Nevada regulators have approved rules to allow for the expedited sales of cannabis to adults.
Members of the Nevada Tax Commission voted 6 to 1 on Monday to license select medical dispensaries to engage in retail sales of non-medical cannabis. Dispensaries in good standing with the state will be able to apply for “early start” licenses on May 15. Those facilities who are approved by state regulators will be able to engage in adult use marijuana sales on July 1.
A majority of voters decided last November in favor of The Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act, a voter-initiated measure regulating the commercial marijuana market. Provisions in the law eliminating criminal penalties regarding the personal possession of personal use quantities of cannabis took effect on January 1, 2017. Separate provisions in the measure regulating the commercial production and sales of cannabis were initially slated to take effect on January 1, 2018.
Regulators decision to expedite marijuana sales is in sharp contrast to the actions of lawmakers in several other states, including Maine and Massachusetts — both of which have taken steps to delay adult use marijuana sales by several months.
Not to belabor the point, but let’s bear in mind that the term “non-medical cannabis” is a political term, with a political meaning, and not a medical term. By which I mean, they’re not referring to hemp here; they mean so-called “recreational” cannabis. But “recreational” cannabis is also medical cannabis. For the patient, what counts is the strain, and the quality, and the purity, and so forth. If the weed turns out to be “recreational” as well, then so much the better! That’s not really a bad thing.
Well, good to hear. But isn’t Session’s state response deadline set for later in July? July 24, or 26 or something? Also, despite politics and elections, isn’t it true that all Sessions really has to do is order Gov. Sandoval, a Republican to repeal legalization and Sandoval might do it, esp. if he is against legalization? At any rate, good work, Nevada. Get those shops open, and make a crackdown even harder, more costly! Who we REALLY need, other than more states, though, is CALIFORNIA shops to open, over 1000K. Good luck shutting us down THEN Mr. Sessions, at least quickly! Great to hear, Nevada! Vegas also will be so much more fun! 😀
Have a friend from Vegas, and also a former college roommate from there, also friends from Cali, Wash. State, and Colorado, lol.
Eat yer heart out Sheldon Adelson! This is much needed timely revenue to keep our momentum going forward! Good work Vegas NORML! I know that drive to Carson City aint easy, but it just got a lot more enjoyable! 😉
It’s good to see other states implementing the will of the voters, unlike the morons in Florida. Oh Florida how you love to screw simple things up.
I’m very proud of Nevada. They where their bread is buttered. They rejected Trumpism and Sessions Do Drugs Do Time Mantra. You deserve this Nevada even though it was a long time coming. Respects to you. If only states had followed your noble example, the US wouldn’t be in the “deplorable” shape that it’s in. Thank you Nevada for turning darkness into light.
