(NBC Montana) HELENA, Mont. — Senators endorsed a bill repealing medical marijuana shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday by a vote of 29-21. It needs one more, mostly procedural, vote to clear the chamber.
The Senate began arguing the repeal after a last minute push got HB 161 to the Senate floor by a one-vote margin.
Democrats say Republicans are going against what the public wants, but Republicans say what’s going on in Montana now isn’t what 62 percent of the voters approved several years ago.
It looks like Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer may be all that stands between 28,000 patients returning to criminal status and protecting them from arrest. Call the governor and prevent the first ever marijuana reform state loss in forty years of drug war.

This is a sad day for medical marijuana… I feel for the patients in Montana, It’s a shame that a few people can do away with a law that took 62% of the voters to pass. What is America coming to?
Medical marijuana has helped better the lives of many that use it. I have back pain and have been prescribed muscle relaxers and strong pain medication. Personally I have issues with pharmesuticals and prefer a more natural approach to my pain. In free country I should be able to choose a natural remedy over an RX. The medical marijuana industry has put people to work at a time when there isn’t a lot of work. Please think carefully before allowing this bill to pass.

Despite the good intentions of the State Legislature in its attempts to clarify the often confusing laws regarding the medicinal use of cannabis, you can still be prosecuted for it even if licensed for medical use by the State. The United States federal government does not currently recognize any legitimate medical use of marijuana.
Eleven States, including Washington have made attempts to circumvent the Federal Controlled Substances Act to no avail. On June 6, 2005 the Supreme Court ruled in Gonzales v. Raich that Congress may ban the use of cannabis even where states approve its use for medicinal purposes. Unfortunately, if we were to pass HB 1550, it would make it even more confusing, not less. Unless the Food and Drug Administration reverses its position or there is an act of Congress marijuana will still be considered a controlled substance despite the efforts of the State Legislature to otherwise allow its use.
Many local law enforcement agencies are required to enforce the federal law in exchange for federal dollars. So while the State of Washington may not be committing resources to implement the Federal Controlled Substances Act, local law enforcement agencies may still be required to impose it.
I know this is not the answer you wanted to hear, I wish we could find an alternative way to help those who might benefit from the use of cannabis. Please know I understand your position, however this problem can only be addressed on a federal level. Thank you again for contacting me, I hope I have addressed your concerns.

Well, if these politicians believe that there are serious issues with these VOTER SUPPORTED initiatives can’t they simply offer an ammendment to be VOTED ON by the PEOPLE who voted on the issue to begin with?

Dover, Del. — A bill legalizing medical marijuana in Delaware received overwhelming support in the state Senate on Thursday. The bill, based on the Marijuana Policy Project’s model legislation, cleared the Senate 18-3 and now goes to House.

I know that I will be crucified for this comment, but this is what happens when med mar programs are managed terribly. People who don’t need marijuana get it, the system becomes laughable, and people blame crime on it. I have seen how poorly Montana ran her program (medical marijuana caravans? Jesus.) and though I feel bad for Montanans who actually need medical pot, caregivers and supporters in this state brought this on themselves.
Let me add that I am completely in favor of full medical and recreational legalization of marijuana in all of it’s forms.
The main problem with repeal is that it will cause the black market to surge back up. Black market dealers evaporated over the past few years, leaving only a slim few who where still brave enough, or in too deep to get out. As things sit, my high school age daughter will not be able to buy a bag of weed after school from Joe Blow on the corner because Joe Blow is gone. Weed is purchased in a transparent way, on main street, where we know its not being sold to 13 year old kids. Repeal the law, Joe Blow is back in action, selling pot to our kids in the back alley. Not to mention that most black market product comes from the same Mexican drug lords who are lopping off heads on the border these days. Repeal brings increased profits for criminals and foreign drug cartels, and weed back into the hands of kids. Any politician that votes for repeal is a traitor and not looking out for your children or our country.

When it’s time to vote during election time we need to make a few demands and exceptions because if they want my vote they must be totally in favor of marijuana . I came down with pancreatitis. within 3 months, I lost 30lbs. doctors said i would eventually die from pancreatic cancer. I refused to beleive. With eating large amounts of cannabis extract, I have reversed this disease. My GI specialist said there isn’t any damage left on the pancreas at all. I was hooked to taking 80 milligrams of percacet a day, which almost killed me detoxing off of those. I can’t believe that so many people believe we actually live in a “free” country…Yup free where we hold 25% of the worlds prison population, where we have the greatest # of our own citizens % wise in prison than any other so called Westernized country. I beg to differ, because we all know that even ONE single patient without a card is a criminal in the eyes of the law. So actually, until the laws change each and every one of those 28,000 people need a green card or they go to jail for seeking relief….How dare they feel like crap when they wake up each and every day……
It really is hard to accept that there are people out there like “kenley” to crusade against a safe and natural alternative. So concerned about how we trat our pain. At some point you would think that they would have been told in life to “worry about yourself and wish everyone else well”. As far as cannabis caravans go or whatever you might call them…How would the average Montana Citizen go about getting a recommendation for MMJ? I am sure you cannot get you’re own family MDto make the recommendation, because he or she has not had freedom to make those recommendations without upsetting the uninformed.

Sandy, did you read my comment from April 7? I am talking about this exact type of event, where people come to voice their opinion and suddenly start acting strange or change their oppinion suddenly. This is exactly the type of behavior and activity that is cause for people to get scanned for implants.
