Medical Marijuana Research Act of 2017

mj_researchRepresentatives Andy Harris, M.D. (R-MD-01), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR-03), H. Morgan Griffith (R-VA-09), and Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-19) introduced H.R. 3391: The Medical Marijuana Research Act of 2017.

This Act amends the federal law to facilitate clinical investigations involving the use of cannabis and cannabis-derived products.

As you may know, there are many benefits to medical cannabis. Those suffering from PTSD, Tourette’s Syndrome, Parkinson’s Disease, and many other debilitating conditions have found relief because of medical marijuana.

But, despite the fact that over 200 million Americans now have legal access to some form of medical marijuana, present regulations make clinical investigations involving cannabis needlessly onerous. Passage of this measure would expedite federal reviews of clinical protocols, provide greater access to scientists who wish to study the drug, and mandate an FDA review of the relevant science.

  1. So my district rep Morgan Griffith finally signs something concerning medical cannabis. That’s only due to the 2018 election cycle and him needing to look like he’s doing something. Otherwise, he’d still be sitting in D.C. swilling bourbon with his cohorts, all the while ignoring his constituents in SW VA. He refuses to hold a town hall and spends his time naming bridges after state policemen. What a gig, and very well paying at that.

While he sups in Washington, his constituency recently made the front page above the fold of the NY Times due to a circus tent healthcare initiative (NGO) that saw patients come from all over the area by the thousands due to our entrenched GOP legislators disallowing medicaid expansion. And Griffith was the one in the back of the pack in the rose garden when not-my-president signed the house’s so-called healthcare bill that would doom untold numbers in Griffith’s district to a painful death sans healthcare. He was the one giving trump the big thumbs up. Dumbass. Needless to say, if you live in Virginia, you have to travel a hell of a long way to find any of the legal medical herb mentioned in this post, all the while driving over these named bridges with a law enforcement community just itching to catch you, throw you in the slammer, and by mandate take your license away for 6 months just to poke you in the eye further. What a state-of-the-art collection of fools on display in D.C.

  2. When I saw the name Andy Harris (R) at the top of the list, I immediately became suspicious. He is a rabid prohibitionist… and a doctor, which is a double betrayal! Keep an eye on that sucker… What’s his angle?

    Signed and sent, however!

    1. Still nervous. This Rep. Andy Harris’s baby! I’m not sharp enough to find the “catch”, if there is one, buried in the bill somewhere… It’s hard to understand why he would initiate something like this, given his well-known opposition to legalization. What’s the back-story here?

      1. The “catch” is to delay legalization with Congressional “research” when there are more than 25,000 studies about the medical efficacy of marijuana marijuana on PuMrd and countless more on this website. We had the Shaffer Commission tell us marijuana was perfectly safe back in 1970 before the CSAct took effect and we’re back here again?
Nonetheless, keeping my anger aside, a Research “Act” is more than a “commission,” and may involve legislative opportunities with amendments. Lets Trojan Horse this bitch through Congress.

      2. In 1991, the Virginia legislature was weighing a proposal to lower the blood-alcohol level by which one can be presumed to be intoxicated while driving. Senator William E. Fears took to the floor of the senate to denounce the bill, stating:

“It’s going to take all the sport out of drinking and driving.”

        I kid you not.

These are the same yahoos that think they can tell a veteran with PTSD, a cancer victim in the throes of unbearable pain, or the parents of an epileptic child suffering countless seizures per day that they can’t have access to non-psychotropic CBD because, “We all know that medical “marihuana” is just a slippery slope to legalization!”

These people are idiots and don’t deserve to lord over a pack of rats, much less the senate. They’d much prefferred having won the war between the states so as to be able to sit in the shade for generations, sipping their bourbon while hundreds of blacks toiled in the fields under the scorching hot sun on their behalf. They consider themselves to be the Entitled Ones.

Very little has changed in the deep south. Just like the heat, their ignorance shows no sign of letting up. I’m convinced we’ll all be dead from climate change before they decide to do the right thing on cannabis reform.

  3. Cannabis just needs to be completely descheduled. The feds keep dicking around, and have proven themselves to have no real intention of allowing research or legalizing. Prohibitionists like Harris get a rise out of giving us false hope, and then dropping a ton of bricks on us when it falls through each and every time.

  4. Follow the $$$$$$ from the criminal court system to the prison system. Food, to Toilet paper to guns and uniforms, vehicals and stuff to fix stuff.
    Homeland security $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
the new army. some one is making a sht load.
has never been about law and order, its all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$
