Did you see John Oliver last night?

Did you catch it? On Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver skewered our nation’s failed policy of marijuana prohibition addressing topics ranging from a potential crackdown from Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the newly formed Cannabis Caucus, and the desperate need for federal marijuana law reform.

“There is now a Cannabis Caucus in DC… and if even an 83 year old Republican from Alaska has come around on this issue, then it is probably time for our laws to catch up” Oliver said

Since it’s launch in February, members of the Cannabis Caucus have lead the way in the fight for sensible marijuana policy by introducing a number of bills that would end federal prohibition and support states efforts to set up regulated markets for medical and responsible adult-use.

Now, more than ever, it is time for Congress to take action. Jeff Sessions recently said “I’m definitely not a fan of expanded use of marijuana. States, they can pass the laws they choose. I would just say it does remain a violation of federal law to distribute marijuana throughout any place in the United States, whether a state legalizes it or not.”

Well, Congress can change that.

Email your member of Congress to join the Cannabis Caucus.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to send your Representative a message. The only way that Congress will listen is if we speak up loudly and clearly.

Together, we WILL legalize marijuana.

Thanks for all you do,

The NORML Team

  1. What have we got ready to drop on Sessions’ head should he be foolish enough to try some sensational shutdown raids? He needs to be awakened as to his true situation.

  2. Great cover on Marijuana with a comical twist. States are making progress,Fed can’t get on board. Considering Alcohol is more dangerous to consume, Marijuana should not even be scheduled any differently. Cigarettes are known to kill tens of thousands of people yearly, now that should qualify it for a Schedule 1 drug; no medical qualities and kills thousands yearly.

  3. Great coverage by John Oliver and Last Week Tonight.
Their coverage with “Law & Order: civil asset forfeiture unit” is still by far my favorite:

    “Get down!”
“What?! You got nothin ON me!”
    “Not you… the couch…”
    (Handcuffs the couch… priceless..)

  4. If an 83 year old Republican from Alaska can come around we can only help with “time” the rest of the republicans can do the same. John Oliver is a national treasure.

    1. Time is the great equalizer. Problem is, at my age, time ain’t on my side.

Republicans gotta pull their collectives heads out. Just read an article in the Cannabist, referencing the Wash. Post, that said in 2016 60% of both Democrats and Indies supported legalization–contrasted to only 40% of Repubs.

Too many GOPers are stuck in the 1950s–not only in their attitudes on race, sex, etc, but also pot legalization. It ever a political party needed badly to evolve–I know, a taboo word in some GOP circles–it is the friggin’ GOP!! (So, next time some poster wants to lecture us about the Dems and legalization, please remember these numbers.)

  5. I kid you not when I say that I would be much happier if John Oliver was our president instead of Trump!

  6. Its great seeing that the marijuana issue is getting some positive main stream media cover with great law/use facts. This video could be one of the things that push more states (even federal) to be more progressive with their marijuana laws. But i would still keep my eye out for a drug crime attorney just in case things don’t workout and you face legal issues like some of the people in John Olivers video. For example : https://www.mosesandrooth.com/drug-crimes/

  7. I think marijuana should be totally legal and keep the federal government out of it unless they want to start growing it and selling it and getting United States out of debt
