Thanks to the GlobalMana Foundation and the design group Northshorecartoon for publishing a very creative, funny and spot-on political commentary in the form of a short cartoon focused on the costly absurdity of the U.S. government banning the domestic production of industrial hemp.
Most all other countries (Canada, France, Great Britain, China, Switzerland, etc…) do not allow the lawful use of cannabis for non-medical purposes, yet, they allow for the production of one of the most utilitarian and environmentally-friendly row crops that humans have been cultivating and prospering from for thousands of years.
Regardless of whatever happens in state and federal governments with ‘marijuana’ laws in future regarding medical access, decriminalization or legalization, the US government must stop trying to enforce a complete and total blanket prohibition on all forms and uses of the amazing cannabis plant—notably, like other major countries have done regarding industrial hemp.

So True

This cartoon can and will save the world. Cheech and Chong have been preaching this message for forty years now and we are still preaching and teaching. It will happen sooner or later. Toke up and relax because eternity is a long time and thats all we have…tc
That was great and spot on. I think when Hemp said he could be used as fuel at 50 cents a gallon is a major reason why it will never be legal. There is just way too much money being made keeping it illegal. Big oil companies would not stand for that.
I have shown “hemp for victory” to my high school environmental science classes for 10 years now. I also have a copy of Hemp Horizons on my book shelf. I have students who bring me copies of “the emperor wears no cloths” several times. This school aged generation, with all their internet knowledge, know the truths and lies the govt has pertraded for years. I only hope they vote.
Relegalizing the manufacture of hemp is the neglected child of the entire marijuana law reform community despite it being the easiest sell to the public and politicians. I understand the urgency of getting patients their medicine or preventing non-violent “criminals” from going to prison, but since the Number 1 concern on most American’s minds these days is JOBS JOBS JOBS, I don’t understand why there hasn’t been a major push by these organizations to lift the ban on industrial hemp. The lopsided support only bolsters detractors who claim marijuana law reform is just about wanting to get people high. If the movement is ever to win over mainstream support across the board, hemp should be the first priority, not last.
Keep on fighting the good fight Tommy Chong!
I guess the first question that comes to my mind is; who profits the most from keeping Hemp illegal? Afterall….money seems to be the bottom line for the vast majority of Human Beings and Corporations who have the legal designation of individuals. Psychotic individuals………but individuals just the same.
Cannabis sativa (hemp) containing low amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) cannot be produced legally if it contains high amounts of CBD (cannabidiol). CBD is also Schedule I. Why?
Apparently I was misinformed and CBD is not scheduled in the US. Sorry for that.
[Paul Armentano responds: In fact, all naturally occurring cannabinoids are Schedule I under the CSA. Synthetic THC is classified as a Schedule III substance under the CSA.]
Great toon, We need to put the HEMP industry back in the history books where it belongs. The Hemp industry was an enormus part of OUR history a nation. The Hemp industry was stricken from history books after the 1937 debacle that made it illegal. The TRUTH needs to be told, but since when is OUR Government interested in the truth.
AWESOME—–VIDEO—–ROCKS!!! The TRUTH is coming. Keep up the great work NORML!!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!
Im really happy to promote sustainable solutions for globalmana.org we are opening a new store in waikiki and we will have petitions for people to sign and we will make more videos to help the world. Lets get organized people we almost legalized marijuana but some people just didnt understand how important it is. Its not about getting hi its about getting by. Hemp can save the world, get hi too in hi. haha
[Editor’s note: “Its not about getting hi its about getting by.” Well done!]
Demand a simple definition of marijuana.
One sentence to heal them all.
One sentence to find them.
One sentence to bring them all,
and in the Statute unbind them.
16. “The term ‘marijuana’ means all parts
of the smoke produced by the combustion
of the plant Cannabis sativa L.”
It was pure propaganda that turned Americans against cannabis. What if Americans were presented with a program of truths meant to produce a positive image of cannabis? If this were done on a national level, say, a series of commercials that showcase how hemp could benefit literally everybody, wouldn’t Congress then be more apt to pass H R 1866? Let all orgs dedicated to industrial hemp join together and work towards remaking hemp’s image. Only then can we expect any change.
BROWNSPLIFF — Plant of Action
Hate to disagree with Chong, but “toke up and relax” might not be the best thing you could say right now. Instead of waiting for eternity to get the job done I would side with UKCIA– stands for Cannabis Internet Activists– and start right now (or after ONE OR TWO tokes)to promote the BROWNSPLIFF idea (no longer big in UK maybe, but now there’s a Brown in town in Sacramento, right?).
Roll up POT-ting soil in a big BROWN paper napkin or old sycamore leaf, with a POT-seed inside (or several if you have many). Ride your freightbike at night with a big sackful of these and a “dibble stick” (sharp at one end, makes a hole to plant stuff in). When you see a frowsy neglected hedge, bush, shrub etc., poke a hole among the roots, stand the BROWNSPLIFF upright (& invisible) down there, then ride on at least a hundred meters/yards before planting the next one etc., etc.
Get the planting done before end of winter; during summer those plants will grow up unobserved inside their hosthedge, getting shade and moderate drippages of water, and go to seed; NEXT YEAR, millions of industrial hemp plants everywhere! –too late for a$$holes to crack down, the poor old World will have a big laugh and go on with bizness, which includes reforesting the planet because one of the virtues of hemp is that it is one of the best precursor crops for TREES.
Title for that could be What the government doesn’t want you to know.
cheech and chong probably did more harm than good with their perpetuation of all “stoner sterotypes” in their old routines. Hopefully their portrayal of pot and pot users is more realistic now….
[Editor’s note: Possibly. Or, they helped to mainstream cannabis use as being ‘no big deal’, certainly less consequential than alcohol abuse. Cheech-n-Chong should be lauded for their success, support for reform and being at the cultural vanguard—not lamented as causing “harm”.]
One thing I tend to realize about our leaders is that they don’t want what is best for the world or the public, but what is best for their bank accounts…. it is sad to say that the hemp plant truly would make life much more sustainable and efficient, but that is the problem: that which ISN’T sustainable isn’t profitable to them.

Sacrament as a Food
Hemp Nutrition – Natures Super Food. In the Genesist Faith’s penchant [propensity] to free our Holy Sacrament from the prohibition that falsely imprisons it, we should not neglect to claim the superior benefits from hemp food – the most nutritionally complete food source in the world. Hemp is legal – it’s legal in any form. Hemp [God’s gift to his Creation as Holy Sacrament] has been a food [that which grows naturally from the ground] since the beginning of time – The Sixth Day. Hemp, if not the first, was one of the first, plants to be cultivated by mankind, and present-day areas of wild growth have resulted from plants escaping from prehistoric cultivation. More recently, since the early 1990’s, shelled hemp seeds have been used as a foodstuffs, including, baked goods, snacks, breakfast cereals, beverages, frozen desserts, tofu, even cheese! Hemp is highly nutritious. From a nutritional standpoint the hemp seed is highly desirable.
everyone needs to sign into youtube and like this vid! if you dont have a youtube account, MAKE ONE!
A good video about hemp!
The government should also ban pine trees and cotton plants, since those evil plants are put to similar uses as hemp.
How people can support an insane and anti-environmental policy such as marijuana prohibition, I will never understand. It is like they want to destroy the Earth and everyone on it, so they try to kill first one plant, then another, and another, either through laws, pollution, or wars. The Drug War, Viet Nam, Iraq… they are are all related, symptoms of the government’s inability to cope with reality. Connect the dots. Our government is irrational and lashes out at people with firearms.
I also liked “The Flower” ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMM_T_PJ0Rs ).
now if you can get tv to play that on regular basis so people people can see it would help.. oh wait almost forgot right wing is in charge a that and only there lies are heard there.its so sad
Nice hemp video, I’ll pass it around. New Hampshire legislators have introduced a bill to “legalize” some regulated hemp growing.
Not perfect, since ANY government oversight of growing a plant is intrusive…the bill number
is HB101 -FN-A. The bill will likely be approved by state legislators, maybe the senate too, as usual the stumbling block will be Governor Lynch, who likes to veto anything to do with cannabis. One should note Lynch oversees a state that controls alcohol sales and raked in $511.4 million in sales last year. Irony? Uh huh.
why would we legalize hemp, that would make too much sense. We don’t do things that make sense in this country…save your seeds, hide your weed, prohibition is here to stay
“The Reformation”
CDXX Revival
Genesis I:29,30,31
Once upon a time – from the beginning of time – The Sixth Day – hemp has been a food, a medicine, and a Sacrament. Hemp has played a significant commercial role as well. Hemp has been a part of religion, since religion itself. Hemp is #1 of 10,000 medical plants and treats 250+ medical conditions. Hemp is the most nutritionally complete food source know to man. Its commercial uses are vast and many. These are reasons why hemp is so valuable. To say – “It has no value” – is to say – “Look at me – I’m showing you my ignorance.” So! show me how intelegent [informed] you are, and tell me – “What’s bad about it.” I agree! minor children should be prohibited. I am very anti-drug, alcohol, and tobacco. I am very anti-abuse and addiction. What I am not is anti-Sacrament. I do not approve of, nor do I support, the prohibition of my Sacrament, my medicine, my nutrition, or the pursuit of my happiness. These things I will protect with my life. I will protect [with my life] the U.S. Constitution.
Hemp is food. Hemp is legal. Food is God’s Holy Sacrament. Declare hemp food your Sacrament [whatever your religion or ism]. Demand the “whole plant material” as your Sacrament. Be as serious as a heart attack in doing so.
If I’ve offended anyone, I’m sorry. If on the other hand, anyone has taken offense – that’s life.

Thank you for contacting me about the decriminalization of marijuana.
I believe that while legalization might reduce the high costs of prosecuting and enforcing some narcotics crimes and help alleviate pain for some patients, the larger cost to society must be considered. There are serious public health costs associated with drug misuse, as well as larger economic and societal costs. For example, marijuana is often cited as a gateway drug that leads to the use of more dangerous narcotics. For these reasons, I do not support decriminalizing marijuana.

The Gateway
Nic, that’s just silly. Hard drugs are manufactured by humans for profit. Around 1850. Ganja has been used for thousands of years. How did the early tokers gateway to what wasn’t even invented? All your rhetoric does is keep the real gateway alive. That is the black market where you could gateway to stolen auto parts. Trying to perpetuate this war for profit is the same as getting people sick just to sell them pills. Actually that is basically what the fascist are doing.

If all fossil fuels and their derivatives, as well as trees for paper and construction, were banned in order to save the planet, reverse the greenhouse effect and stop deforestation; then there is only one known annually renewable natural resource that is capable of providing the overall majority of the world’s paper and textiles; meet all of the world’s transportation, industrial and home energy needs, while simultaneously reducing pollution, rebuilding the soil and cleaning the atmosphere all at the same time…

If you tell the “Big Lie” enough – it “becomes believable.” Every lie, ever told, about cannabis [is] believable. Not true – but – believable. Research has proven that cannabis [is] non-addictive, non-toxic, and a “Gateway” to the refrigerator. That’s the truth. Try spreading the truth. The truth will set you free.
You don’t have to tell me about the benefits of Marijuana . I went from a BIG FATSO at 260 pounds down to 212 pounds after quitting alcoholic beverages and replacing booze with the more sensible healthier alternative to alcohol with no calories and here’s
proof .

It’s as simple as that .
I just heard on NPR the other day about the resurgence of rayon fabrics. So, cotton is getting more expensive and fabric companies are looking to alternative sources for fiber. Somehow, no one ever brought up hemp in the discussion. I happen to own a rayon jacket, that I quite like, however the same jacket could be made by hemp fiber and it would be just as good. Also, you wouldn’t have to harvest the cellulose to make rayon from other plant sources.
The government created a Constructive Fraud around cannabis and placed that harmful fraud around the necks of American to deprive them of their Constitutional Rights. I saw each elected offical to congress swear to follow and protect the Constitution, not the laws of this land, but the Constitution. If that constitution is dead then why did everyone swear to uphold and protect it. Now I expect them to adhere to the Constitution and remove the unjust laws that have been illegally applied on the People of this nation. I expect them to protect the Constitution and that means stopping the Constructive Fraud against the People and their Will.

It is worth noting here that Henry Ford developed an automobile in 1936-1937 made predominantly (80+%) from hemp, and would have likely run on fuel derived from hemp as well.
http://www.hempcar.org/ford.shtml
http://www.hempmuseum.org/ROOMS/ARM%20PLASTICS.htm
The announcement of this vehicle predated the start of Prohibition 2.0 and war on drugs regarding hemp. This is not, imho, any accident.
The crony corporations that today essentially run the USA have a vested interest in preventing the re-legalization of cannabis, including especially hemp which represents a far greater threat to their economic well-being than medical marijuana does to Big Pharma, which is also heavily dependent upon petroleum by-products.
Henry Ford proved that hemp could be used for glues, epoxies, plastics, cloth, and fuel — replacing comparable items from the steel, petroleum & petrochemicals, and cotton industries. Then there are the more traditional hemp products such as paper, cardboard, and construction products industries. All of these represent a less expensive range of products with a far lower impact upon the environment than their analogs.
Between the environment and economic stimulus the re-legalization of cannabis including hemp could provide as large an economic boost including jobs in the USA as did the space race or the computer.
Please, someone tell me how consuming cannabis made this 22-year old psycho go on a “sickofantic” rage where he kills and injures multiple people and then smiles and acts like he accomplished something. What does cannabis have to do with what he did? The prohibs have really jumped all over this when a so called “friend” that he hadn’t spoken to in years called him a “pot smoking loner”. Are we that simple to think that this is all that is needed to justify a persons actions and that no deep seeding feelings/regressions or beliefs led to this? Please tell me the prohibs have something more to hang their hat on other than cannabis made him do this therefore it’s illegality is without question. I am sickened by this person, whose name I will not recite, and the whole incident.
My heart goes out to those who lost and to those grieving in agony.
Cannabis is an easy target that’s why so many people point their dirty fingers at it’s use. Did cannabis really do it to you or was it something else that you don’t want to admit to. Or have you locked it away deep within the mind? Causing it’s purpose to disappear from the frontal but still attacking emotions from within. Perhaps stating facts instead of false renditions would aid as to the true reasoning as to why cannabis is illegal. Why is it that the truth is what you say it is and when I have actual facts it’s not enough to sway the mind of a prohib? It’s always something more.
Prayers to those for the loss of loved ones and the gain of nothing.

If we don’t have – a Republic with laws “derrived from the Constitution” – we will have “Ming the Merciless” -yelling “I’m only going to say this one time – so! – sit down, shut up, and pay attention. “Igorance of the law has never been a valid defense” So! you better start taking notes.”
The last time someone told me to sit down – I sat down. The last time someone told me to pay attention – I payed strict attention. I listened with insatiable ears – and – I took notes without being asked to do it. But – the last time someone told me to “shut up” – was the last time someone told me to “shut up.” And that’s what the Constitution allows me to do. Where else can you stand up, kill the audiance, and be the bigger dog.

That’s a great video! Really tells the story. Hemp is so misrepresented. There is so much money to be made in this industry. Why in the world is it not legal? Why can’t we have the freedom to choose? I choose not to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, I do choose to smoke cannabis.

My dearest Mr Kerlikowske,
Since you never return my calls emails or letters I must assume you’re busy or your rudeness just comes natural. So if I was near Washington DC or if you ever dare show your two faces on the Central Coast I’ll present these inquiries in person. Ok first. If cannabis has no value then why did the government patent it? Or why do they roll and ship 300 joints every month to the 4 remaining IND patients? Why does wild unkept Hemp make up 98% of the “marijuana” eradications? Are tax dollars ever spent on Calvina Fay Straight Inc. Partnerships? When you die will you decompose or just lay around the landfills for thousands of years like the other plastic garbage? I do believe it would be worth taking up religion just to know you’re burning in Hell. Have a day.

Bush. Religious drug treatment in Texas
CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. – Over the door of one church-based drug treatment center in Houston, a sign printed in foot-high letters announces: “Drug Addiction Is NOT a Disease. It’s a Sin.” At another, clients pass by a poster of an addict in a hospital bed, ripping IV tubes out of his arms and throwing his pills in the garbage. An angel hovers nearby, offering her protection from this plague of prescriptions.
And at a Christian young adult home in Corpus Christi, police recently took the unusual step of arresting a supervisor after teenagers complained that they were beaten and roped to a bed, all in the name of Christian discipline. More arrests are anticipated, authorities say.
These are some of the results–expected and unexpected–of Gov. George W. Bush’s “bold new experiment in welfare reform.” With his conviction that religious groups can transform lives in ways government can’t, Bush sponsored laws in 1997 that allow churches to provide social services their own way, outside the intrusive glare of the state.
The new laws exempted faith-based drug treatment programs from all state health and safety regulations followed by their secular counterparts, a list contained in a rule book as thick as a Russian novel that covers every detail from fire detectors to frayed carpets. Counselors in religious treatment programs now may skip the criminal background checks and hundreds of hours of training required of their state-licensed peers.
Cover-Ups, Prevarications, Subversions & Sabotage
The New American Century by Arundhati Roy
(January 22, 2004 (February 9, 2004 issue)
In the great cities of Europe and America, where a few years ago these things would only have been whispered, now people are openly talking about the good side of imperialism and the need for a strong empire to police an unruly world. The new missionaries want order at the cost of justice. Discipline at the cost of dignity. And ascendancy at any price. Occasionally some of us are invited to “debate” the issue on “neutral” platforms provided by the corporate media. Debating imperialism is a bit like debating the pros and cons of rape. What can we say? That we really miss it?
Signatories to its statement of principles included future Bush administration officials Elliott Abrams, Dick Cheney, Paula Dobriansky, I. Lewis Libby, Peter Rodman, Donald Rumsfeld, Zalmay Khalilzad, and Paul Wolfowitz. Other signatories included Gary Bauer, William Bennett, Jeb Bush, Midge Decter, Frank Gaffney, Norman Podhoretz, Steve Forbes, Eliot Cohen, Fred Ikle, and Dan Quayle.
On the Larry King Show in late 1989, then drug czar William Bennett, a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2000, said he had no moral problems with beheading drug dealers -only legal ones.
” U.S. leaders commit war crimes as a matter of institutional necessity, as their imperial role calls for keeping subordinate peoples in their proper place and assuring a “favorable climate of investment” everywhere. They do this by using their economic power, but also … by supporting Diem, Mobutu, Pinochet, Suharto, Savimbi, Marcos, Fujimori, Salinas, and scores of similar leaders. War crimes also come easily because U.S. Ieaders consider themselves to be the vehicles of a higher morality and truth and can operate in violation of law without cost. It is also immensely helpful that their mainstream media agree that their country is above the law and will support and rationalize each and every venture and the commission of war crimes. ”
~ Edward Herman, political economist and author
If Bill Bennett is slouching toward Gomorrah, he has a layover in Las Vegas. Bennett, the former drug czar and author of “The Book of Virtues,” has lost up to $8 million gambling in the past decade, according to published reports. He says he does not have a gambling problem.
Can you say “denial”? Bennett’s wife says he gambles only three or four times a year and that he is not addicted. Can you say “enabler”?
There is one more word to say about the former drug czar who advised drug users to just say no: hypocrite.
