial chemicals.
Did you see one of Arizona’s list of rules that indicated 12 pharmacies to every one dispensary? Surely this speaks a mouth full about who fears competition. They knew cannabis oil was a cure for many if not any and all diseases, and because its a plant,no one could tap into the ownership of it.A lot of people have died as a result of its illegality,A lot of people have been arrested and put in jail too. Many non violent lives ruined.

  30. don’t forget about The Marijuana Tea Party! we were here first, of course we’re not willie nelson, he just stole our idea. all the partying in the world wont replace voting tho.

  31. After pot was made illegal tobacco was planted and it was covered with so many chemicals it gave people cancer and made many people so sick and still is.and of course they made the cure for cancer illegal,so now the people had to depend on chemical pharmaceuticals, the MIC and radiation, surgery etc all very expensive.People had to give up every penny they had to stay alive.Tell me there is no injustice in this?

  32. Don’t forget about The Marijuana Tea Party! We were here first, of course we’re not willie nelson, he just stole our idea. No amount of partying will replace voting tho.

  33. HOW IS THERE MORE POSTS ON THIS PAGE THAN WILLIE FACEBOOK PAGE…?

*** THE LACK OF MOTIVATION IN THE MOVEMENT IS SICKINING !!

  34. I agree that the whole Republican vs. Democrat, “liberal” vs. “conservative” thing is a facade that doesn’t do any good for this country and its citizens. The problem is the “two party system”. A quick and easy solution would be to make it a federal crime to ask what your party affiliation is for purposes of voter registration.

We are never going to end the Drug War against marijuana if we do not encounter two areas of resistance. First, there is the “medical marijuana” movement who’s dealers and distributors have it just the way they want. They have black market prices and they have legal distribution. And then there are the prohibitionists who cannot or refuse to understand how criminalizing marijuana enflames distribution. So struggles for legalization have enemies on the “left” and the “right”.

I think Willie Nelson does a diservice to this ungoing struggle by once again posing decriminalization as being owned by the “left”. For people with lots of money, politics is a kind of game and you can pick and choose your sides with leisure. Most people who are busted for recreationally using marijuana do not have that luxury. End consumers under the thumb of law enforcment are the real victims of the Drug War and nobody will speak for them. “Conservatives” get busted for marijuana possession too.

  35. I really would like to ask the Dem that wrote Micheal Moore if he really thinks that Obama is any better than the Republicans?
Congress is simple. One term, Dems will pass bills they want through, with earmarks giving a little more liberalness to the laws they want, then if and when the people get pissed, they vote Rep. The Reps will vote through more liberalness on those same laws, because the Dems will earmark onto “bipartisian” laws, thus getting voted through Congress.
Congressmen, both Senators and House, have admitted to not even reading bills before voting. WTF is that?

Its very simple. We are fucked. There is only gonna be two things that happen in my lifetime. Complete New World Order, or the exact opposite, Use second amendment rights given to us by the people that once grew weed and hemp, and take back our freedom.

I will fight and die for my beliefs, thats LIBERTY.
If u fight and die for money, thats terrorism.

  36. Obama leans left and he laughs off legalization. Left and right both show authoritarian tendencies. Legalize Adulthood! Anyone signing on for that will not be for authoritarianism from either side.

  37. I signed up yesterday, before hearing of Willie’s latest bust. Its about time this issue was put to a popular vote. Alcohol and nicotine are far more unhealthy for you than pot.

    I’m right with you, Willie!!!

  38. It’s not necessarily a Dems vs. GOP issue! Read Justice Clarence Thomas’s dissenting opinion in Gonzales v. Raich, 545 U.S. 1.

  39. Could it be that the BP agents stopped Willie’s tour bus because they knew that, while searching it, they could get a contact high from second-hand smoke and do it legally? did they giggle all the way to the jail?

  40. Comment 42:

Sandy…What is this “Cure for Cancer” that the government has Made Illegal. Please submit proof / website / any fact to legitimize your claim.

    Shelly

  41. This citizen says’ stop wasting my taxed money.

I do not want to see my pension wasted on paying all those cops so that they arrested some old man for having some worthless weed, and who wants to pay for for this old mans prison sentence?

    This Citizen says No.

  42. Maybe our right leaning friends could start a Smokehouse Republican caucus within the GOP. Probably be as frustrated as bein a Log Cabin Republican but it’s a start. The drug war is non partisan because potsmokers are non partisan.

  43. This is an outrage! Marijuana prohibition has caused far more harm than marijuana alone ever could… How many victims has this pointless prohibition plagued? ask yourselves what harm this God-given herb has caused? You can’t prohibit nature.

  44. If Willie will be our candidate for PotUS, I’ll change my voter registration today to Tea-Pot Party. Since
the only thing that politicians care about is their own re-election, voters need to walk-out en masse, of their political parties. Not that our do-nothing, cowardly elected officials would actually *do* anything, but it might draw their attention to this matter. To bring about change, real people such as Willie need to run for office. Look at America’s Representatives in both Houses and at all levels… Tell me, anyone you know who couldn’t do a better job.
If Willie wants to increase his “American Treasure Factor”, and we all know he is an American Treasure, he will run for PotUS. And I would say to Willie: at 77 yrs. young… Uncle Sam needs *you* Willie! Please help America by running for POTUS and End the Bogus War on Drugs which will never end unless good people such as yourself and your “Highwaymen/Outlaw friends run for office. If John Hall could win a Republicanland stronghold for Congress to become our first Rock and Roll Congressman (yes, he recently lost his seat because he abandoned his base), so can others. Unfortunately, today, it takes a celebrity to win if a candidate is not a political appointee-hack, who we know, historically, are not going to change things. Most of us didn’t need Wikileaks to tell us that the real gangsters are ‘in charge’ and now would be a perfect time to announce the candidate who will symbolize the American public outcry for Truth, Justice and the American Way… and that American Way should not be about arresting peaceful, non-violent, 77 yr. olds as Willie and his sister before him, who have been so maligned as to be arrested for simply possessing their harmless drug-of-choice.
(And with Willie’s self-described, “high tolerance”, that six ounces is probably just a week’s supply of herb.)
They have worked their whole lives as honest, law-abiding, model citizens who have contributed more good our world than any of our do-nothing, bureaucratic elected officials who only work at maintaining the status quo, parades and ribbon-cutting ceremonies…
If Willie Nelson wants to smoke pot, it should be nobody’s business but his own.
The first time I had a chance to vote for PotUS, I voted for Jimmy Carter who campaigned on a de-criminalize pot platform. That was almost forty years ago and I’m ‘still’ waiting for any elected official to even say they will do the same. In fact, I’m still waiting to see the government do anything that will benefit my life in any way.(Oh sure, I heard Spitzer say it should be legal on Bill Maher, but that was ‘after’ he left office.) Today, Obomber said he would put a freeze on federal employees pay. What courage ;-/. If he legalized marijuana, he could pay off the deficit. But noooo, it’s easier to freeze other people’s pay scales than to risk losing some votes in order to do the right thing in a BIG way… But then, no one is ever going to accuse Obomber of having had political courage in office.
So let’s hope something good at least comes out of what happened to Willie. Unlike Obomber, Willie is all about good things.
Willie Nelson for President of the United States!
(And no, I don’t smoke pot, but that’s my choice. Willie should have the same right to *his* choice.) Willie for PotUS! Willie for PotUS 2012!!!
Now *that* would be something that would bring our country back from the depths of despair and economic depression. Besides, “Willie for Prez” has a nice ring to it.
    😉
    ~Leslie Farney

  45. Willie is in the unique position to become an american hero in the history books. And he only has to say 2 words to ALL his friends HEMP-AID

  46. The marijuana smokers are victims of intolerance from people who drinks. The half drunk members of Canadian senate wants to automatically jail for 6 months people caught growing 6 plants. You call that progress. I call it canadian madness.Have we elected the politicians so that they work against people. I am one who belive so

  47. for the guy saying someone else might have left the weed on the bus or whatever, all the other articles about this have much more and say he said the weed was his to keep the rest of his crew out of trouble. try reading real articles first though before high times…i suuport norml and high times stuff but they seem retarded when they write articles. usually tons of typos and very little information. not saying they don’t educate but try reading the same story from another source first….

  48. Not another political party, Willie. Think a huge music tour like “Farm Aid,” but all around the country. We need a MEGA-TOUR of big name acts to do something like “Weed Aid” to promote legal cannabis and encourage people to get registered and vote for pot friendly issues.

This mega tour thing would work. If “Weed Aid” ended up anything like “Live Aid” we could see real change.

  49. I love the idea of the Teapot Party. After watching what the TSA said that they are now allowed to grope you. The way Eric Holder and Obama handled the Prop 19 election, the outbursts, the false California Halloween commercial; all of this combined with the growers is what made the vote swing to to No. It was way up to yes before.
The only thing I see that will change things is a revolution. Big Brother will not change things about Hemp. It has been legalized all the up to just our past generation when “the Builderberg group” is trying to take over the money, world, power and taking away all your freedoms. How many time has the US govt lied? Oh excuse me, we didn’t mean to inject you with Syphillis! copy and paste: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/10/01/government-apologizes-s-std-testing-guatemalans/

Yeah, while youre at it, fire those bombs in Yeman and yeah, we will pay for them, but tell them yall did it, not us. (recent wiki leaks) These people in this group doesn’t want you to have freedoms. It’s the opposite and they are lying to everyone. Please make yourself aware of the Fema Concentration camps they have built already if we get out of line for something. It is getting worse and not better. If you think that countries hate us because we have freedoms, think again. They hate us because we formed this Group when they made cannabis illegal. Hemp would be our way out of the whole, they won’t acknoledge it. Because they are all there for the benefit of themselves and no one else. George Stephanopolis and Rick Perry, all the presidents are, they are the talking puppets.

Reasearch it all, please become aware that its not going to get better. It’s going to get worse unless we all stand up to Willie Nelson’s teapot party.

  50. its only goin to work if people stick together, like the vote to legalize in the midterm for cali . good goin

  51. **And thereby ending the historical harassment by law enforcement of great musicians from coast to coast.

or of anyone for that matter!!

  52. ijust got busted wednesday night at a “sobriety check” seems i smelled like pot they said and they made me take a blood test. for the way i smelled.

  53. I think the Rockefeller, Dupont’s and Melons continue their chemical, petrol, pharmaceutical death camp ideas to this day.Any thing that stands in their way they just stomp to death kill it or make it illegal.Cannabis is a real threat to them. They probably purchased our government a long time ago.Theres no telling what kind of sick agendas they have set in place and Since cannabis makes healthy people it probably doesn’t fit well into their ideas of making money off the sick people they created with their chemicals. There ideas about eugenics and depopulation are pretty sick but then so are they.there are some pretty sick people in this world and God help us all some of them are in charge.

  54. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

  55. Maybe we need to be reminding people about the Constitution. The next time you encounter an officer, just recite the Bill of Rights that pertains to your issue. That way you will shut your mouth about what you’re doing “wrong” and remind them about your right!

  56. After thinking about all that on and on I thought that on a party like that the leader should be someone else.. not mr. Nelson himself.. I am a singer myself and gitarist and I know how a musician can feel..
a musician can be a leader in the spiritual part of our lives.. influrence us all and do a great work for the people.. but in order to be that way he would not be what the movement really needs as an active and experienced leadership .
For that job of an organisator and leader I think that by far the most competant persons can be Norml’s directors.
Mr. Alain st Pierre has the nice and smily looks to be liked by others.. he also doenst have the looks with very red eyes.. spacy.. that skares the other side..
the organisation and work that Norml did helped a lot to be here today, we all know that.
The same is for mr. Armentano.. He is so much experienced in the real needs of what we must do for the best result.
Without separations all of us who love and trust God’s nature, all of us of all parties, will follow.

  57. Steve Turtle If they made you take a blood teast then we have truly lost our rights that my Dad foute for in ww2.

  58. thank you n.o.r.m.l you guys are great ! willie has done more to help the small farmmer and has given so much of his time to helping people.and the shame we should have for a country that a man can simple get rob for dried flowers God made !!!!stop the lies end marijuana probition …. teapot party sounds good willie !!!! sign me up

  59. The comment above, #47 by Paul is the truth.

Willie we love your music but freedom isn’t an issue for the populace to be divisive about. It is “us” vs “them”, The “them” being anybody opposing full legalization and our natural rights of self ownership.
Please don’t get caught up in picking one political party as the messiah, it will not work.

The concepts of liberty transcend political alliances.

  60. Willie Nelson’s movement should have a number of advantages over “the regular guy” starting his own movement(Though, Norml and its team has done a hell of a job since the beginning). I’ve been Tweeting the Facebook like Page since it started, everybody should. But, even if he gets up to the likes of let’s say… Lil’ Wayne “16,000,000+ likes”, would it even make a difference? How much further does it go than that?

Good News: Montell Williams and Illinois:SB 1381

“Illinois lawmakers should act without delay to make marijuana legally available for medical use,” Williams said. “Every day that they delay is another one of needless suffering for patients like me all across the state. Fifteen other states have already passed medical marijuana laws, and Illinois’s lawmakers now have an opportunity to ensure that those suffering in their state will be treated with the same compassionate care.”

“Sixty-eight percent of Illinois voters favor allowing seriously and terminally ill patients to use and grow marijuana for medical purposes”

“Nationally, the American Nurses Association, American Public Health Association, American Academy of HIV Medicine, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and many other esteemed health organizations have endorsed the medical efficacy of marijuana.”- This was a good read too” : )

“the bill is supported by the Illinois Nurses Association, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Protestants for the Common Good, the Jewish Political Alliance of Illinois, and Illinois public health advocate and physician to the governor, Dr. Quentin Young.”

    “Montel should join Willie Nelson”

Maybe Illinois will be the 16th state?

  61. I am not for politicians that want me in jail for a harmless plant….this is why ron paul or gary johnson will have my vote…..Give me liberty or give me death….

  62. No way? Willie! You been smokin again.

How many people are not surprised. Just let the man pass through and it would have been much easier but hey, we can also start a huge anti-prohibition movement.

  63. I’m in favor of a “HempAid” benefit to be held on 4-20-11 in DC…Let Willie hold a free concert there…see what happens…

    Puff Puff…

  64. O.K. Here’s everybodies chance to over-power the government. We made it the #1 issue many times. Let’s bury government in their own bullshit. Don’t even start to say “We the People” can’t do it. Just look at the Tea Party. Let’s do it again with th Teapot Party.

Some people say – Pot will never be federally legal until every state in the union approves it medically. Perhaps – but – a thousand mile journey starts with a single step. Take the step. Defend Willy – rise up against injustice.

  65. What would you rather have. Cap and Trade where trillions are gathered and squandered or Biomass fuel with millions of jobs. Hemp mobiles.

  66. This incident could be like that olympic swimmer Michael Phelps last year. Acting as a catalyst for more media conversation.

    tea pot party?

I’m all for it, or something similar. We really need to display a show of force somewhere other than the internet.

    stick it to the man!

  67. I am totally for starting the Teapot party!!!
With the inaccurate statistics from the ONDCP and it’s agencies,it is probably a fact that more eople do marijuana than they report and tha last thing they want is for us to ban together as a voting bloc.

Kerli is at it again with his “drugged driving” spiel:

Gov’t: Drugs were in 1 in 5 drivers killed in 2009

Need Radical Russ to get out from under the bong tent
and get too working on this,,,,thanks Russ.

  68. OH, so they finally got him, that machine gun packing, head choping, child molesting, outlaw Wille Nelson and his band down south in Tex-ass. You know folks i have had a slowly growing admiration for Willie ever since his first farm aid concert in 1985. It would be hard for me to think of a more patriotic American. So what now? Are the drug courts and media going to try to smear the reputation of this talented and intelligent gentleman by saying that Mr Nelson is a drug addict who needs to go to rehab and pee in a cup? This second arrest of Willie just goes to show the need more then ever for full legalization. Why prop 19 failed i do not understand, however at 46 percent yes, i do not think us marijuana lovers should be regarded as just a small group of dissatisfied extremists, and our nation’s leaders in Washingtion D. C. need to respect that. Us pot-heads do not need prove or say anything to anyone the arrest of Willie Nelson says it all.

  69. The free Stashitwear that I sent Willie a couple of years ago would probably have saved him on this one. Does anybody remember the 60’s? Back in the sixties there were people called hippies. Hippies smoked alot of pot and caused alot of problems to the government. At one point it was later disclosed that because of the trouble making pot smoking hippies that the Government almost declared Marshal Law because the government had actually thought the pot smoking hippies were about to take them down. The hippies did put an end to the War. Once the government realized that pot smoking people could actually pose a threat to them they declared all out war on Pot and anybody who uses it and it remains that way to this day. If you were the government would you allow people to smoke a drug that makes them think and thus makes them a threat to the government or would you try to destroy the drug and it’s users at all cost? Alcoholics, cocaine addicts, meth heads, ect, did not riot on the college campuses or burn their draft cards or protest in the streets for months until they got their way. It was the pot smoking Hippie, a dieing breed. Are the pot smokers of today willing to take on the government at all cost like in the sixties? NO!

  70. I think the best way to get our message of marijuana reform out would be a cable TV station. We could feature step by step grow shows so everyone has the know how to grow their own medicine. It could also be a platform for political debates, comedy acts, musical guests like Willie. You
have to fight propaganda with persuasive rhetoric of your own. If the mainstream were to see marijuana users as the kinder, more open minded individuals most of us are, resistance to legalization would certainly be curtailed and voter turnout rates for people age 18-24 would rise.

  71. We already have Two Political Parties that support Legalization of Marijuana (Green & Libertarian). So, you all can either fall-in ranks, or be just be another common Political opponent. Republicans and Democrats are completely controlled by Lobbyist. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce funnels monies to all of our Legislators for the Official Government work that they do, as they want.
Our Legislators put that money, taken from Lobbyist, in their own Coffers rather than into the Government Treasury. Therefore, Republicans and Democrats are “On The Take”, and under control by Lobbyist.

  72. Tea Pot Party? Show me the website.

One thing is for sure, with this latest announcement of intent to make per se duid nationwide, we need to move quickly on this.

and #54, don’t forget the textile industry.

  73. #72:there is a lot of support in medical literature about how pharmaceuticals and symptom-focused treatment actually keeps people just sick enough to need a sampling of the services and medications being marketed. To actually cure people would mean some corporations would lose some money.

  74. Texas must be short on cash again.Willie has my support for the ‘POT’ TEA PARTY.My motto ‘FU^* IT,Smoke it if you got it they cant arrest us all.
And I mean everyone get out Pick a day ,Go to your state ,county or local government offices and smoke
Walking down the street what better time to smoke.
Is this a free country or a police state.THERE IS NOT ENOUGH JAILS , COURTS OR PRISONS TO HOLD ALL OF US.THE SYSTEM WOULD AND WILL BUCKLE UNDER THE ENORMUS WEIGHT OF ALL OF US.!!!!!!!!!!WE dont hide our drinking,or cigarettes, our deadly automobiles, and air polluting energy industry,Which causes more death than anything on this planet-EVEN WAR

  75. In Arkansas,we (Cannabis-Hemp Study Advocates) have written and released proposed legislation that addresses the significant issues of the cannabis-hemp imbroglio. Composed as Arkansas legislation, it nonetheless can serve as a model for any state that left–as ours did–a little wriggle-room in its controlled substances laws. Check out our website: http://www.chsa.viviti.com. The site is new and pretty sparse, but the legislation and a summary are available there.

  76. The political party bit isn’t the issue…I’m watching Republican Gary Johnson’s career with much interest and may for the first time in my life back a rep in 2012. He’s done much for New Mexico and now is in Florida testing the waters:

“The issue of marijuana legalization is obviously an attention-getter,” Johnson said. “And you can’t shy away from it. I have to defend it. I have to defend the position.”
Johnson’s reasons: Marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and the costs of locking up pot smokers exacts too much of a toll on civil liberties and on taxpayers. He said marijuana would be considered less of a gateway drug if it were sold alongside “more dangerous drugs” like booze.
“I don’t drink. I don’t smoke pot. But I’ve drank and I’ve smoked pot,” said Johnson, an accomplished triathlete who once scaled Mount Everest. “The big difference between the two is that marijuana is a lot safer than alcohol.”

I always find it funny that all we want is peace, it’s the government that wants the war. I do feel that Willie Nelson should certainly push forward, but we should all focus on which candidates back decrim and/or legalization regardless of right or left and party affiliation and get rid of the Leonharts that are fighting us…

  77. SEEMS TO ME,THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY SHOULD BE OUT TRYING TO STOP SOME REAL CRIMES,INSTEAD OF OUT TO GET THE OLD AND WEAK FOR “WOW”GETTIN HIGH….HMMMMMM,I THINK LAW ENFORCEMENT SHOULD HAVE TO DO A TOUR IN IRAQ,THEY WOULD LEARN TO PAY ATTENTION TO MORE IMPORTANT CRIMES HERE IN THE REAL US OF A….

  78. IN OUR CURRENT GOVERNMENT SYSTEM IT CAN BE SAID THAT THEREARE MANY FLAWS…TO SAY THA LEAST,BUT THERE IS A GREATER FLAW THAT IS HOLDING BACK AMERICANS FROM OBTAINING CHANGES IN THE LAWS.WE AS A SMOKER NATION HAVE BECOME POLITICALLY WEAK,AFRAID,AND DISCOURAGED.NOT UNTIL THE SMOKERS OF AMERICA BAND TOGETHER AND FORM POLITICAL PARTIES SUCH AS WILLIES PROPOSED TEA POT PARTY WILL WE BEGIN TO SEE CHANGE.REAL CHANGE.THE KIND OF CHANGE DRIVIN BY A POWERFUL PEOPLE NOT AFRAID TO STAND AND OPPOSE THEIR GOVERNMENT.AN INTELLIGEN AND ENLIGHTEND PEOPLE WITH A WILL TO COMMIT TO STRONG SOCIAL AND GOVERNMENTAL REVOLUTION….ITS TIME WE STAND TOGETHER.THERE ARE TOO MANY OF US FOR OUR VOCIES NOT TO BE HEARD AS LONG WE ALL SING LOUD AND SING THA SAME SONG.IT STARTS BY BECOMING INVOLVED IN YOUR LOCAL AND STATE POLICIES.FROM THERE WE CAN GET A TOE HOLD AND PUSH THE FEDERAL SYSTEM INTO ANEW ERA OF TRUE PERSONAL FREEDOM.

  79. There is an ever growing protest happening in DC on 4-20-11, called Overgrow The Government! You can find us on Facebook! Our website is coming soon… We hope to see you all there, and Willie too! Peace!

[Editor’s note: Congress is not in session the week of April 20…Hard to talk to Congress if they’re not in Washington, DC.

Might want to plan for a week when Congress is not in recess, which means trying to coordinate better with the 5-10 drug policy reform groups (like NORML, ACLU, DPA, FAMM, SSDP, LEAP, DRCNet, etc…) who’re based in the nation’s capital.]

  80. In times of “social web” I think all the people in favor of legalization, would make an international day of protest. In Brazil each state makes a “Marijuana March. ” or ” Marcha da Maconha “. But as I said before, with the use of social networks, we can organize a single day.

  81. Turbo dog at 107. i like gary too. i can’t belivev i wuld vote rep. but he for legalize. as far as i know, the rally point is d.c. on fourtwenty with overgrow.i dont think it matters if congress is in session or not.

  82. 1 Everybody out there send a dollar bill in an envelope to your congressman / senator that supports progressive marijuana legislation and an empty envelope to the ones that don’t.

2 Register republican and vote Ron Paul in the primary

3 Study the wikipedia articles on JURY NULLIFICATION

  83. I feel that it is time to give up on supporting the Democrat Party! The Bush Tax Cuts have let that Debt Monster out of its cage! Obama will likely be a One Term President. Obama could possibly regain some of his Mo-jo, if his Secretary of State did in fact give him one of her balls…
I have heard that over 26,000,000 Democrats did not get out and vote in this last Mid-term election! Young voters were down by 55%. Black voters were down by 43%. Latino voters were down by 40%.
My take on Obama’s viability is that there is little likelihood that he could ever regain the political support that he had when first elected President. I believe that Liberal Democrats likely feel that if Obama is reelected, so what? Einstein once said “Trying the same thing, over and over, and expecting a different result is Insanity”. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!
Obama has a Naïve notion of Political Bipartisanship. The Obama Administration is made up of Right-Wing Democrats such as Axelrod. Republicans are able to Push Democrats around in Lock Step simply because the Democrat Party has a majority of Conservative Blue Dogs that only support the Democrat Leadership on about 85% of the Legislation.
Almost all of the Legislators, Republicans & Democrats are “On the Take”! That is, they take money from Lobbyist and Special interest Groups for the work that they do, and they put that money into their own Coffers rather than into the Government Treasury. This money comes from The Republican’s Chamber of Commerce.
President Obama referred to this Country, “The United States of America”, as a Democracy, and I thought, don’t we wish; let me see.
    1. When campaigning for Election Obama said “No Lobbyist would serve in his Administration”. Obama said “He supported Universal Single Payer Health Care” when he was Campaigning for President. Obama knows how to talk the talk, and he does have a lot of intellect, unfortunately Obama does not walk the Walk! Remember when Obama said Insurance Company Health Care was Unsustainable? Well, $17M from Insurance Company Lobbyist, and viola! “It now makes more sense to build on what works rather than to build an entirely new system”. It is a shame that U.S. Legislators put Lobby Monies in their own Coffers for the official Government work that they do, rather than into the Government Treasury. We the People cannot put Referendums on the Federal election Ballots.
    2. It is any wonder that less than ½ of the eligible Citizens of “The United States” are even registered in any Political Party, and less than ½ of the Registered Voters ever get out and Vote in any election? Obama pledged that no Lobbyist would serve in his Administration.
    3. “I Pledge Allegiance To The Flag Of The United States Of America, And To The Republic For Which It Stands”!
It is time to give up on the “Party of Blue-Dogs”! I strongly feel that the Republican Party is poised to kick the Democrats to infinity. How so? Liberals are so poorly represented that many feel; “What is the use of registering, and getting out, and Voting?” I think that we have very few Barney Franks, John Conyers, Howard Dean, and a Democrat Party of Blue-Dogs that only support the Leadership on about 85% of the time!
I feel that only the Green Party could stand up to the Republican Party.
I encourage you, and your organization to work with the Green Party to Register Voters!
