Under the newly signed law, the possession of personal use quantities of cannabis by adults will no longer be subject to civil penalties. Furthermore, police may no longer cite the odor of cannabis as justification for engaging in a warrantless search.
Certain government positions would be excluded from the protections under this law.
State regulators have licensed 192 retailers thus far, with the first of those opening for business on Saturday.
Jerry Mitchell was being bugged by some new kid in town to help him find a couple of joints. He turned the fellow down on a couple of occasions, but finally picked up 1/3 of an ounce of homegrown from a local source and sold it to the new kid for $5. It turned out the new kid in town was an undercover agent and Jerry was arrested, convicted and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
City council members in Kansas City, Missouri approved a municipal ordinance repealing all local penalties specific to activities involving the personal possession of marijuana.
State regulators have begun issuing the first of nearly 200 licenses to medical cannabis providers. Licensed dispensaries are expected to be operational in Missouri by this spring.
